Mumbai, May 1 — The Indian box office is gearing up for a big weekend. Over the last few weeks, Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly, Mohanlal's Thudarum, and Akshay Kumar's Kesari 2 have kept the box office running, but it's been a while since Indian films have collectively delivered a blockbuster weekend. ## Well, the moment trade was waiting for is finally here with Ajay Devgn's Hindi crime thriller Raid 2, Nani's Telugu action thriller HIT 3, and Suriya's Tamil romantic action drama Retro hit the big screen today after scoring superb pre-sales. ## Raid 2, a sequel to 2018's hit film Raid, has been one of the most anticipated Bollywood films of the year and the same was seen in the pre-sales, which is one of the biggest of the year. The positive inside reports and strong franchise value seem to have done the job for the movie, as it is tracking one of the best openings of the year. ## The Telugu film industry has been feeling the heat for the last few weeks no success at the box office. When things were going gloomy, HIT 3 seems to have come as a saviour for the industry. The movie scored excellent advances and is heading towards a big opening at the domestic box office. ## Another big film of the day, Suriya's Retro, is set to deliver a powerful punch. It is an important movie for the actor who last delivered a box office success before the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been a good buzz for the film, which is reflected in the advance booking, which is the highest among today's releases. ## The initial reception to all three aforementioned films seems to be mixed to positive, and this should be enough for them to deliver a big collective extended weekend domestically. Mumbai, April 30 - After the big success of Raid (2018), Bollywood star Ajay Devgn and director Raj Kumar Gupta have reunited for its sequel, which hits the big screen on May 1st. The movie has been censored with a U/A certificate with an approved runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, and is carrying positive buzz. ## Lately, the franchise-based films are doing wonders at the box office, and it seems, Raid 2 is set to be the next in the list. The advance booking of the movie was opened a couple of days ago, and the response has been pleasant, with one of the best for a Bollywood movie of the year. ## As of 8 PM on April 30, Raid 2 has sold around 160K tickets worth approximately 4.35 crores gross for the opening day. The final sales are heading towards 5-5.50 crores gross, and in comparison with one of Ajay Devgn's recent films, Shaitaan, which scored approximately 4.15 crores pre-sales for the opening day. ## Raid 2 will reportedly be released on over 3500+ screens across the country, which is among the biggest of the year. Considering the pre-sales trend and strong franchise value, the film is expected to open in the range of 15-17 crores net, despite the competition with holdovers and new releases. ## Shaitaan, with 4.15 crores pre-sales, took the opening of approximately 14.75 crores net, and Raid 2 will look to open in the same range, with a strong possibility of going higher, especially since the Maharashtra Day/Labour Day holiday in some states on Thursday. The positive word of mouth may further strengthen the opening, which needs to be seen.## If Raid 2 manages to click with the audience positively, then the film will be guaranteed to have a good run at the box office with not much competition, other than with holdovers to some extent, for the next few weeks. Kochi, April 30 - Superstar Mohanlal's drama thriller Thudarum has stunned the trade and has stormed into the 100 crores club at the worldwide box office within a week, becoming one of the fastest Malayalam films ever to do so. ## Directed by Tharun Moorthy, the film has been running riot ever since it was released, despite the not-so-good buzz before the release. In 5 days so far, it grossed approximately 95 crores globally, and at the time of writing this piece, it has entered the 100 crores club. ## The film's 5-day worldwide collection includes a domestic gross of approximately 44 crores, while the overseas total is 51+ crores. It is the 11th Malayalam film of all time and the 4th for Mohanlal to achieve the milestone of 100 crores gross collection. Also, it is the second fastest Mollywood title after Empuraan (2 days) to do so. ## Thudarum is the 13th Indian and the second Malayalam movie of 2025 to hit 100 crores globally. Los Angeles, April 30 - Marvel Studios' much-anticipated Thunderbolts is looking to dominate the box office after flying high with the reviews from critics. The movie is already among the top-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbusters with nearly 90% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. ## According to Deadline, the superhero movie is projected to earn $175 million in its opening weekend at the worldwide box office. Domestically (North America), the film is projected to open with $70 million - $75 million, and likely much more, while overseas, the weekend is aimed at $90 million - $100 million. ## The North America presales for Thunderbolts* stands at $12+ million (per Deadline), which is on pace with another first instalment MCU movie, 2021's Eternals ($71.2 million). The presales figure is also ahead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings ($75.3 million) and behind this year's Captain America: Brave New World ($88.8 million).## Having said that, the reviews for Thunderbolts are among the best in the MCU, and much higher than some of the recent titles, such as Captain America: Brave New World (48% rotten), Eternals (47%) and even The Marvels (62%), and this is expected to boost the film's box office. ## Directed by Jake Schreier, the movie stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in prominent roles.## In the movie, a group of antiheroes are caught in a deadly trap by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and is forced into a dangerous mission that could bring them redemption if they unite as a team. Hyderabad, April 29 - Superstar Jr. NTR's hugely-awaited period action drama film, tentatively titled Dragon with KGF director Prashanth Neel has been confirmed to hit the big screen in June 2026, the makers announced on Tuesday. ## Taking to the social media platform X, NTR Arts announced that the film will be released on June 25, 2026, in multiple languages. The makers will unveil the first look glimpse of Jr. NTR on his 42nd birthday, which is on May 20. ## NTR-Neel film was originally announced for Sankranthi 2026 release, but it has now been moved back to June. Hyderabad, April 28 - Director SS Rajamouli's epic blockbuster Baahubali - The Beginning is returning to the big screen in India and internationally in October 2025, producer Shobu Yarlagadda confirmed on social media on Monday. ## The period action drama, starring superstar Prabhas in the titular role, is often credited as a path-breaking Indian film, which broke the language barrier and emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever. ## Producer Shobu Yarlagadda had earlier hinted about the re-release of the movie, and on Monday, he confirmed the same. Chennai, April 28 - Thalapathy Vijay's classic romantic comedy Sachein has found love upon its re-release at the box office. It has emerged as one of the highest-grossing reissue Tamil titles with around 13 crores gross collection worldwide.## Directed by John Mahendran, the film was re-released on April 18, and since then, it has been doing good business, especially in Tamil Nadu. In 10 days so far, Sachein has grossed approximately 9.50-10 crores in the state, while the worldwide collection is around 13 crores. ## The film, in its original run back in 2005, had minted around 10 crores gross worldwide, and now, the film's repeat run has overtaken it. On Book My Show, the film has sold over 250K tickets so far, which is the second highest for a Tamil re-release title after Vijay's Ghilli. ## Sachein was released amid almost zero buzz but has emerged as a big success for the makers, proving the unparalleled stardom and the crazy box office pull of Thalapathy Vijay. Kochi, April 28 - Superstar Mohanlal's drama thriller Thudarum has stormed the box office with one of the biggest opening weekends ever for a Malayalam movie. The movie is a major surprise box office winner, though the buzz was decent before release. ## Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum in its first 3-day opening weekend has scored approximately 28 crores gross collection at the domestic box office, including over 20 crores gross in the home state, Kerala. Overseas, the movie is estimated to gross around 41.50 crores, for approximately 69.50 crores worldwide opening weekend.## Subject to the official overseas figures, this (68 crores gross) marks Mollywood's second biggest opening weekend, after Mohanlal's recently released Empuraan, which scored a massive 174 crores gross in its 4-day opening weekend. Thudarum has beaten Aadujeevitham's 4-day weekend of 64.85 crores to claim the second spot in the all-time ranking.## Thudarum is certain to enter the 100 crores club, and it is likely to achieve this feat before the first week ends or by the second Friday. Mumbai, April 27 - Superstar Akshay Kumar's historical drama Kesari: Chapter 2 has topped 100 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office on its second Sunday, becoming the second film of the actor of the year to do so.## Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari 2 grossed around 93.50 crores worldwide through the second Saturday (9 days) and on Sunday, the movie is looking to gross over 10 crores, which will take its total to over 100 crores in 10 days.## In India, the film is expected to be around 78 crores gross at the end of the day, while overseas collection will be around 27 crores. The movie was released amid a decent buzz but has surprised with its steady run, both at the domestic and overseas box office. ## Kesari 2 is the second back-to-back film of Akshay to cross 100 crores worldwide, after Sky Force, which was released during the Republic Day weekend and went on to gross around 150 crores to emerge as a decent success. The latest movie, however, is expected to beat Sky Force in the long run. ## Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the sequel is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, centred around C. Mumbai, April 27 - Superstars Aamir Khan and Salman Khan's cult classic Andaz Apna Apna was re-released this weekend. In the first 2 days, the movie has collected a little over 50 lakh net collection, almost the same as the recently re-released Karan Arjun. ## The Rajkumar Santoshi's directorial comedy scored approximately 20 lakh net collection on its first day and around 35 crores net on Saturday, for around 55 lakh collection in the first 2 days. Interestingly, the collection so far is almost identical to the first 2 days' total of the film's original run. ## In recent times, there have been a few re-release titles which performed much better than Andaz Apna Apna, and considering that, the collection of this film is low. The makers did promote the film through social media, but it didn't work in its favour. ## Andaz Apna Apna minted approximately 5.15 crores net during its original run back in 1994, and this collection is unlikely to be matched by the repeat run. Overall, the movie has not gained much help from its cult status, and the original verdict, which was below average, won't change much. ## Stay tuned...
