Box Office: Sooryavanshi Becomes Second-Highest Opening Day Collection Film For Akshay Kumar

Mumbai, November 6 - For the first time in 18 months, the Bollywood film industry has lightened up, thanks to Rohit Shetty-directed "Sooryavanshi", which opened to a huge Rs. 26.29 crores net.



Interestingly, this Akshay Kumar-fronted was supposed to release in March 2020, before the covid-19 pandemic showed its true colors, and now, after 1 and a half years, it becomes the reason behind Bollywood's first step towards its revival.



The 4th film in Rohit Shetty's cop-drama, "Sooryavanshi" becomes the second-biggest opening day collection film for Akshay Kumar, behind "Mission Mangal" (2019), which earned Rs. 29.16 crores net (+10%), and ahead of third-best "Gold", which debuted with Rs. 25.25 crores (-4.11%).



"Sooryavanshi" also becomes the top opening day grosser, since Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-starrer "War" (2019). The Siddharth Anand-directed opened to the massive Rs. 51.60 crores (Hindi only), and is the highest opening day collection Bollywood film of all time.

Produced by Reliance Entertainment and Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films, "Sooryavanshi" is the continuation of Shetty's cop universe. It also features Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in the extended cameos as Shetty's other two cops - Singham and Simmba, respectively. Katrina Kaif plays the female lead while Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, and Niharica Raizada play the supporting roles.
