Box Office: Dwayne Johnson's 'Black Adam' To Face Theatrical Losses
Los Angeles, December 6 - One of the biggest movie stars in the world, Dwayne Johnson's superhero debut with DC's Black Adam couldn't bring fruitful results at the box office, despite grossing approx. $387 million worldwide.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the superhero movie will end up facing losses of $50 million to $100 million in its theatrical run, according to Variety. Though the box office numbers of "Black Adam" are no less knowing how things have gone post the covid-19 pandemic, it is the budget and marketing cost that proving to be a big hurdle for the movie to turn a profit.



The Warner Bros. film was made on a budget of approx. $195 million, making it one of the costliest movies ever made, while it additionally cost $80 million to $100 million on marketing. The report says that the movie needed to do a business of around $600 million worldwide to break even and turn into a profitable venture for the studio, which is unlikely to happen.



However, according to Warner Bros. sources (via Variety), the movie will break even at $400 million. When the film was commissioned, the break-even was believed to be $450 million, but that figure has dropped given the particularities of the new home entertainment landscape, one in which "Black Adam" has over-performed projections.



Despite all the above figures and projections, "Black Adam" won't be a profitable venture for Warner Bros. which had high hopes for the movie. It might still be enough for "Black Adam" to get greenlit for its sequel.
