Tokyo 2020: PM Narendra Modi, Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar, Among Others Congratulate PV Sindhu On Becoming 1st Indian Woman To Win Two Olympic Medals

Mumbai, August 1, 2021: It was a memorable evening for India's ace badminton player, Pusarla Venkata Sindhu at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She has become the first Indian woman and second overall to win two individual medals at the Olympics after defeating China's He Bingjiao 21-13, 21-15 in the bronze medal match on Sunday. ## Sindhu had won a silver medal in the Rio Olympics 2016 after losing in the final to Carolina Marin. Sindhu had earlier lost to world no. 1 Tai Tzu Ying in the semi-final match on Saturday. However, in the bronze medal match, she outshined her Chinese counterpart and becomes only the second Indian after Sushil Kumar to win two individual Olympic medals. ## "It makes me feel really happy because I've worked hard for so many years. I had a lot of emotions going through me - should I be happy that I won bronze or sad that I lost the opportunity to play in the final?" the 26-year-old said after the match.## "But overall, I had to close off my emotions for this one match and give it my best, my all, and think about the emotions. I'm really happy and I think I've done really well. It's a proud moment getting a medal for my country", she added. ## On this historical success of Sindhu, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi along with cine and sports stars took to social media and congratulate her - ## We are all elated by the stellar performance by @Pvsindhu1. Yograj Singh Axed From Vivek Agnihotri Directorial 'The Kashmir Files' Over Blasphemous Speech During Farmers Protest

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has dropped Yograj Singh, father of former cricketer Yuvraj Singh, from his upcoming film, 'The Kashmir Files', after the actor's speech during the farmers' protest recently. According to Agnihotri, Yograj Singh lost his job as the fallout of an allegedly hateful speech he gave at the ongoing farmer protests in Delhi-NCR. ## "I had cast Mr. Yograj Singh for my film 'The Kashmir Files' for a very prominent role and I had long chats with him. I knew that he has a history but I ignored as I generally do not mix art and artiste. I keep artiste and politics away. When he gave the speech it was shocking, and I cannot tolerate someone talking about women. It is just not about Hindu women or Muslim women but he spoke so badly about women and on top of that he tried to create a hateful decisive narrative", Agnihotri said in a statement. ## Recently, while giving a speech at the ongoing farmer protests in NCR, Yograj Singh reportedly commented on Hindu women saying "their women were sold for two cents. When their women and daughters were abducted by people like Ahmed Shah Durrani and sold off, it was we Sikhs who saved them. These are the people who have betrayed us. This community has been slaves for thousands of years".## Agnihotri added, "I have sent him an official termination letter I don't care what he replies. I am not a kind of commercial filmmaker. I make films with a purpose. I make films that expose the truth and I don't want this person to become part of the truth. Whatever he said, it was hateful and this kind of people just want to create violence".## Talking about the film 'The Kashmir Files', it narrates the story of Kashmiri Pandit Refugees and based upon the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus carried out by Islamists in the early 1990s. The film was originally announced for August 15, 2020, release but postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic. Now, the first schedule of The Kashmir Files started this week in Mussoorie. It stars Anupam Kher in the lead role. ## "Presenting The Kashmir Files. Next year, same time, on our 73rd Independence anniversary, we will bring you the unreported story of the most tragic and gut-wrenching genocide of Kashmiri Hindus. Please bless our team as it's not an easy story to tell," Agnihotri had tweeted while announcing the movie with the poster. ## Presenting #TheKashmirFiles Next year, same time, on our 73rd Independence anniversary, we will bring you the unreported story of the most tragic and gut-wrenching genocide of Kashmiri Hindus. Yuvraj Singh To Come Out Of Retirement To Play For Punjab!

Former India player, Yuvraj Singh who had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June last year, might be seen in action again in the domestic circuit as the left-hander has confirmed that he wants to help Punjab to win championships at least in the T20 format. ## The flamboyant batsman had worked with the youngsters like Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, and Anmolpreet Singh at the PCA Stadium in Mohali in the last few and had felt that despite not being on the field for a long time, he was hitting the ball pretty well. ## Speaking to Cricbuzz, the 38 years old told, "I enjoyed spending time with these youngsters, and talking to them about various aspects of the game, I realized that they were able to pick up various things that I was telling them. I had to get into the nets to show them a few other elements, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well I was hitting the ball even though I hadn't held a bat for a really long time." ## "I also trained for those two months, and then I started to bat in the off-season camp. I made runs in some of the practice matches. Mr. Puneet Bali, the secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association, approached me after one of the sessions and asked me if I would reconsider coming out of retirement."## "Initially, I wasn't sure that I wanted to take up the offer," Yuvraj admits. "I was done with domestic cricket, though I did want to continue to play in other domestic franchise-based leagues worldwide if I got permission from the BCCI. But I also couldn't ignore Mr. Bali's request. I gave it a lot of thought, for nearly three or four weeks, and it was almost as if I didn't even have to make a conscious decision in the end", he added.## The Player of the Tournament at the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj also confirmed to Cricbuzz that he has sent a mail to the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, seeking their permission to come out of retirement. ## "As things stand now, I will be playing only T20s if I get the nod," Yuvraj observes. "But who knows, let's see."## If Yuvraj gets permission from BCCI, then he obviously will have to give up his willingness to play outside India as BCCI does not grant NOC to the Indian players until they take retirement from all forms of cricket in India. Last year, he had played for Toronto Nationals in the Global T20 in Canada in August, and for Maratha Arabians in the Abu Dhabi T10 League last November. ## Stay tuned...

Irfan Pathan Picks Up Retired XI To Take On Current Team India

Amid the talk about a farewell match for the recently retired Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has come up with an interesting idea. After the retirement of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, many Indian players have retired from the international cricket who didn't receive a proper farewell. ## Irfan Pathan has suggested a 'charity-cum-farewell game' between a team comprising retired Indian cricketers who didn't receive a proper send-off against the current Indian team led by Virat Kohli.## Pathan, who announced his retirement from the cricket earlier this year, has picked up some of India's biggest match-winners who never received a proper send-off. The 35-year old has picked up the following names along with picking himself – Gautam Gambhir (retired in 2018), Virender Sehwag (retired in 2014), Rahul Dravid (retired in 2012), VVS Laxman (retired in 2012), Yuvraj Singh (retired in 2019), MS Dhoni & Suresh Raina (2020), Ajit Agarkar (retired in 2007), Zaheer Khan (retired in 2015), and Pragyan Ojha (retired in 2020). ## He tweeted, "Many people are talking about a farewell game for retired players who didn't get a proper send-off from the game. How about a charity cum farewell game from a team consisting of retired players vs the current Indian team?". ## Many people are talking about a farewell game for retired players who didn't get a proper send-off from the game. However, a senior BCCI official has said that the board is willing to host a farewell match for the former India captain and the two-time world cup winner MS Dhoni. He said that the board will have a word with Dhoni during the IPL regarding his desire to play a farewell game.## Stay tuned...
