Box Office: Gadar 2 Becomes Sunny Deol's Highest-Grossing Film Domestically

Mumbai, August 12 - Sunny Deol-led period action drama film "Gadar 2 - The Katha Continues" is running riot at the box office and brings the magic of the first movie back. The theaters are once again witnessing housefull boards and at the same time, the capacity issue is also arising.## Directed by Anil Sharma, "Gadar 2" scored gigantic 40.10 crores net collection on the opening day, taking the second biggest opening in Hindi this year. The second day scored a jump of around 7% for 43.08 crores net and with this, it has become the highest-grossing film of Sunny Deol, beating its predecessor in terms of net collection. ## The original movie "Gadar: The Katha Continues" (2001) scored approx. 77 crores net (not adjusting with inflation) collection which has now been surpassed by the sequel after 22 years. However, in terms of footfalls, "Gadar 2" is nowhere near the first movie which scored a mighty 5+ crore footfalls to mint 77 crores net. The sequel reached crossed the first movie with just (still good) approx. 45 lakh admissions (expected, 2 days).## The latest blockbuster is unlikely to generate 5 crore admissions due to high ticket prices but it has become Sunny Deol's biggest-earner movie of his career. It is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Seven Screen Studio. ## The shoot of "Leo" has been wrapped up and the team is now busy with the post-production work. Meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay has already confirmed his next film with director Venkat Prabhu. Tentatively titled "Thalapathy 68", the movie marks the maiden collaboration between Thalapathy and Venkat Prabhu.## Now, as per the latest reports in Tamil media, the makers have roped in Telugu actress Meenakshi Chaudhary to play the female lead opposite Thalapathy Vijay. Mumbai, August 12 - On the occasion of the 20th anniversary, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and superstar Hrithik Roshan re-released their superhit science fiction movie "Koi Mil Gaya" (2003) on August 4 in association with PVR Cinemas. ## The movie had limited re-release across PVR properties in around 30 cities as it was more like celebrating this cult classic rather than aiming for big bucks with a proper second-frame release. In the opening weekend, "Koi Mil Gaya" scored approx. 19 lakh gross in around 225 shows. ## After the opening weekend, the movie was left with a limited chance to score during weekdays as it grossed approx. 10 lakh from Monday to Thursday (August 7 - August 10). Mumbai, August 12 - Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani turning out to be a huge blockbuster at the overseas box office. The movie, directed by Karan Johar and starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, has been on a strong run since its debut on July 28. ## At the end of the second week, the romantic family drama movie crossed the 100 crores mark overseas as total international reached approx. 104 crores ($12.5 million), including approx. $5.3 million (44 crores) in the second week. It dropped just around 23% from the opening frame which is an excellent hold.## North America is leading the international pack for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani with approx. $5.9 million (49 crores), followed by Gulf countries with $2.60 million (21.60 crores), and the United Kingdom with $1.5 million (12.50 crores) in just two weeks. Chennai, August 11 - After the record-breaking opening day, superstar Rajinikanth's action drama "Jailer" has a good hold on its second day at the domestic box office. The movie has a drop of around 45% which is a much better hold than Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" and Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu", released earlier this year.## The early estimates suggest the second-day collection of the movie to 30+ crores gross on its second day/first Friday, including an estimated approx. 17 crores gross in Tamil Nadu. The two days collection of the film is approx. 86 crores domestically, including approx. 40 crores in the home state.## Nelson Dilipkumar's directorial movie should witness a jump tomorrow, Saturday, and with this, it will also cross the 100 crores domestic gross mark. It is in the very good positive to emerge a huge hit with a long Independence Day week ahead and might emerge as the biggest Tamil grosser of the year.## Meanwhile, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi's "Bholaa Shankar" has taken a good start at the box office. Mumbai, August 11 - Akshay Kumar-starrer social comedy-drama film "OMG 2" has taken a decent start at the domestic box office. The major chunk of the opening day business of the movie has come through multiplexes as a large number of non-multiplex chains allotted to "Gadar 2" which is running riot at the box office. ## As per the early estimates, "OMG 2" is looking to score in the range of 9.50 crores net with an outside chance of hitting a double-digit mark depending on how strong smaller centers are. The opening of 9.50 crores net is in the expected lines as the movie didn't have the initial advantage due to "Gadar 2" euphoria.## "OMG 2" took a decent start in the morning and showed a jump in the evening and night shows, thanks to the super positive word of mouth. The movie is now in a better position to score over the Independence Day week than where it was standing before release.## The advance booking of the movie for the second day is much better which shows that word of mouth coming into play. The movie should score a healthy jump tomorrow and Sunday before carrying the momentum till Independence Day. Mumbai, August 10 - Karan Johar's romantic family drama movie "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" scored a very good second week at the domestic box office. The movie dropped just around 35% from the opening week collection, which is an excellent hold.## "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani", starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, minted approx. 48 crores net in the second weekend. This takes the total collection to over 121 crores in two weeks, making it the 4th highest-grossing outright Bollywood movie of the year. ## Overseas, RRKPK has minted approx. 103 crores gross in two weeks, pushing the worldwide collection of the movie to approx. 245 crores gross. It is currently the 3rd highest-grossing outright Bollywood movie of the year, behind only "Pathaan" (1050 crores) and "The Kerala Story" (302 crores). ## RRKPK has enjoyed the perks of free run for two weeks as going forward from now on, it will have two mighty opponents in the form of "Gadar 2" and "OMG 2" which are expected to sweep most of the screens. Chennai, August 10 - Superstar Rajinikanth's action drama "Jailer" opens to record-breaking numbers at the domestic box office. After receiving a fabulous response in the advance sales, the Nelson Dilipkumar's directorial showed very good growth throughout the day, especially in the entire South belt.## The early estimates collection of the movie suggests 50+ crores opening day domestically (official data may vary), by far the biggest start for a Tamil title this year. In Tamil Nadu, the movie scored an estimated 22-23 crores gross, again the biggest in the state for any movie this year. ## Outside the home state, Tamil Nadu, "Jailer" has a record biggest opening of all-time for a Tamil movie in Karnataka state with an estimated 11 crores gross. The record-breaking run continued in Kerala as well where the movie grossed an estimated 5+ crores, the biggest opening for any movie this year in the state.## The Rajini-mania also felt in Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) as early estimates suggest around 10 crores gross in the two states, the biggest for Kollywood this year. Mumbai, August 10 - Back in 2012, Akshay Kumar-headlined social comedy-drama "Oh My God - OMG" which not only won critical acclaim but also emerged as a box office success. Now, a decade later, the superstar is returning with the film's sequel which revolves around sex education in India. ## In the first movie, Akshay plays the role of Lord Krishna, and this time, he is making an appearance as Lord Shiva's messenger while Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam feature in prominent roles along with Arun Govil and Pawan Malhotra.## Being a sequel to a super successful movie there was added pressure on the makers to stay true to its legacy and it seems, director Amit Rai has delivered what it was promised. Hyderabad, August 10 - One of the biggest Telugu hits of 2012, "Businessman" starring Mahesh Babu was re-released in cinemas on August 9, 2023, and shattered all the records at the box office. The movie is directed by blockbuster director Puri Jagannadh and it also stars Kajal Aggarwal and Prakash Raj in prominent roles.## "Businessman" has had a decent re-release which is on par with a low-budget Telugu movie as far as showcasing is concerned. However, the opening of the movie is of the level of some mid-range Telugu movies with a gross collection of approx. 5.25 crores worldwide.## In Telugu states, the movie grossed a huge approx. 4.40 crores which is an all-time record for a re-released film. It has beaten Pawan Kalyan's "Kush" which grossed approx. 3.60 crores in AP/TG earlier this year. Jr. NTR's "Simadari" is in third place with approx. 2.90 crores opening day gross.## In the Nizam area, "Businessman" scored a solid approx. 2.50 crores gross, beating Pawan Kalyan's "Kushi" which minted approx. 1.65 crores gross earlier this year. In Ceeded, the Mahesh Babu-starrer scored approx. 35 lakh, while other regions contributed approx. 1.55 crores gross.## Outside Telugu states, "Businessman" grossed approx. 55 lakh from the rest of the domestic market while its overseas collection is approx. 35 lakh. Worldwide, the opening of the "Businessman" re-release is the second biggest after Pawan Kalyan's "Kushi" which grossed approx. 7.50 crores.## "Businessman" had broken records in the advance booking itself as it recorded approx. 2.40 crores pre-sales. Mumbai, August 10 - In August 2021, Farhan Akhtar announced his directorial comeback after 10 years with an all-female-led road trip movie "Jee Le Zaraa", featuring Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif. ## The shoot of the movie was supposed to commence in 2022 but got delayed as the leading trio was busy with their already-committed projects. Earlier in the year, Farhan Akhtar delighted fans by sharing pictures of him scouting for locations to shoot the movie. ## However, just when things were looking on track, rumors started making rounds on social media regarding the film's lead cast, after it was reported that Priyanka walked out of the project due to date issues. But now, filmmaker Reema Kagti, who is set to produce Jee Le Zaraa along with Zoya Akhtar under the banner Tiger Baby Films, has cleared the air regarding the rumors of casting changes.## During a recent interview with PTI, Kagti confirmed that the Farhan Akhtar directorial will go on floors with the same star cast very soon.
