Diwali 2022 Sees Underwhelming Result At The Bollywood Box Office

Mumbai, November 3 - The festival of light, Diwali is the biggest occasion for the Hindi film industry and it has always brought joy to the fraternity at the box office. This year, Bollywood has two big films in the form of Ram Setu, and Thank God and both were big enough to bring huge smiles to the faces of the film fraternity. ## Despite the hopes, the Bollywood industry was concerned with the way how things went throughout the year, especially on Holi and Eid festivals and their fear came alive with the underwhelming response to both "Ram Setu" and "Thank God". Despite the mixed to positive talks, both films didn't meet the high expectation. ## "Ram Setu", which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role, was a perfect outing for Diwali 2022 because of its action-adventure genre revolving around Ram Setu, and so was Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra's "Thank God". Both the movies failed to take big openings which made things difficult for them going forward and it looks like both will be wrapped up around 110 crores net, which is underwhelming.## Earlier, Eid 2022 too had lukewarm results with "Heropanti 2" and "Runway 34" as both films could only fetch approx. 60 crores net box office collection while Holi had Akshay Kumar's "Bachchhan Paandey", minting only approx. 51 crores net. On Raksha Bandhan in August, Akshay's "Raksha Bandhan", and Aamir Khan's "Laal Singh Chaddha" were two big releases but could only manage approx. 110 crores net collection. ## The Diwali 2021 saw the release of Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi", which was the first major Bollywood release in nearly 18 months. It was the film that reignited hope and collect approx. 195 crores net collection and was a box office hit.## Stay tuned...

Thank God First Monday Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 31 - The poor run of Thank God continues at the bod office as the early estimate collections suggest approx. 1.65 crores and this is just the 7th day of the run of the film at the box office. Thank God had a poor first extended weekend business of around 29.25cr net box office mark.## The first Monday collections will take the entire box office collections of Thank God to just a little under the 31cr net box office mark depending on the actual first Monday collections. Thank God has to be the worst Diwali performer in a long long time at the box office.## The lifetime business of the film might even fail to cross the 50cr mark. As of today, the final lifetime collections of the film are set to be between 40-45cr net box office mark. The film has faced complete rejection from the audience despite having a Diwali weekend release period but when the content is not good, Holidays won't support the film much.## Stay tuned...

Thank God First Sunday Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 30 - Thank God continues its poor run at the box office despite being released on one of the best weekends of the year. Yesterday the film had shown a growth of around 15% and there was an expectation that the film will see further growth today due to the Sunday holiday but that hasn't happened as the Sunday collections look similar to yesterday.## The early estimate collections suggest approx. 4 crores net which is just a few lakhs better than yesterday. The first Sunday collections will take the total collections of Thank God to around 29.40cr depending on the actual first Sunday collections.## The film has failed to perform at the box office initially with the film failing to touch even 30cr in its first extended weekend of 6 days. There was a cricket match with India that restricted the growth of the film but the film was not going to collect big anyhow due to poor audience feedback.## Stay tuned...

Thank God Fifth Day/First Saturday Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 29 - Thank God which had poor collections on the first four days has shown growth on the first Saturday of its box office run. Although the growth is not much it is better to see growth to show that the film is not outright rejected though Thank God is very close to being a rejected film.## The early estimate collections on the first Saturday suggest approx. 3.75-4 crores net box office collections which is again a poor collection on Saturday as Saturday acts like a partial holiday due to the next day being Sunday. The film has seen a low collection in practically every circuit barring a few where comedy films do well.## The first Saturday collections will take the entire collections of Thank God to a 25.40cr net box office mark depending on the final Saturday collections. The extended weekend is set to be around the 30-32cr mark which the film should reach in the worst case.## Overall Thank God had a disappointing result at the box office considering the Diwali weekend release. The content of the film looked outdated from the trailer itself and audiences today are way smarter than the makers.## Stay tuned...

Thank God Fourth Day/First Friday Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 28 - Thank God which had poor first three days collections at the box office are heading towards another low day at the box office. Thank God recorded 18.25cr net box office collections in the first three days.## The fourth-day early estimates suggest 3.30 crores net box office which is a very low collection for a Diwali weekend film. Although the holidays of Diwali are over some circuits still have holidays like Gujarat and the content of Thank God is what the Gujarat audience like the most which are comedies.## The fourth-day collections will take the entire collections of Thank God to around the 21.50cr mark. There is Saturday and Sunday to come and the film should see some growth to register 40 crores mark in the lifetime run.## Stay tuned...

Thank God Third Day/First Thursday Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 27 - Thank God which had poor collections on the first two days has dropped down further on the third day of its box office run which is not a good sign for the film as the first two days were not even decent considering the Diwali weekend which is the biggest weekend of the year.## The third-day early estimate suggests approx. 4 crores net box office mark which will mean a drop of around 30-33% from yesterday. Despite the first three days being holidays the film failed to register a double-digit mark on any day. ## There is a clash with Ram Setu which is a far bigger film than Thank God Thank God has got enough capacity to collect 18-20cr easily but since the content has failed to entertain the audience, the collections have also failed.## Today's collections will take the entire collections of Thank God to just a little over the 18cr mark. These are low collections no matter if it is an event film or not but a date is an event in itself. Just like Ram Setu even Thank God has performed poorly in the overseas markets.## Stay tuned...

Thank God Second Day/First Wednesday Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 26 - Thank God which had an ordinary first-day collection of 8.10 crores net, has shown a drop on the second day of its release. The film had a slower start compared to the first day and throughout the day it remained behind. ## The film had a very ordinary first-day collection so a drop from there is a shocking thing for the trade and industry in general. Thank God is another case where the content has gone wrong.## The second-day early estimates suggest approx. 6 crores net which is approx 25% than yesterday. The film is shown a similar drop to its opponent Ram Setu. Today's collections will take the first two days of collections of the film to a little over the 14 crores net mark depending on the final second-day collections.## The film stars Ajay Devgn who is one of the most popular stars and has a huge fanbase but from the trailer, the film appeared like an extended cameo role for him. Nonetheless, Thank God has performed poorly at the box office on the first two days and the hope is that it sustains on these levels and doesn't drop further.## Stay tuned...

Ram Setu and Thank God First Day Collections

Mumbai, October 26 - The big Diwali releases "Ram Setu" starring Akshay Kumar, and "Thank God" starring Ajay Devgn and Siddharth Malhotra released yesterday and both films took low openings in the morning despite the advantage of a huge all-India holiday. ## Ram Setu started getting good audience post the morning shows thanks to excellent walk-ins in mass markets. It collected 15.10 crores net box office collections on the first day and emerged as the biggest Akshay Kumar opener of 2022 beating Bachchan Pandey.## Thank God, on the other hand, struggled to get audiences and as a result, the film only managed to collect 8.10 crores net box office collections which is a low number on post-Diwali day. The film has seen a good collection in the same circuits where comedy genre films tend to do well.## Overall both Ram Setu and Thank God failed to beat last year's Diwali release Sooryavanshi which co-incidentally starred Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn. Sooryavanshi collected 26.29cr despite the 50% occupancy rule in Maharashtra and the combined collections of Ram Setu and Thank God are 23.35cr which is almost 3cr less than Sooryavanshi.## The main reason why the combined collections of Ram Setu and Thank God failed to beat Sooryavanshi is the fact that both Ram Setu and Thank God were not event films like Sooryavanshi so there was not much interest among the public to watch the film initially.## Stay tuned...

Thank God Opening Day Early Estimate

Mumbai, October 25 - The other big Diwali release of the day "Thank God" starring Ajay Devgn and Siddharth Malhotra has also been released in theaters today. Unlike Ram Setu, the "Thank God" first trailer was not much appreciated by the audience though it had a hit song and a favorable genre comedy along with the good second trailer. The film had a poor start in the morning much like Ram Setu but Ram Setu started getting the audience after the morning shows which was missing in the case of Thank God. The film is directed by Indra Kumar who remains one of the biggest directors but he has passed his peak way back. ## The early estimates suggest approx. 8.50-9.50 crores net, depending upon mass belts, which is a low number considering the post-Diwali day holiday. But it was expected as these types of nonevent films won't find much audience. Still, the film can put some decent collections in the next couple of days due to the prolonged holidays of Diwali.## Overall it is a decent Diwali for the Industry as both these releases will fall short of last year's Sooryavanshi opening day collections. A minimum of 30cr was expected but it is looking like 23-24cr combined collections on the first day.## Stay tuned...

Ram Setu And Thank God Box Office Clash

Mumbai, October 21 - The Diwali 2022 will witness two huge films starring two of the biggest Bollywood stars of the generation colliding against each other at the box office. "Ram Setu" stars Akshay Kumar as a leading star while "Thank God" stars Ajay Devgn & Siddharth Malhotra. ## The buzz for both films is decent to good. Ram Setu had a good trailer and the first song 'Jai Shree Ram' fits the festive season while Thank God had a decent trailer and a hit song. When the trailer and music are decent then everything depends on the star power of the actors and here both Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn are of similar stature stars.## Ram Setu will have the upper hand in multiplexes due to the subject while Thank God will have the upper hand in smaller town single screens. The booking of both films has started and gone by the early response, Both Ram Setu and Thank God are neck to neck. Akshay Kumar has a bigger pull in circuits like Delhi-UP, East Punjab, and Rajasthan while Ajay Devgn has a better pull in Mumbai mainly due to his popularity in Gujarat. ## The biggest plus of both films is that they are coming on the biggest day of the year for the box office and since Diwali is the biggest festival in India, there will be huge walk-in crowds. In history, many huge blockbusters have been released on Diwali from "Mother India" to "Muqqaddar Ka Sikandar" to "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge" & "Raja Hindustani". But in the last 15 years - Diwali did not witness a huge blockbuster. Yes, there were a couple of huge grosses like "Krrish 3" and "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" but those were not as big grosser as they should be. ## The hope is that both films perform well at the box office and put in strong numbers. The combined opening day collections should cross 30cr at the box office at worst and the weekend should cross 100crs. These numbers are achievable even for a single film but since both Ram Setu and Thank God are nonevent films, the expectations are kept less.## Stay tuned...
