Vikrant Massey's '12th Fail' Becomes The Top-Rated Indian Movie On IMDb

Mumbai, January 2 - The word-of-mouth sensation of 2023, 12th Fail, written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, has become the top-rated Indian film on IMDb. ## Starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, the biographical drama was an unexpected box office hit of 2023, grossing approx. 67 crores worldwide, following highly positive word of mouth. The film was recently made available on Disney+Hotstar which further helped it to generate nationwide talks. ## As per the latest rankings of IMDb's Top 250 most-rated Indian films, "12th Fail" tops the chart by beating "Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama" which was the top-rated Indian film until last year. 12th Fail Crosses 50 Crores Gross At The Worldwide Box Office

Mumbai, November 22 - Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's biographical drama film 12th Fail has emerged as a sleeper hit at the box office. The film starring Vikrant Massey is continuing with a steady run at the domestic box office. ## At the time of the film's release on October 27, not many people were aware of it but the super positive word of mouth spread like wildfire. It has grossed approximately 49.75 crores at the worldwide box office and as I type this, the movie has crossed the 50 crores mark. ## "12th Fail" was made on a budget of around 20 crores, and crossing 50 crores gross worldwide is a big achievement. In India, the movie has grossed approximately 47.50 crores in 26 days while overseas collection is approximately 2.25 crores. ## The film is based on the 2019 eponymous non-fiction book by Anurag Pathak about the real-life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma who overcame extreme poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer. Vikrant Massey's '12th Fail' Three Weeks Box Office Collection

Mumbai, November 17 - Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra scored a box office success with 12th Fail amid the noise of the big-budget entertainers. The Vikrant Massey-led real-life inspired drama film has crossed 35 crores net mark in three weeks and still going strong. ## The film was released on October 27 amid very low expectations to do wonders at the box office. It, however, managed to take a decent opening of 1.10 crores net and since then, it continued with good momentum after receiving a super positive reception from audiences.## "12th Fail" scored 13 crores net in the first week before commencing the second week on a strong note. It eventually had a bigger second week than the first one with a net collection of 14.11 crores. The first two weeks were an indication of the film's acceptance among the targeted audiences. ## The movie had a competition in the third week in the form of mighty "Tiger 3", starring Salman Khan, but still it managed to do well by scoring over 8.50 crores net. 'Aankh Micholi' First Week and 'Tejas' Two Weeks Box Office Collection Update

Mumbai, November 10 - It was another week when new Bollywood movies failed badly at the box office. Though there were no expectations from the new releases things could have been smooth for theatres before the biggie "Tiger 3" arrived on November 12 to rule the roost. ## In the last week, the family comedy-drama film "Aankh Micholi", starring Abhimanyu Dassani, Mrunal Thakur, and Paresh Rawal, was released and died down the first weekend itself. The movie didn't make much impact at the box office as it scored just approx. 2 crores net in the entire first week.## "Aankh Micholi" was one of the many recent films that got released in theatres for the sake of release. The makers didn't even bother promoting and tried to generate buzz around the film, which sealed its fate. ## Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut's "Tejas" had a horrible second week as it scored only approximately 75 lakh after the poor first week. Rajkumar Hirani Reveals Why Shah Rukh Khan Couldn't Be A Part Of 'Munnabhai MBBS'

Mumbai, December 19 - Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's directorial debut Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. has completed 19 years since its release in 2003. Considered one of the greatest films of all time, the comedy-drama was headlined by Sanjay Dutt with Arshad Warsi playing the supporting role. ## Sanjay Dutt played the role of a lifetime as Murliprasad Sharma aka Munna Bhai, however, he was not the first choice for the role. During a recent interview, director Hirani revealed that it was Anil Kapoor who was his first choice before it was offered to Shah Rukh Khan, and then finally, Sanjay Dutt was picked for it. ## Hirani revealed that it was producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra who suggested him to approach Shah Rukh Khan to play the role of Murli Prasad Sharma. The filmmaker said that being a newcomer, he was not sure whether SRK would do a film with him as King Khan was already an established star in the industry. ## The filmmaker further said that he approached SRK and wished to narrate the story, but since the actor was busy with "Devdas", he asked him to leave the script behind. When SRK read the script he liked it and called Hirani the next day to meet him.## Shah Rukh Khan agreed to do the movie but then a problem arose. Rajkumar Hirani stated, "This was a time when he (SRK) had to fly to London for his neck surgery. Meanwhile, he already had many films lined up like Chalte Chalte (2003), Main Hoon Na (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), etc, and informed me that he'll finish these pending films and only then he can begin work on my film". The producer didn't want to wait for 2-3 years as the songs were ready and other prep work was also completed so they move on from him and roped Sanjay Dutt for the role. ## Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani finally got a chance to work together for the first time in the upcoming comedy-drama film "Dunki". Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to tell the tale of Kashmiri Pandits' exodus for over a decade

Mumbai, April 6 (IANS) Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's "Shikara", set against the backdrop of the Kashmiri Pandit exodus from the Kashmir Valley in 1990, released in February but he has been wanting to tell a story on the incident for long.## "I have wanted to tell the story of Kashmiri Pandits exodus for over a decade. I am glad I could finally bring this untold story of our exile to life with this film," said Chopra, who once had a home in Kashmir.## "Shikara" follows the story of Shiv and Shanti, two Kashmiri Pandits, chronicling their survival through 30 years of exile.## "Through 'Shikara', we aimed at spreading the message that there would be no hope left if all love is lost. It is a tale of resilience and love, in the direst of circumstances.
