Mumbai, September 6 – National award-winning filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's much-discussed final instalment in the Files trilogy, The Bengal Files, has taken a moderate start at the Indian box office, badly affected by the intense competition with multiple films. On its opening day, The Bengal Files scored an estimated 1.75 crores net, which is a decent figure but falls short when compared to the good start of its predecessor, The Kashmir Files. Back in 2022, TKF had opened with 3.55 crores net, nearly double the start of Agnihotri's latest offering. The film, which marks the concluding chapter of Agnihotri's socio-political saga, based on dark truths of Indian history, carries significant expectations given the historic run of The Kashmir Files. While the opening is comparatively lower, the real test lies in word-of-mouth and how the collections trend over the weekend. Hyderabad, September 6 – Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who is known for his intense, emotionally charged dramas like blockbusters Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal, has revealed the potential theatrical runtime of his highly-awaited film Spirit starring pan-India superstar Prabhas. In a recent interaction, Vanga hinted that Spirit could be his shortest film to date in terms of runtime. During a talk show called Jayammu Nischayammu Raa on Zee5, SRV was asked about what the theatrical runtime of Spirit would be by host Jagapathi Babu. The blockbuster director, who is teaming up with Prabhas for the first time, revealed that he would make sure that the runtime remains below 3 hours. If this happens, it will probably be his shortest film, even shorter than Shahid Kapoor-fronted Kabir Singh. This is a surprising revelation considering the director's past works, which are known for their extended screen time, layered storytelling, and detailed character arcs. Kabir Singh (2019) was 172 minutes (2 hours and 52 minutes) long, while Vanga's other two movies, Arjun Reddy and Animal, clocked over 3 hours of runtime. Apart from runtime, SRV also revealed that for Spirit, 70% of the music is already done, as he feels that it is easier to shoot a film when the BGM is playing in the background, as we can easily tell when to cut. "During Kabir Singh, I realised that if the RR is done before the shoot begins, then it makes shooting much easier. I didn’t have those privileges during Arjun Reddy, but for Animal, 80% of the RR was done before the shoot itself," he said. The film marks Vanga's first collaboration with Prabhas, who will be seen playing a powerful cop in this high-voltage action drama. Given Prabhas' massive fan base and Vanga's reputation for hard-hitting, controversial storytelling, expectations are sky-high for Spirit, which is being mounted on a massive scale. Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Vanga's Bhadrakali Pictures, Spirit is one of the most anticipated Indian films, promising a blend of action, emotion, and Vanga's signature intensity. Chennai, September 6 – Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited psychological action-drama Madharaasi has taken a good start at the worldwide box office, registering the actor's second-best opening day collections to date. Mumbai, September 5 – National award-winning filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's much-talked-about reality-based political thriller film The Bengal Files, the final chapter in his popular Files Trilogy hits the big screen today, September 5, amid decent expectations. Based on a storyline focused on the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings and the Noakhali riots, depicting the violence and its aftermath as a genocide, The Bengal Files sees a low, but better than expected response in the pre-sales. The film managed to outshine the opening day sales of Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files, which went on to become a huge box office blockbuster. According to the tracked gross, the latest chapter in the filmmaker's controvercial trilogy, has managed to register 1.22 crore in Day 1 bookings (including block seats), thereby surpassing the advance sales of The Kashmir Files, which had clocked 1.13 crore gross back in 2022. This marks an interesting turnaround for Agnihotri, as expectations have been cautious given the sensitive subject and competition at the box office. With controversy around its release adding to the buzz, The Bengal Files has managed to decent advance traction, positioning itself for a better than expected opening day. Released in March 2022, The Kashmir Files was a surprise blockbuster that stunned the industry by recording the opening of over 3.50 crores net (4+ crores gross), followed by phenomenal word-of-mouth, eventually grossing over 300 crore worldwide. It set a high bar for The Bengal Files. Industry trackers note that while The Bengal Files has shown stronger pre-sales than TKF, the ultimate test will lie in audience word-of-mouth once the film hits theatres.
