Warner Bros. Pushes Back The Release Dates of 'Aquaman' And 'Shazam' Sequels Again

Los Angeles, August 25 - Warner Bros. Pictures is once again pushing back the release dates of its most-awaited sequels to Aquaman and Shazam! in another major development at the studio within a month. ## Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the highly-anticipated superhero sequel, directed by James Wan, has been pushed to Chrismas 2023 from March 17, 2023. The new release date is exactly one year later than the original release date of "Aquaman 2" in 2022. ## The sequel to a $1+ billion grosser movie will see the return of Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, as well as Patrick Wilson's Orm Marius and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta. It was recently revealed that Ben Affleck's Batman will also return for Aquaman 2.## Meanwhile, Shazam! 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' becomes biggest movie of the year worldwide

Los Angeles, Dec 25 (IANS) Tom Holland-starrer 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' has become the biggest movie of the year worldwide. ## It's set to cross the $1 billion mark on Christmas Day, reports variety.com. ## At 11 days, it would be the second-fastest to hit that milestone (behind 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' at five days and tied with 2018's 'Avengers: Infinity War'). It would also be the first theatrical release of the pandemic to join the billion-dollar club even without China, the largest box-office market in the world. ## 'No Way Home' made $29.3 million domestically on Thursday, bringing its seven-day gross to $385.8 million, the third-highest seven-day gross of all time, the highest seven-day gross in the 'Spider-Man' franchise, and the second-highest seven-day gross ever for December and for a superhero film. ## The Thursday earning is the third-highest Thursday gross of December of all time, and the highest Thursday take for Sony, the 'Spider-Man' franchise and for a superhero film. ## Internationally, it brought in $32.2 million on Thursday, bumping its overseas total to $490.2 million and global haul to $876.0 million. ## 'The Matrix Resurrections', meanwhile, made $6.4 million on Wednesday and $4.1 million on Thursday from 3,552 venues in North America for a two-day total of $10.5 million. Picking up 20 years after 2003's 'The Matrix Revolutions', the sci-fi adventure is expected to finish the holiday weekend with $40 million to $50 million. If it hits the higher end of estimates, 'Resurrections' would beat 'Dune' ($41 million) to become Warner Bros.' top opening of the year. ## Another sequel, 'Sing 2', earned $8.1 million on Wednesday and $7.5 million on Thursday at 3,892 North America locations for a total of $15.6 million. IANS Review: 'The Matrix Resurrections': Astutely mounted yet peculiar (IANS Rating: ***)

There has been an aura of obsession and nostalgia with the Matrix franchise ever since the first film in 1999. Thence we have had two other Matrix films in quick succession, which were released in 2003. ## 'The Matrix Resurrections' is the fourth film of its franchise and is the sequel to its last release, 'The Matrix Revolutions,' which hit theatres nearly 18 years ago. ## This film caters to its fan base, and thus, those who are not initiated into the Matrix universe would find themselves in an alien world, not knowing what is happening on screen. ## With events taking place nearly two decades after 'Revolutions', and unlike its trilogy where the future of humanity was being threatened, this film feels more of a love story within its action drama. ## At the core of the narrative are the resurrected Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), who are hidden within the code and kept on a short leash. This is done to prevent them from getting together and causing another system collapse. ## But when a group of humans from the outside world led by a blue-haired gunslinger named Bugs (Jessica Henwick), discovers that Thomas Anderson, a world-famous video designer working at Deux Machina, is actually the legendary Neo and that he is still alive, they try to break him out of the matrix and seek his help to once again save humanity. ## But Neo, after meeting Trinity by happenstance insists that the group's priority must be to rescue Trinity who, is oblivious of her past and now lives with her three children and a husband. Since she can get out of the Matrix through her own free will, Neo has to remind her of who she once was and the love that they shared. ## The plot is complex, convoluted, and at times amateurish, with an over-explanation of events from the past. Despite its brisk pacing, subtlety is not a strong point in the film. There is footage from the trilogy that appears often also, at one stage, there is a group of creative directors discussing what the Matrix is all about. ## As for the action sequences, the film boasts of chaotic car chases, gunfights, and gravity-defying stunts, but all of them offer nothing extraordinary in terms of experiences. There is an over-abundance and overuse of special effects that, at some point, get irritating. ## The fights are poorly mounted, and with the ridiculous number of cuts, the scenes appear absurdly choppy even if you ignore that, the choreography itself seems languid and sluggish. ## As for the performances, the chemistry between Reeves and Moss is palpable, but not in the same way that one had witnessed in the previous Matrix films. Here their engagement is soft and endearing. ## Priyanka Chopra is confidence personified and striking in a small part, essaying Sati, a role earlier portrayed by Tanveer K. 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Prequel 'Furiosa' Delayed By A Year By Warner Bros.

Mumbai, September 12, 2021: The wait for the prequel of the 2015 Australian post-apocalyptic action film "Mad Max: Fury Road" - "Furiosa" is getting longer than expected. The much-awaited prequel isn't coming to theaters anytime soon as it has been delayed by a year to May 24, 2024, by Warner Bros. ## Touted to be Australia's biggest production ever, the spin-off was originally slated for June 2023 release with George Miller is returning to write and direct the film. The production of "Furiosa" will cost at least $350M AUD into the local economy and is expected to create 850 jobs. The filming is expected to begin next year in New South Wales and it will be produced by George Miller and Doug Mitchell. ## Anya Taylor-Joy, the "The Queen's Gambit" star, will be playing the title role of Imperator Furiosa in the prequel, instead of Charlize Theron who originated this role in "Fury Road". The prequel will also star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in prominent roles.## "Mad Max: Fury Road" is one of the most celebrated films at the Oscars. It got 10 nominations in the Oscars 2016 including Best Picture and Miller as director and went on win 6 Oscars.
