Chennai, July 15 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2 topped 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend and has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024, beating Vijay Sethupathi's actioner Maharaja in just three 3 days.## Directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 witnessed a continuous drop over the weekend due to mixed to negative word of mouth, but did enough to cross 100 crores worldwide. In India, the movie grossed an estimated 69+ crores gross and overseas, it minted an estimated 40 crores, for 109+ crores worldwide cume, beating Maharaja (105 crores gross approx.). ## Despite the 100+ crores opening weekend, Indian 2 somehow performed underwhelmingly as it was projected to score 100 crore weekend at the domestic box office alone. The movie's 69 crores domestic collection includes an estimated 35.50+ crores in Tamil Nadu and 17 crores in Telugu states.## Language-wise, the original Tamil version grossed an estimated 48.50+ crores, followed by 16+ crores in Telugu, and 4.50+ crores collection in Hindi. The not-so-encouraging word of mouth did dent the movie's business in all areas.## Indian 2 will need to perform well during the weekdays to emerge a success. Overseas, the movie has grossed an estimated 240 crores for worldwide 910 crores in 17 days.## Kalki 2898 AD will become the 7th highest-grossing Indian film of all time at the worldwide box office after its third Sunday (18th day) collection by beating Secret Superstar (913 crores gross approx.), Animal (915 crores gross approx.), and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (922 crores gross approx.). ## The epic blockbuster is still in the race to become the 7th Indian movie to enter the 1000 crores worldwide gross club but the legs during the weekdays are slowing down which might stop it from achieving this milestone. Chennai, July 14 - Veteran Kamal Haasan's vigilante action thriller Indian 2, directed by S. Shankar, scored the biggest opening of 2024 for a Tamil movie at the domestic and worldwide box office by a long margin. ## The sequel to the 1996 film Indian, Indian 2 grossed an estimated 30.25 crores in India and 26 crores overseas for 56.25 crores worldwide on opening day. It has beaten Dhanush's Captain Miller, which scored approximately 14 crores on its opening day, to become the biggest Tamil opener of the year.## With the opening day collection, Indian 2 became the 6th highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 at the domestic as well as worldwide box office, and with the second-day box office figures, it has become the third biggest grosser after Maharaja (104 crores gross approx.) and Aranmanai 4 (99 crores gross approx.) worldwide. ## Indian 2 stars Kamal Haasan, reprising his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, leading a massive ensemble which also includes Siddharth, S. Mumbai, July 13 - Shraddha Kapoor's horror-comedy Stree 2 is one of the most anticipated Bollywood movies of the year and recently released teaser further boosts the hype ahead of the film's release on August 15 on the occasion of the Independence Day. ## As the release date is getting nearer, the makers are now gearing up for the trailer of the movie. As per the latest reports, the much-awaited trailer of Stree 2 will be launched on July 18, Thursday, 4 weeks before the film's official release.## The trailer of the movie will be attached with the prints of Dharma Productions' Bad Newz, starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk, in theatres from August 19. Mumbai, July 12 - Akshay Kumar's drama film Sarfira takes a low start at the box office with poor occupancy throughout the day. The movie was expected to see some boost due to the positive reviews which don't seem happening as it opens in the range of Selfiee. ## Sarfira, directed by Sudha Kongara, has had pre-sales between Akshay Kumar's previous two low starters, Selfiee and Mission Raniganj which indicated a low start which turns out to be true as it scored an estimated 2.25-2.50 crores net opening day. ## The movie was always going to open in a similar range due to its remake status which has struggled in the post-COVID era, and its subject which doesn't have mass appeal. The initial word of mouth, however, seems to be positive which can come into play over the weekend but it will be hard for it to make up for the very low opening. ## Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 (Hindi) also has a poor start which was expected due to negligible pre-sales. As per the early estimates, the movie is expected to open in the range of 1.25 crores net collection which might vary on either side when the actuals come. ## Indian 2, however, has a much better showing in all versions on its opening day as it is expected to score an estimated 25-26 crores net (30-31 crores gross) collection. The movie has opened on the expected lines with a slightly lower of the optimistic projections. ## In Tamil Nadu, it is expected to gross in the range of 13+ crores, followed by 9-10 crores in Telugu states which is a good collection. The rest of India gross of the movie is estimated to be around 8 crores, including around 4 crores in Karnataka. Hyderabad, July 12 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD has had a good second weekend at the domestic box office, grossing an estimated 152 crores, which brings its total collection to an estimated 646+ crores gross in all versions in 15 days. ## After the original Telugu version leading in the first week, it was the Hindi version of the sci-fi epic which drove the biz in the second week as it grossed an estimated 83+ crores gross (70.50 crores net approx.), pushing the total Hindi collection to approximately 277+ crores gross (233 crores net approx.). ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD is only the 8th movie ever to top 600 crores gross collection in India and it is currently the 7th biggest. It will top Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan (657.50 crores gross approx.) and Ranbir Kapoor's Animal (660 crores gross approx.) by tomorrow (third Saturday) to become 5th biggest grosser in India. ## Overseas, the epic blockbuster has grossed an estimated 235 crores, for worldwide approximately 881+ crores gross after 15 days. Mumbai, July 11 - Akshay Kumar's biographical drama Sarfira, a remake of the Tamil movie Soorarai Pottru, is finally hitting the big screens on July 12 after multiple delays and postponements. The movie is directed by Sudha Kongara who also directed the original movie starring Suriya. ## Sarfira has been the most anticipated new movie for the last couple of weeks, as per the IMDb's real-time popularity but the pre-sales response is telling a completely different story. The advance booking of Sarfira opened a couple of days ago but it has been progressing at a snail's pace and is not going anywhere. ## As of 4 PM on July 11, the pre-sales gross collection of Sarfira is only approximately 32 lakh with 15.6K sold for the opening day. With not much time left for the first show to start, the advance sales of the movie are heading for around 50+ lakh for the opening day which is very low. ## In comparison to the previous movies of Akshay, the pre-sales of Sarfira are trending a little above Selfiee which finished opening day sales at just around 40 lahks, and below Mission Raniganj (76 lakh gross), which are among the lowest for the actor in many years. Sarfira's pre-sales will probably finish somewhere between Selfiee and Mission Raniganj.## Selfiee opened at around 2.50 crores net while Mission Ranigang took the start of 2.80 crores net and a similar sort of opening is expected for Sarfira with a possibility of 3+ crores start depending on word of mouth. However, unlike Selfiee, Sarfira has to face challenges, first with holdover Kalki 2898 AD which is running strongly and second with Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 which is also releasing on July 12. ## Sarfira is not a mass entertainer, plus the original version of the film has widely been watched by the Hindi audience so the areas where a movie can grow are limited. The sci-fi epic has managed to score approximately 70 crores in net collection in week two. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD is among the top 20 films in the biggest second week ever in Hindi and when it comes to South Indian films, the same finished as the 4th biggest second week grosser, behind SS Rajamouli's RRR. ## SS Rajamouli and Prabhas' epic all-time blockbuster, Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion remains the biggest and the only 100+ crores net South Indian second-week grosser in the dubbed version, followed by Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2. Salaar Part 1 is the 5th in the list, making it 3 films of Prabhas in the top 5 biggest second-week scorers. ## Top 5 South Indian Films In Hindi In The Second Week (Net Collection) - ## 1. Los Angeles, July 11 - Kamal Haasan's vigilante action film Indian 2 is set for a good start at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. The pre-sales of the movie have been picking up with just a day to go before the release which is July 12. ## Apart from the domestic pre-sales, Shankar's directorial movie has managed to generate good advance sales for the North American premiere. According to Venky Box Office, the NA premiere pre-sales of Indian 2 is $650K (5.45 crores), including $580K (4.85 crores) in the USA alone after the big jump yesterday.## In the USA, Indian 2 has sold approximately 28K tickets from over 1450 shows at 484 locations for the premiere which is on tomorrow. The movie is heading for an all-time top 5 premiere day for a Tamil title and the biggest for Kamal Haasan and director Shankar. ## Meanwhile, at the Indian box office, Indian 2 has so far scored approximately 10+ crores gross pre-sales (with block seats) in all versions for the opening day. Los Angeles, July 10 - After becoming the first billion-dollar grosser of the year, Pixar's mega-hit Inside Out 2 climbs another milestone as it has become the highest-grossing movie of Pixar Animation Studio at the global box office. ## The sequel to Inside Out (2015) has been a box-office phenomenon since its debut on June 14 and is currently in the 4th week of its run. On its 4th Tuesday, IO2 has outgrossed Incredibles 2 ($1.24 billion) to become the biggest Pixar blockbuster globally. ## After surpassing Incredibles 2, Inside Out 2 has also become the 4th highest-grossing animated movie of all time, behind Frozen 2 ($1.45 billion), The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion), and Frozen ($1.29 billion). IO2 is projected to finish its run with $1.45+ billion, which will make it the biggest animated grosser of all time. ## As said, IO2 became the first billion-dollar grosser since Margot Robbie's Barbie in July 2023. It also scored the biggest opening of the year at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office after crushing the pre-release box office projections with a mighty $294 million worldwide opening weekend.## Inside Out (2015) did unthinkable to beat the projection as the box office hadn't been at its best this year for Hollywood.
