Here is the list of FIFA Women's World Cup hosts. ## Six countries have been chosen as FIFA Women's World Cup hosts in eight editions of the competition, from the inaugural tournament in 1991 to the tournament played in 2019.## Football's international governing body, FIFA decided to hold the first tournament in China after China had hosted a prototype world championship three years earlier at the 1988 FIFA Women's Invitational Tournament. Mars, Incorporated, sponsored the first Women's World Cup. With FIFA still reluctant to give it its "World Cup" brand, the tournament was officially known as the M&M Cup as the first FIFA World Championship for women's football.## Only China and the United States have hosted the event on more than one occasion. The 2003 edition was originally awarded to China but was moved to the United States in May 2003 due to the SARS outbreak.
