It was a day of run fest contest at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali that saw three brilliant knocks. First from Shikhar Dhawan who back in form and scored his 16th ODI ton (143 off 115 balls) that helped India to post a formidable total of 358 runs on the board. The target was big but Peter Handscomb played a gem of an innings and scored his maiden ODI ton (117 off 105 balls) before Aston Turner who was playing his only second match, changed the game with a blitzing 84* off 43 balls as Australia chased down the target with 13 balls to spare.##
Many teams would have hoped to win 9 out of 10 times after posting 350+ total on the board but it was just Handscomb and Turner's day that helped Australia to pull off their highest run chase in ODIs.##

- Rohit Sharma during his knock of 95 off 92 balls hit two sixes and becomes the highest six, hitter (218) for India in ODIs. He surpassed MS Dhoni's 217 sixes.##
- Rohit Sharma also becomes the quickest to reach 3000 runs in India (57 innings) and joint fastest by a player in his home country. Amla too took the same number of innings to reach 3000 runs in South Africa. The previous record was held by Virat Kohli who took 63 innings to reach the milestone in India.##
- Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan's 193 runs stand for the opening wicket is the highest stand for India against Australia for the first wicket. The previous record also belongs to them when the pair added 178 in Nagpur in 2013.##
- Shikhar Dhawan scored his highest individual score of 143 in ODIs. His previous best was 137 made against South Africa in World Cup 2015 at MCG.##
- Usman Khawaja (91) and Peter Handscomb's (117) partnership of 192 is the highest by a pair for the third wicket against India in India surpassing 181 between Ken Rutherford and Adam Parore in Baroda in 1994.##
- Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 193 for the opening stand and become the 3rd most joint opening pair to feature in most 100+ partnership in ODIs:##

- This is the first time India have lost two successive ODIs at home in the same series since 2012/13 when they lost to Pakistan. And this is the first time India have lost a match after posting 350+ on the board and also the first time Australia have won a match chasing 350+ target. ##
