Box Office: Dhanush's Vaathi/Sir Has An Excellent Opening Weekend Worldwide

The movie was released on February 17 and got positive reviews from critics and audiences. It opened to fantastic 11.4 crores gross, before jumping on Saturday for 13.7 crores gross while Sunday witnessed another jump for 14.20 crores gross in Tamil and Telugu languages.

The domestic opening weekend of Vaathi/Sir saw 39.30 crores in both versions, becoming Dhanush's biggest opening weekend collection film. While the Tamil version was expected to perform well, the Telugu version surprised with the excellent collection.

In Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), SIR scored 16.40 crores gross in the first three days which is bigger than most of the recent Telugu films' lifetime collections. In Tamilnadu, Vaathi grossed 17.65 crores in the opening weekend. In Telugu states, the movie has already achieved the break-even target and heading toward a big blockbuster.

Overseas, Vaathi/SIR racks in approx. 11 crores for worldwide opening weekend to over 50 crores gross, which is the highest for Dhanush. Dhanush's last film, Naane Varuvean grossed approx. 36 crores in its lifetime run and now, Vaathi/SIR has crossed that mark in the opening weekend itself and marching towards a big hit.
