I Do Not Work On OTT, My Focus Has Been The Big Screen: Mumbai Saga Director Sanjay Gupta

Amid the rise of OTT platforms in India and many filmmakers opted to release their content directly on streaming platforms because of the covid-19 pandemic, director Sanjay Gupta has once again reiterated his love for theaters. Known for his high-octane action films, the filmmaker said he has never thought of making content for OTT and asserted his films are only made for the big screen. ## "I do not work on OTT. I am not even looking at the platform. My focus has been the big screen and on what will appeal to people sitting in a closed environment, on people who make an effort to go to watch the film", he told IANS.## Mumbai Saga, which is directed by Sanjay Gupta, will be hitting theaters this Friday (March 19). The John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer delayed for almost a year due to the pandemic and just like the other films, the speculation of its direct-to-digital release had also started making noise. However, Sanjay was the one who always committed to Mumbai Saga's theatrical release which is happening now. ## For Gupta, shooting "Mumbai Saga" has been quite an adventure for him due to the pandemic as there was a lot of uncertainty out there. ## "This has been an experience unlike any in my entire career. There has been a lot of uncertainty. At one point of time, it was like a life-and-death situation as there were portions to be shot and the pandemic had peaked. We completed shooting the film right in the middle of the peak. We sat on the film for six months after that".## "But somebody had to come forward among the bigger films, so we decided to go ahead and release the film. The advantage that we have over the other biggies is that our budget is not that huge. It is a calculated risk. By coming to the theatres we may not make money, but we will not lose money", he said.## However, he adds that filmmakers like him are making an effort to ensure films get a good theatrical release and making sure that Mumbai Saga gets as many screens as it can. Though he is not sure about the footfalls and has no expectations about how many people will go to theaters to watch the film. The recently released 'Roohi' showing a good trend if not as good as it was a pre-covid era. Sanjay Gupta said that Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer has shown that people are coming to theaters which is a good sign going forward. ## Stay tuned...

Action Is Like Item Song To Me - John Abraham

Bollywood actor, John Abraham is one of the actors who has done more action films, and this joner has become a cakewalk for him. He is now all set to return to the new action avatar with the upcoming gangster drama film, Mumbai Saga that will be hitting theaters on March 19. The actor said that performing action scenes is like doing an item song for him. ## Abraham's movies have always attracted mass audiences because of the high octane action. For me, the action is my dance. It's like an item song to me", said John.## "I think you must do films that relate to the mass audience and not just a few people who are sitting in a fancy theatre. I saw what Manya Surve (his character in Shootout At Wadala) did for me and Sanjay (Gupta). So, these kinds of films are relatable with a large section of the audience", he said while talking to the media at the trailer launch of Mumbai Saga on his slant at doing mass-oriented films. ## When asked about how he manages to bring a different kind of action in every film, the actor said, "It's tough because I feel like my bones are breaking but I try to do different action in different films. This film has raw action. In this film, my character has a conflict with Emraan's character. It's a gangster film and we are showing what has happened in reality".## The trailer of Mumbai Saga was released on Friday (February 26) and it shows how violence ruled Bombay in the 80s and 90s. Have Respect For OTTs But Films In Theatres Will Bring Back The Festivity: Gulshan Grover

It's not that the only audience has been missing the experience of watching movies in theaters, but the people from the film industry also having the same feeling. Veteran actor Gulshan Grover says he has respect for OTT platforms but theatres define the festive experience of watching films, and it is something that has been missing over the past year because of the complete closure of cinemas due to the covid-19 pandemic.## "For almost a year now, we have been watching films and series on OTT in our homes. We have been watching content from across the world. The OTT has its own advantages but we also want to get out there and want to have a real experience of watching a film", said Grover at the trailer launch of the upcoming film Mumbai Saga on Friday in Mumbai.## Talking about the filmmakers who have gone ahead and decided to release their movies in theaters amid the covid-19 protocols, Gulshan Grover added that it is a gusty and brave move by them to accept those protocols in safeguarding the audience while watching movies in theaters. He said that accepting the idea of 50% capacity in theatres (applicable only in Maharasthra, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand) is a big step for financiers, producers, and actors because the numbers are going to be counted.## Read - Mumbai Saga Trailer: John Abraham Aspires To Rule Bombay But To Face Resolute Emraan Hashmi ## "We have respect for OTT platforms. They are here to stay and they will be an integral part of our lives, but when you release a film on OTT there is no festivity, no celebration, no noise. There is no getting together of people, no one calls you and expresses his enthusiasm of watching the film", Grover said.## "The festivity was missing, the publicity was missing, the excitement was missing. So, it all comes back. As for competition among producers, there is no competition at the moment. They all want to get to a theatre somehow or the other. (Industry) People will make way for others and will celebrate the success of other producers", he added.## Talking about Mumbai Saga, the Sanjay Gupta directorial is set in the backdrop of the 80s and 90s. Bollywood Biggies Set To Lock Horns In Inevitable Overcrowed Year

The entertainment industry went through a drastic year in terms of releases with hardly any film getting a theatrical release owing to the complete closure of cinemas due to the covid-19 lockdown. However, as the business has started opening, Bollywood is also gearing up to stand on its feet all over again with release date announcements of many of the most awaited films ready to release since a year. ## However, with many films are due to release, the inevitable box office clashes are bound to happen. In an overcrowded year with many releases, most of the Fridays and holidays will see box office clashes among the Bollywood biggies and some of the Pan India release. But one thing is for sure that the audience is on a treat for some high voltage action, a family drama, a big-screen romance for the entire year starting t from next month. ## Here is a list of Bollywood clashes lined up as of now -## MUMBAI SAGA v/s SANDEEP AUR PINKY FARAAR (March 19)## Sanjay Gupta's new underworld drama "Mumbai Saga" has an ensemble cast comprising John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, Suniel Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Prateik Babbar. Lined up on the same day is Dibakar Banerjee's black comedy-drama "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar", featuring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor. Mumbai Saga definitely has an advantage because of its mass appeal and star power. ## RADHE v/s SATYAMEWA JAYATE 2 (13 May)## One of the biggest clashes of the year is going to happen between Salman Khan's Radhe and John Abraham's Satyamev Jayate 2. Salman Khan fans have been waiting for Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai and the superstar not long ago confirmed its release in the Eid weekend. Both the movies will have a direct clash on May 13.## SHERSHAAH v/s MAJOR (July 2)## Both films are about patriotism and real-life military valour. Sidharth Malhotra plays Param Vir Chakra recipient and Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah, also featuring Kiara Advani. Major is a multilingual project that marks Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu's debut as a producer. The film casts Adivi Sesh as the 2008 Mumbai attacks martyr, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Shershaah, however, will have an upper hand due to star power. ## RADHE SHYAM v/s GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI (July 30)## Alia Bhatt gets an aggressive makeover in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's biographical crime drama Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film is pitted against the romantic drama Radhe Shyam, starring Prabhas and Pooja Hegde. Gangubai Kathiawadi can affect Radhe Shyam's Hindi market, otherwise, Prabhas starrer has a clear-cut advantage of Pan India release. ## LIGER v/s BHOOT POLICE (September 9-10)## South heartthrob, Vijay Deverakonda, and Ananya Pandey's first Pan India film will have to face a tough challenge from Saif Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arjun Kapoor, and Yami Gautam starrer horror-comedy film, Bhoot Police. While Liger will hit theaters on Sep 9, Bhoot Police will be arriving a day later on Sep. 10. ## RRR v/s MAIDAAN (Dussehra weekend)## A clash that can set the Indian box office on fire. Producer Boney Kapoor wasn't pleased with SS Rajamouli when he announced the release date of RRR. Both the movies have Ajay Devgn connection as in Maidaan, he is playing lead and has a cameo in Rajamouli's RRR starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan. Both the movies will be releasing in multiple languages with a gap of TWO days. RRR will release on October 13, whereas, Maidaan will be hitting theaters October 15 worldwide. ## PRITHVIRAJ v/s JERSEY (November 5)## The Diwali weekend looks poised for what could be the most fascinating clash of the year unless one of the films decides to prepone or postpone. An in-form Akshay Kumar takes on Shahid Kapoor, who returns for the first time on the big screen after his 2019 blockbuster, Kabir Singh. The historical drama Prithviraj, starring Akshay with Manushi Chhillar, runs into Shahid's cricket drama Jersey, also starring Mrunal Thakur.## Stay tuned...
