Box Office: 'Khaleja' Re-Release Scores Double-Digit Opening Weekend Worldwide
Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, Khaleja was re-released on May 30 amid the huge hype, and it scored the third biggest opening for a South Indian re-release film with approximately 6.75 crores gross. The movie scored good hold on the second day to earn around 2 crore gross, followed by around 1.50 crore gross on Sunday.
Khaleja grossed approximately 10.25 crores in its opening weekend worldwide, including around 9 crores gross in India and 1.25 crores overseas. With this, it has become the first double-digit Telugu and third South India re-release grosser.
The movie was re-released without any special occasion, and yet, it scored an excellent collection worldwide. Apart from being the first double-digit grosser, it also became the first Indian re-release title to gross $100K at the North American box office.
The movie also stars Anushka Shetty as the female lead, alongside Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Shafi, Sunil, Ali, and Subbaraju in supporting roles. The film follows Raju, a taxi driver who is unexpectedly hailed as the prophesied divine saviour of a village suffering from a mysterious disease and must come to terms with his newfound status to protect the villagers.
