Music composer, director, and Singer Wajid Khan from the famous duo of Sajid-Wajid passed away at the early hours of Monday morning (June 1) due to COVID-19. Team India captain Virat Kohli has credited Mahendra Singh Dhoni in becoming the captain of the team by playing an important role. During a live chat session on Instagram with his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, Kohli said that MS Dhoni had a lot of confidence in him that he can do it after him. ## Kohli took over as the full-time Test captain when Dhoni retired from the longest format midway through India's tour of Australia in 2014-15 and later became captain across formats when Dhoni quit his limited-overs post in early 2017.## "I was always inclined towards taking responsibility. After that it was all about just wanting to play, wanting to be in the XI regularly. I didn't play all the games, but I wanted to be discussed, that 'whether this guy is good enough to play or not.' That is a transition that slowly happens," Kohli said.## The Indian captain also revealed that because of his interest in the game, he used to discuss a lot of things with MS Dhoni when he was not captain. Because Dhoni had observed him closely, it helped him become the captain of the side. ## "Then with your interest in the game, you start talking to the captain regularly. I was always in MS's ear, standing next to him, saying, 'We can do this, we can do that.' He would deny a lot of things but he would discuss a lot of things as well. I think he got a lot of confidence that I can do this after him".## "A large portion of me becoming captain was also to do with him observing me for a long period of time. It can't just happen that he goes and the selectors say, 'Okay you become captain.' Obviously the guy who is there takes responsibility and says, 'Okay I think this is the next guy. I will tell you how it is going.' And then slowly that transition is formed. He played a big role in that, and that trust you have to build over six-seven years. It doesn't happen overnight, it's a process," Kohli added.## A lot of credit of team India's success in recent times goes to Virat Kohli who has transformed the team. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated Rohit Sharma for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2020 while Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Deepti Sharma have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. ## The Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had sought invitations for the respective awards with the period of consideration beginning 1st January 2016 to 31st December 2019.## Team India's vice-captain in the limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma has been in stellar form in the white-ball cricket. He was declared ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2019. In the world cup 2019 in England and Wales, Rohit Sharma was the highest run-getter in the tournament with 648 runs in 9 matches. He also became the first player ever to score 5 hundred in a single edition of the world cup. ## Announcing the nominations, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said, "We went through a lot of data and considered various parameters before shortlisting the nominees. Rohit Sharma has set new benchmarks as a batsman and achieved scores people thought were not possible in the shorter formats of the game. We feel he is worthy of getting the prestigious Khel Ratna award for his commitment, conduct, consistency, and his leadership skills."## On the other hand, the nominees of the Arjuna Award, Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Deepti Sharma have been one of the consistent players for Team India. Shikhar Dhawan's recent form hasn't been up to his standard but he has been India's prolific run-scorer in the white-ball cricket over the years. He is the only player in the history of cricket to won two back to back Golden Bats in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, and 2017. ## Ishant Sharma is currently the most experienced player in the Indian test team. He has also been very consistent with his performances with the ball in the last couple of years. He has played 97 tests so far and has taken 297 wickets while in 80 ODIs and 14 T20Is, the 31-year old has grabbed 115 and 8 wickets respectively. ## One of the key players of the Indian women's team, Deepti Sharma has been a top-class all-rounder. The 22-year old young batter also holds the record of the highest individual score by an Indian player in the Women's ODI. ## "Ishant Sharma is the most senior member of the Test squad and his contribution has been vital in the Indian team’s long run as the No. 1 Test side. Fast bowlers are prone to injuries and Ishant has had a fair share of them but he has fought hard to be back on the park every time. Shikhar has been consistently scoring at the top and his performances in the ICC events have been significant. Deepti is a genuine all-rounder and her contribution to the team has been vital, Ganguly said.## Talking about the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, it is the highest sporting honour of India. To clarify the news, Akshay Kumar issued a statement and said that there is no such announcement was made and dismissed rumors of casting for the sequel of their song. ## He tweeted a statement issued by the makers of the song and wrote: "Corona ke samay fake news toh bahot sunni ab fake casting bhi ho rahi hai. Team India captain Virat Kohli remained the only cricketer to be included in the Forbes magazine list of highest-paid 100 athletes in the world in 2020, announced on Friday. He is also the sole Indian to be featured on the list. The right-hand batsman rose to 66th spot from 100th in 2019. ## According to Forbes Kohli had estimated total earnings of $26 million ($24m from endorsements and $2m from salary/winnings). Last year his total earnings were $25 million. He is also the only Indian to feature in Forbes list of highest-paid athletes for the second time in a row.## The Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has topped the 2020 list of highest-paid athletes for the first time. With estimated earnings of $106.3 million over the past 12 months, he becomes the first from his sport to top the chart. The tennis star edged out Portugal's football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from the top spot. In 2019, Federer was at number five. ## Lionel Messi, who topped the list in 2019 has slipped to the third position with the earning of $104 million over the last 12 months. Cristiano Ronaldo is just ahead of Messi with $105 million earnings in the past year. ## American tennis star Naomi Osaka is the highest-paid female athlete in the history of the game with $37.4 million. Hollywood movie Sonic the Hedgehog has been booked for its sequel after Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy have confirmed on Thursday (May 28). According to Variety, the project is still under development stage so no decision has been made yet regarding casting or a production start date.## The sequel of the film will mark the returning of Jeff Fowler to direct the live-action family comedy with Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script while Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara will be producing the film. ## Sonic the Hedgehog is based on the popular video game franchise from Sega. Its first part was released on 14 February of this year. The film tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth.
