Chennai, September 17 - The Tamil film industry has been buzzing with a mutlistarrer, featuring the two icons of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The news about the duo coming together after many decades has been making noise for the last few weeks, especially since they have officially confirmed the mega collab. While the legendary duo have officially confirmed that they are coming together, the uncertainty over the director is still looming large. Interestingly, it was reported that Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has directed both the superstars in Coolie and Vikram, had narrated a two-hero script to them and was supposed to direct the film. But it seems the project is not happening with Lokesh anymore. According to the social media buzz, Lokesh Kanagaraj has backed out of the film, which will now reportedly be directed by some other director. The official confirmation about the same is not revealed yet, and if true, there is no clarity on why the Leo director is not directing it. There have been rumours that Pradeep Ranganathan might direct the film. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth told the media at Chennai airport that the movie will be produced by Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Red Giant Movies, but the director and script have not been finalised, which has hinted but confirmed that Lokesh Kanagaraj is not in the fray. Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan last appeared together in the 1979 fantasy film Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum, following earlier collaborations in Ninaithale Inikkum (1979), Aval Appadithan (1978), and 16 Vayathinile (1977). Directed by Homi Adajania, the working footage from the set of the film has been leaked online, showing Shahid Kapoor in a vibrant red floral shirt paired with denim shorts, exuding a carefree, breezy look. Mumbai, September 17 - On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 75th birthday today, producer Veer Reddy M has announced his biopic, titled Maa Vande. The feature film will be headlined by Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan. Maa Vande, to be directed by Kranthi Kumar CH, will showcase events and milestones from PM Modi ji's personal and political journey, while also highlighting his special bond with his mother, Heeraben. It will be made in multiple Indian languages as well as English. The technical team includes KK Senthil Kumar as the cinematographer, while Sabu Cyril is the production designer, Ravi Basrur as the music composer, Sreekar Prasad as the editor, and King Solomon as the action director. Mumbai, September 17 - Earlier this year, superstar Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani announced their reunion for the biopic of legendary Dadasaheb Phalke. The news created a stir among the fans as the blockbuster duo, who delivered two iconic films in 3 Idiots and PK, came together after more than a decade for their third collaboration. The movie was expected to be a landmark film for both Aamir and Hirani, but cut to a few months later, the much-awaited collab has hit a roadblock. According to the latest report by Bollywood Hungama, the Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic has been put on hold, and the reason is the script. It is said that Aamir Khan heard the script from Hirani and felt that it didn't have enough elements to make for a theatrical watch. The perfectionist wanted Hirani to have a typical approach of mixing laughter with emotion and drama. But the script was devoid of comedy, which raised a doubt in the mind of Aamir, and he requested Raju to rewrite the script and come back. The report further stated that Rajkumar Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi were shocked by Aamir's reaction and are now figuring out what to do next. Mumbai, September 17 - In February 2024, Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani reunited to headline the 4th instalment of the comedy franchise Masti. Milap Zaveri was roped in to direct Mastii 4, replacing Indra Kumar, who directed the first three films of the franchise. Masti 4 has silently been in production, and as per the latest update, the shoot has been completed, with post-production happening at a brisk pace. According to a report by Pinkvilla, the upcoming film is touted to be a story-led comedy, similar to the first Masti film, where the director is opting for the Reverse Masti approach. The comic caper franchise has been built upon the concept of extramarital affairs, and the fourth film will also see both men and women indulging in the same. Meanwhile, the star cast of the film has expanded this time, as the makers have assembled a massive ensemble for the project. The report states that while the lead cast of the film comprises Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, and Aftab Shivdasani, Mastii 4 has a big ensemble of Arshad Warsi, Genelia D Souza, Nargis Fakhri, Tusshar Kapoor, Shaad Randhawa, Elnaaz Norouzi, and Ruhi Singh, among others, in prominent roles. Hyderabad, September 16 - Teja Sajja has been on the rise post the Covid-19 pandemic era with two back-to-back blockbusters in Hanu-Man (2024) and Mirai (2025). He has been one of the most talked-about actors in recent times with his script choices, which have delivered big results for him. After delivering a big blockbuster in Hanuman, many doubted whether Teja Sajja could repeat that, and he proved everyone wrong with Mirai, which scored an excellent opening weekend and is running successfully in cinemas. Hyderabad, September 16 — Telugu cinema's young sensation Teja Sajja has been in some hot form at the box office after delivering two back-to-back big openers in the pan-India space, with Hanuman and his latest outing Mirai. Both films have witnessed excellent worldwide collections during their respective opening weekends. Interestingly, both films have performed neck to neck in the opening weekend in terms of worldwide collection. Directed by Prasanth Varma, Hanuman grossed approximately 72.50 crores worldwide in its opening weekend last year. Out of this,₹47 crores came from the Indian market, with the film performing strongly across Telugu states and making a solid dent in Hindi circuits as well. On the other hand, Mirai has managed to keep the momentum intact for Teja Sajja, recording around 71.50 crores worldwide in just three days. Interestingly, its India gross stands at around 52.50 crores, which is significantly higher than Hanuman's domestic haul. While Hanuman edged ahead globally due to overseas contributions, Mirai has shown a stronger hold in India. The close race between the two films highlights Teja Sajja's growing box office pull and his ability to draw audiences across regions. Though the people may argue over the similarities between the two films, it is hard to look away from the perfect choices the actor has made with these blockbusters. Kochi, September 16 - Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is all set to return as Georgekutty in Drishyam 3, the highly anticipated conclusion to director Jeethu Joseph's cult thriller franchise. The movie was recently announced officially, with the shooting scheduled to take place this month. While fans are eagerly awaiting another gripping and twist-laden thriller, Jeethu Joseph has issued a word of caution. Whenever the audience hears about Drishyam, they start thinking about the twists and turns in the plot, which leave them speechless. But they might have to lower their expectations this time. Addressing speculation about the tone of the new film, Jeethu Joseph revealed (as per India Today) that audiences should not expect Drishyam 3 to be a heavy, mind-bending film like its predecessors. Instead, the narrative will focus more on the evolution of Georgekutty's character after the dramatic events of Drishyam 2. Jeethu explained that this instalment is designed to explore Georgekutty's transformation as a person, his moral dilemmas, and how the weight of past secrets continues to shape his future. The superhero movie continues to set new milestones at the box office, and topping BMS sales is one of them. The fantasy epic has officially become the number one Malayalam film in terms of tickets sold, surpassing some of the biggest industry blockbusters. According to data by Filmy View, Lokah has sold a whopping 4.51 million tickets (and still running strong), edging past superstar Mohanlal's Thudarum, which also recorded 4.51 million tickets but has now settled its run. With this, Lokah has claimed the top spot, rewriting the history books for Malayalam cinema on the platform. Chennai, September 15 - Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's psychological action thriller Madharaasi was released amid decent hype, but it surprised everyone by opening to better-than-expected collection at the worldwide box office. However, things haven't gone as planned since then for the movie. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Madharaasi had a good opening weekend worldwide with approximately 62 crores. At that point, the movie looked like a sure-shot blockbuster, but after the opening weekend, the pace had slowed down, as the movie had been struggling to reach 100 crores globally. In the second weekend, the maiden collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Murugadoss has managed to gross only 10-11 crores worldwide, dropping by a huge over 80% from the first frame. The film's total collection through the second frame (10 days) is around 91 crores gross, including around 67 crores in India. Madharaasi will still be able to cross 100 crores worldwide, but it will take a lot of effort for the film to reach there. A milestone, which looked inevitable at one point, has become a mountain to climb. The early word of mouth suggested a positive reception, but the sharp downward trend has dampened the momentum. Mumbai, September 15 - The all-time biggest Japanese blockbuster Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle started its second phase of international rollout this weekend, and as expected, the film opened to record numbers in almost every territory, including India. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the dark fantasy action film, based on the "Infinity Castle" arc of the 2016–20 manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge, had a record-breaking opening weekend at the Indian box office for a pure animated film, grossing approximately 48.50 crores ($5.50 million) over the 3-day weekend. As reported earlier, it is already the highest-grossing non-Hollywood foreign film in India. In fact, it had already become the biggest grosser with opening day pre-sales only, by beating the likes of Suzume and Jujustu Kaisan 0, which grossed around 10 crores in India. The Infinity Castle is the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time in terms of the local currency. With over ¥69 billion, it has beaten Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train (¥54.5B). In terms of dollars, the Mugen Train is still the number 1 with $508 million, as compared to $468 million of Infinity Castle. The latest blockbuster has grossed $222+ million (¥32.73B) in the home market through the 9th weekend, while North America is the biggest international market for it with $70 million, followed by Korea ($34.7 million) and Taiwan ($24.5 million).
