Angelina Jolie Calls Her 'Eternals' Character A Troubled Soul

Mumbai, Jan 17 (IANS) Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, who essays the role of Thena in Chloe Zhao's superhero film 'Eternals', describes her character as someone who is not very comfortable during peacetime and this trait emanates from the moral injury of the character.## Due to her special ability to manipulate cosmic energy to augment her life force which grants her virtual invulnerability and immortality, Thena is known for being a social misfit. Commenting on this, Angelina says, "Thena is like a soldier who is affected by the memories of battle and has PTSD or moral injury to living with. Thena just assumes that a fight's coming at her rather than care and kindness".## Talking about the complexities of her character, Angelina says, "So she's quite wired, and a lot of her struggle is just holding on to her mind and her center and her peace. I understand her, and how she feels".## She further adds, "Thena is not comfortable in peacetime. She doesn't know how to exist as a civilian or as a lover or as a friend, but she does know war. Chloe Zhao: For 'Eternals', I Wanted To Blur The Line Between Reality And Fiction

Mumbai, Jan 12 (IANS) The vision of 'Eternals' helmer Chloe Zhao was to blur the lines between reality and fiction in the film, and to achieve this, she used the film's cinematography to her strength.## The cinematography involved shooting at the location with wide-angle lenses.## Elaborating on how the camera was used to explore the world around the Eternals, director Zhao said, "While shooting for 'Eternals', my main focus was to blur the line between reality and fiction. We shot mainly on location. We used wide-angle spherical lenses and deep focus in order to explore the relationship between the characters and the world they live in".## She added, "When you watch Sersi walking through a village in ancient Babylon, it's no different than watching a fern walking through a present-day nomadic camp in 'Nomadland'. The movements of the camera and the wide-angle lenses left the audience with a scope of imagination to explore the world within the frames and to make discoveries themselves".## "The visual experience of this film must feel immersive and interactive enough for audiences to believe that these characters have walked the Earth for 7,000 years. It's not possible to do that on a stage", she concluded.## 'Eternals', which showcases a human side to each aspect of its characters' superpower, is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on January 12 in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.## Stay tuned...

Happy Diwali: Sooryavanshi, Annaatthe, And Eternals Together Bring Over 200 Crores At The India BO During Diwali Weekend

Mumbai, November 8 - For the first time in many many years, the Diwali festival in 2020, went without a single big release for the Indian film industry, all because of the covid-19 pandemic that brought the world to its knees. Things, however, have become much easier a year later, and the film industry is rejoicing like it always used to be. ## The year 2021 can be defined in two phases for the film industry, first, before the second covid wave, and second, after the second wave. The first phase was much bigger than the second one (as of now) in terms of the box office business. During that period, there were some big stars' films as well as mid to low-budget films that surprised with the box office numbers and became one of the biggest box office stories of the year. ## During the first phase, Thalapathy Vijay's Tamil actioner "Master" was the highest-grossing film, and the only Indian film of 2021 so far to cross ₹ 200 crores worldwide. It became a box office blockbuster and generated ₹ 223 crores at the global box office. Superstar Pawan Kalyan's Telugu flick "Vakeel Saab", which is the remake of Amitabh Bachchan-starrer "Pink", was another film to cross ₹ 100 crores at the box office. ## While the aforementioned films featured one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema, films like "Uppena", "Jathi Ratnalu", and "Naandhi", among a couple of others, haven't been led by big names but became box office blockbusters. Combined, the first phase generated a little over ₹ 1000 crores, which is nice as it gave something to cheer to the film industry, but was still far behind from what it used to be in the pre-covid era. ## The second phase has begun on a much bigger promising note and looking way brighter going forward. After the second wave, the Telugu movie "Love Story" starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, became the first superhit grossed nearly ₹ 60 crores worldwide. Sivakarthikeyan's Tamil movie "Doctor" has turned out to be one of the true box office stories and became the first ₹ 100 crores grosser after the second wave. ## However, it was the Diwali festival, that truly set the ball rolling, especially, for the Hindi film industry in form of "Sooryavanshi". With a combined total domestic gross of over ₹ 220 crores during the Diwali weekend (Thu-Sun), the festival of lights is really turning out to be the biggest hope for the film industry. ## Superstar Rajinikanth's long-awaited "Annaatthe" was finally released on November 4 and it set the box office on fire. With over ₹ 96 crore gross in the first 4-days (Thu-Sun), Siva-directed gained the top spot over the weekend, followed by another most-awaited Bollywood biggie "Sooryavanshi", which grossed ₹ 92 crores in just 3-days (Fri-Sun) at the Indian box office. ## "Sooryavanshi" was always looked at as the potential blockbuster and it performed in that way. Director Rohit Shetty and Akshay Kumar waited for more than 18 months to bring this cop-drama to the big screens and their wait literally paid off in the best way possible. It has already become the highest-grossing Bollywood film since the beginning of the pandemic. ## Marvel Studios regains its supremacy at the Indian box office with its latest superhero offering "Eternals". Despite the limited release and tough competition in North and South, Chole Zhao-directed was the third-best film during the Diwali weekend and grossed ₹ 22.2 crores over the weekend (Fri-Sun). Among the other top grosser, Tamil movie "Enemy" nabbed 4th spot with ₹ 16.10 crores in the 4-day weekend (Thu-Sun). ## Talking about Akshay Kumar-fronted "Sooryavanshi", it was the best foot forward by Bollywood to revive the box office business and it has passed this test in flying colors. The success of "Sooryavanshi" has come at a time when Bollywood will be releasing a number of films in the next 6-7 months. The next in the slate is YRF's "Bunty Aur Babli 2" on November 19, followed by John Abraham's "Satyameva Jayate 2" and Salman Khan and Ayush Sharma's "Antim: The Final Truth" on November 25 and 26, respectively. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Eternals Nabs $71 Million In Domestic Debut; Scores Big At The International BO

Los Angeles, November 8 - Marvel is once again winning the battle at the box office despite the negative critics' reviews. The latest superhero offering, "Eternals", debuted with $71 million in the 3-day weekend at the domestic box office, though it fell short of fellow Marvel pics, "Black Widow" ($80.4M), and "Shang-Chi" ($75.4M). ## "Eternals" scored the 4th biggest opening weekend debut during the covid-19 pandemic era, edging "Fast & Furious 9" ($70M), and James Bond "No Time To Die" ($55.2M). "Venom: Let There Be Carnage", which was made by Sony Pictures but based on a Marvel comic creation, remains on the top spot with $90.1 million at the domestic opening weekend. ## Internationally, "Eternals" took the big opening of $90.7 million, bringing its global haul to an impressive $161.7 million. The superhero film is playing in several major markets including South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Mexico, India, and Australia. ## Among the top overseas contributors, South Korea is leading with $14.4 million, followed by the United Kingdom ($7.1M), France ($6.7M), Mexico ($5.7M), and Australia ($5M). In India, the Marvel movie performed very well in the opening weekend, despite the two-way clash with Sooryavanshi and Annaatthe, and nabs estimated a gross total of ₹ 22.2 crores ($2.99M). ## Directed by Oscar winner, Chloe Zhao, "Eternals" is the lowest-rated Marvel film on Rotten Tomatoes with only 48% of reviews marked as positive. Audiences were also lukewarm on what Zhao cooked up, giving the film a so-so "B" CinemaScore, which is also a low point for the MCU. ## "Eternals" could see a steep drop in the box office in its second or third weekend and will heavily depend upon the word of mouth. It boasts an ensemble cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, and Kit Harrington in prominent roles. ## Stay tuned...

Over 7 Lakh Tickets Of Sooryavanshi Sold On Book My Show In Less Than 24 Hours; Annaatthe Sold Over 1 Million Tickets

Mumbai, November 6 - Akshay Kumar-starrer "Sooryavanshi" has created records in many ways, and one of them was recorded on the ticketing site, Book My Show. ## The website officially announced that over 700K tickets of Rohit Shetty-directed were sold in less than 24 hours on November 5, 17 tickets per second, making it the highest ever peak for a Hindi movie on Book My Show. This makes "Annaatthe" the first Indian movie to sell over 1 million tickets on BMS after the second covid-19 wave. ## Marvel Studios', "Eternals", too was in the race and sold over 500K tickets during the said time. The is also the best response to a Hollywood picture in India since the start of the covid-19 pandemic. Box Office: Marvel's Eternals Packs A Solid Punch Amid Sooryavanshi & Annaatthe Mehum At The Indian Box Office

Mumbai, November 6 - Marvel has once again been proved why it is one of the most trustable international brands in India. The latest superhero offering from the studio in its Phase four, "Eternals", which was released on November 5 on the occasion of Diwali, packs a solid punch at the Indian box office with Rs. 8.75 crores gross on the first day, despite the two-way clash with Bollywood's "Sooryavanshi" and Tamil biggie "Annaatthe". ## "Eternals", which is directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao, had a promising advance booking with Rs. 2.48 crores for day 1. The superhero film, however, exceeded the expectations and scored huge at the box office. As compared to the recent Hollywood pic, Sony's "Venom: Let There Be Carnage", "Eternals" witnessed an astonishing growth of 150%. "Venom 2" had earned Rs. 2.95 crore net on day 1. ## Moreover, "Eternals" along with domestic blockbusters - Sooryavanshi and Annaatthe - gave a much-needed boost to the Indian exhibition sector, especially in the Hindi market. Rohit Shetty's "Sooryavanshi", which was held back for more than 18 months, was the top performer on the first day of its release as it created havoc at the box office. With an estimated total of Rs. 30 crores, it proved to be the biggest opening for Bollywood since the beginning of the pandemic. ## Rajinikanth's "Annaatthe", on the other hand, was released a day earlier and grossed Rs. 34.70 crores on its first day. On its second day, the action entertainer grossed approx. Marvel Studios' 'Eternals' Banned In Saudi Arabia, Qatar, And Kuwait Over LGBTQ Issues!

Mumbai, November 5 - Marvel Studios' next superhero offering, "Eternals" won't be released in theaters in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar. While the reason behind the ban has not been revealed, a THR report suggests the decision was likely made over the inclusion of a same-sex couple in the film and the MCU's first gay superhero. ## "Eternals", which was due to release in Gulf on November 11, was asked the make some edits by the local censors, but Disney was not willing to make those edits and decided to pull the film from the said countries. In the United Arab Emirates, however, the film is still listed as among the titles coming soon.## Homosexuality is still officially illegal across the Gulf, and films containing anything related to LGBTQ issues are frequently pulled from release. Last year, the Pixar title Onward was banned across Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia over a single line referencing a lesbian relationship.## In "Eternals", one of the scenes shows the character, Phastos (played by Brian Tyree Henry), and his on-screen husband, Ben (Haaz Sleiman), share a passionate kiss.## Directed by Academy Award-Winning director, Chloé Zhao, Eternals stars an ensemble cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie.
