James Gunn Confirms To Direct DC's 'Superman: Legacy'

Los Angeles, March 16 - James Gunn has officially lined up Superman: Legacy as his next directorial project, he confirms on social media. ## Gunn has been writing the upcoming DC superhero movie even before he became the co-head of DC Studios in November. The movie, however, was offered to him to direct years ago but he initially denied it saying "I didn't have a way in that felt unique and fun and emotional that gave Superman the dignity he deserved".## "Then a bit less than a year ago I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman's heritage - how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes", Gunn tweeted.## "So I chose to finally take on writing the script. But I was hesitant to direct, despite the constant pestering by Peter Safran and others to commit (sorry, Peter). Just because I write something doesn’t mean I feel it in my bones, visually and emotionally, enough to spend over two years directing it, especially not something of this magnitude. But, the long and the short of it is, I love this script, and I’m incredibly excited as we begin this journey", he added.## Yes, I’m directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025. My brother Matt told me when he saw the release date he started to cry. I asked him why. He said, “Dude, it’s Dad’s birthday.” I hadn’t realized. pic.twitter.com/ohQNV8nI4g— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) March 15, 2023 ## "Superman: Legacy" will be the first big screen DC movie in the Gunn-Safran era and Warner Bros. has scheduled it for July 11, 2025, release. As per Safran, "the movie focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned".## Gunn, meanwhile, is currently gearing up for the release of his Marvel directorial "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" which is scheduled to release on May 5, 2023.## Stay tuned...

DC Studios Unveils First Five Theatrical Films In The New DC Universe

Los Angeles, February 1 - The DC Universe is getting completely rebooted under the new co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Three months after Warner Bros. Discovery hired Gunn and Safran as Co-Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios, the new studio tapped with overseeing all DC film, TV, animation, and game projects going forward.## James Gunn had promised that the new DC Universe slate would be announced in January 2023, and as it is, the studio finally unveiled its two-chapter plan for the future DCU. The first chapter is named "Gods and Monsters". ## The studio has unveiled 10 projects, including 5 theatrical tentpoles in its first chapter. These projects are different from the already announced or in-production films and shows. The new slate will focus on the already-established DC Characters as well as the new heroes. ## Have a look at the MOVIES which are announced in the chapter - ## Superman: Legacy ## "Superman: Legacy" will mark the start of the DCU but it will not be an origin story of the proverbial Man of Steel. "It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing", Safran said. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned". ## James Gunn is writing the script and he might direct it as well. The movie will open in theaters on 11 July 2025. ## The Authority ## "This is one of my real passion projects", Gunn said. "I've been working really hard on it with the writers and we’re starting to put together the entire story. This is a big movie". "Superman: Legacy" will lead directly into "The Authority", a very different kind of story about superhumans who have a less-than-idealistic approach to saving the world.## "They are basically good-intentioned, but they think that the world is completely broken and the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments—basically, whatever they want to do to make the world better. We’ll see how that journey goes for them", Gunn revealed, adding that the movie is currently being written. ## The Brave and the Bold ## This is the introduction of the DCU's Batman which is different from Robert Pattinson's "The Batman – Part II" with director Matt Reeves. It will feature the extended Bat Family.## "The Brave and the Bold" is the story of Damian Wayne, who's Bruce Wayne's biological son, a fact unknown to Wayne for the first eight to 10 years of Damian's life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. "It's a very strange sort of father-son story about the two of them", Gunn said. ## Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow ## This is based on Tom King's (and Bilquis Evely's) wonderful comic. "Woman of Tomorrow" features Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, who is a very different type of Supergirl. ## "We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life". ## Gunn revealed that "Woman of Tomorrow" will be much harder supergirl than we have been used to thus far. ## Swamp Thing ## This is a film that will investigate the dark origins of Swamp Thing. Gunn said, "bring it up because it’s important to point out that in these stories, although they’re interconnected, they’re not all tonally the same".## "This is a much more horrific film, but we'll still have Swamp Thing interact with the other characters", he added.## Stay tuned...

Henry Cavill And Gal Gadot Cameos Reportedly Scrapped From DC's 'The Flash'

Los Angeles, December 18 - It looks like Warner Bros. is ending its former DC Extended Universe (DCEU) to make way for the new DC Universe being created by DC Studios Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. ## The studio under the new CEOs is taking harsh calls to shape up its DC future for at least the next 8-10 years. James Gunn recently confirmed that Henry Cavill wouldn't be returning as Superman while the reports have also claimed that Warner Bros. has scrapped the 3rd installment of Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman 3". ## Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the cameos of Cavill as Superman and Gadot as Wonder Woman have also been scrapped in the upcoming 2023 superhero movie "The Flash" as the studio chose to not go forward with director Patty Jenkins' version of "Wonder Woman 3". ## It is said that Cavill had already shot his cameo but since he is not returning as Superman in the already announced "Man of Steal 2", his cameo no longer makes sense hence it has been cut in Ezra Millar's "The Flash", which is scheduled to release in June next year.## With Jason Momoa potentially leaving Aquaman behind to play Lobo and Patty Jenkins' version of Wonder Woman 3 no longer moving forward, it seems as though the DC Extended Universe that started with 2013's Man of Steel is coming to a close.## Stay tuned...

Henry Cavill Will Not Be Returning As Superman

Los Angeles, December 15 - Henry Cavill has confirmed that he would not be returning as Superman as Warner Bros. is building the DC universe all over again. ## Warner Bros. is moving forward with the Superman movie with a different actor and that will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life. Cavill recently played a cameo as Superman in "Black Adam" and he himself had announced his comeback as the iconic character, but now, he does not fit in DC's immediate future plans.## The decision to move on from Cavill as Superman was taken by DC Studios' co-chairs and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran who have been hired was Warner Bros. Discovery to shape up DC's future for the next 8-10 years. Cavill explained that his post from earlier in the year declaring that he would return as Superman was made prior to Warners hiring Gunn and Safran.## "I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it's sad news, everyone", the actor posted to social media on Wednesday. "I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that’s life".## "The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes", he added. Cavill went on to say that while his supporters are disappointed the focus should be on the Man of Steel's future. ## "Superman is still around. My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It's been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards".## View this post on Instagram A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill) ## Stay tuned...

James Gunn Gives Massive Update On Henry Cavill's 'Superman' Comeback

Los Angeles, December 11 - The fans of Superman, the iconic DC superhero character, have been on an emotional rollercoaster of epic proportions over the last few weeks. ## It has been five years since Henry Cavill's Superman was last seen on the big screen in a full-fledged role. It was recently when Henry Cavill announced via social media that he would be returning as Kal-El and even made a theater-shaking mid-credits appearance in Dwayne Johnson's "Black Adam". ## The DC Universe, however, is going through a transition period in which the top Warner Bros. Discovery brass is taking some harsh decisions to shape up DC's future for the next 8-10 years. The studio also appointed filmmaker James Gunn as co-head of DC Studio and things are already heating up under his leadership. ## While Cavill announced "Man of Steal 2", earlier this week, reports surfaced that suggested Cavill's highly-anticipated sequel could be on the chopping block alongside a slate of other DC projects. This came as a big shock to the fans and they keep asking Gunn to clear things about the future of Superman. ## It has been alleged that James Gunn does not want Cavill's superman return, however, the filmmaker has himself clarified things and confirmed that Superman is DC's one of biggest priorities. Amid the cancellation rumours, a fan on Twitter asked Gunn "if we're gonna see Superman", to which the filmmaker responded, "Yes of course. Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority".## Yes of course. Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 10, 2022 ## Stay tuned...

James Gunn Responds To 'Wonder Woman 3' Cancellation And Other DC Movies' Changes

Los Angeles, December 9 - Filmmaker James Gunn, the new DC Studios co-head, has responded to the chaotic reports about the cancellation of Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman 3", and other DC movie changes, as far as the future of DC is concerned. ## It was reported yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros., under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, is not moving ahead with the next Wonder Woman movie as the studio was not happy with the script presented by Patty Jenkins. ## Apart from the "Woman Women 3" news, it was also reported that the newly announced Henry Cavill may or may not reprise Superman while the upcoming "Aquaman 2" may be the swan song for Jason Momoa as the studio is not willing to take the franchise forward. ## Responding to the reports, James Gunn took to Twitter and said that "some of it is true, some of it half-true, some of it is not true, and some of it we haven't decided yet whether it's true or not". Gunn and Safran have been appointed to shape up the next 8-10 years of DC studio and the former said that it will take some time to build the franchise. ## As far as "Wonder Woman 3" is concerned, Deadline reports that writer-director Jenkins was given another chance to re-develop the story as the top Warner Bros. motion pictures brass were concerned about character arcs and payoffs, and the threequel emulating similar structural problems ala "Wonder Woman 1984", but Jenkins wasn't ready. The studio, however, still wants Gal Gadot to play Wonder Woman, but it is not yet sure she would do it without Jenkins at the helm.## Gunn continues and said that there will be hard steps taken, and by doing this, they will not able to please everyone. He says "Peter & I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told & in the audience itself & there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming".## "We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives", Gunn says.## The filmmaker goes on to say that all the DC characters and their stories will be given enough time and attention they deserve. "As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer". ## Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning.— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 8, 2022 ## But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities & the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not.— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 8, 2022 ## As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. DC's Most Prestigious Project Is In The Early Development Along With Many Others

Los Angeles, October 17 - Warner Bros. hasn't been able to align its DC projects and give them better treatment despite endless possibilities. One of the popular DC characters who have a huge influence on the audiences, Superman hasn't been able to find a place in the DC universe for more than 5 years. ## The popular superhero role, played by Henry Cavill, was last seen in "Justice League" (not counting Zack Snyder's Justice League) but since then, the studio couldn't find ways to bring back the character despite the rumors. ## It is said that Warner Bros. executive, Walter Hamada was against the idea of bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman, and now, with his exit, things are shaping up nicely at Warner Bros. regarding DC's future projects, and in what could be the turning point of DC future, the studio has greenlit multiple projects, including "Superman" sequel.## According to THR, bringing back Cavill for another Superman movie is at the top of the list for Warner Bros. executives and are reportedly looking for writers for a "Man of Steel" sequel produced by Charles Roven. There have been rumors about the "Superman" sequel, and the studio is finally officially setting it.## Interestingly, Dwayne Johnson, who makes his DC debut with the forthcoming "Black Adam" movie, has been quite vocal about the "Black Adam vs. Superman" movie and believed that it was the main purpose of introducing Black Adam in the DCEU. The Rock has also teased the cameo of Henry Cavill as Superman in Black Adam, which has further boosted the chance of bringing two characters against each other. ## Apart from the "Superman" sequel, Warner Bros. has also reportedly set the "The Flash" sequel and it is said that the scripting has already been written. Apart from that, James Gunn has been working on a secret DC movie while Matt Reeves is already developing a sequel to his "The Batman", which was released earlier in March this year and grossed over $770 million worldwide. "Joker 2" is also in development and is scheduled for October 2024 release while "Wonder Woman 3" with Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins is also in the works.## Stay tuned...

Dwayne Johnson Opens Up On Making A 'Black Adam vs. Superman' Movie In DCEU

Los Angeles, October 11 - Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock clearly doesn't want to play Black Adam who does not fight Superman in the DC Extend Universe (DCEU) on the big screen going ahead.## In a recent interview (via Variety), Johnson was asked if he intends to make a movie where Black Adam fights Superman. "Absolutely. That is the whole point of this, man", he said, "I have been saying for some time, there's a new era in the DC Universe that's about to begin". ## "And what I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It's not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was... you know, Black Adam. Two years ago the world had no idea who he was. We did, but not the rest of the masses out there. What I really meant by, 'This is a new era in the DC Universe', is listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want", he added.## Johnson further said, "I have been listening and I've been wanting to address fans for years", regarding the desire to have Black Adam and Superman fight on the big screen.## "I've been waiting for someone to step up and address the fans and say, 'Hey, we hear you", Johnson added. "So finally, after many months turned into many years, we ended up with what we ended up at. And the whole goal and intention now are to this new era, a new time. Now let’s build-out".## There are rumours that Henry Cavill as Superman will appear in "Black Adam", which is scheduled to release on October 20 in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Warner Bros., however, hasn't released anything regarding Cavill's role so there could be a surprise for the fans or it may turn out just a rumor. ## Stay tuned...

Kevin Smith Recalls Writing Failed 'Superman' Movie For Ben Affleck

os Angeles, Jan 9 (IANS) Filmmaker Kevin Smith spoke in detail about an unsuccessful attempt to get a 'Superman' movie off the ground with Hollywood star Ben Affleck in the title role.## Smith was the inaugural guest on Yahoo Entertainment's 'The Never-Weres' series, reports variety.com. Both men were coming off the success of 'Mallrats' at the time.## Warner Bros. was in development on a new 'Superman' movie titled 'Superman Reborn', but Smith thought the screenplay was "terrible". That's when Smith pitched his own 'Superman' movie based on 'The Death of Superman' comic series. Smith's script went into development with producer Jon Peters, but the two clashed overcasting.## "I was writing it for Affleck," Smith said.## "Ben was heating up. Like he was there. I think he'd been hired for 'Armageddon'. Affleck, he's a f***ing giant, like he's built like a superhero, built like a giant action figure, particularly with the height. And then he puts on the muscles there too. So in my head and heart, it was always Ben and Michael Rooker".## Smith wanted Affleck for Superman and Rooker for the villainous role of Lex Luther, but Peters had a different idea. The Hollywood producer wanted to cast Sean Penn as Superman, as the actor was hot off an Oscar nomination for Best Actor thanks to his role in the 1995 drama 'Dead Man Walking'.## "(Jon Peters) goes, 'Look in (Penn's) eyes in that movie, he's (got) haunted eyes, the eyes of a killer'", Smith said.## "And I was like, 'Dude, it's Superman. You know, that's not how most people think of Superman. But he wanted to reinvent it. He wanted something gritty, graphic, and grown-up. He essentially wanted like what Zack Snyder eventually did (in 'Man of Steel' 'Batman v Superman' and 'Justice League,' which coincidentally featured Affleck as Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Superman)'".## Tim Burton eventually took over the reins of 'Superman Lives' and set Nicolas Cage to star. Affleck would get his superhero shot years later by being cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne in 'Batman v Superman'.## Affleck is reprising the character in Warner Bros' upcoming comic book tentpole 'The Flash', due in theatres on November 4.## Stay tuned...
