Covid fears resurface ahead of 'RRR', 'Radhe Shyam' release

Hyderabad, Dec 27 (IANS) Big-budget Telugu movies readying for release have been surrounded with the fear of postponement amid rising concerns over the Omicron variant.

Earlier in March-April, when it seemed like things were getting back to normal, the second wave of the Covid pandemic wreaked havoc.

With movies postponed, shelved, and even canceled, the Telugu movie industry was badly hit by the pandemic.

With Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, and Shriya Saran in the lead roles, S.S. Rajamouli's upcoming epic 'RRR' is slated for release in a few days and the makers are worried about the increasing Omicron cases, which might be a threat.

Similarly, 'Radhe Shyam' makers are also concerned about the movie release, as a few states are to soon announce only 50 percent occupancy in theatres, which would be one of the biggest factors impacting movie collections.

Several cities have already started implementing night curfews and strict protocols.

Also, multiple theatres in Andhra Pradesh are being raided which has created a problematic environment for moviemakers as well as moviegoers.

Top 5 Highest-Grossing Indian Films At The Overseas Box Office (Without China): Dhurandhar 2 Closes Gap On Jawan's 400 Cr Benchmark

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, March 30 - Director Aditya Dhar's spy action thriller Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is rewriting box office history, both domestically and globally. The film has achieved a massive milestone by surpassing the entire lifetime collection of its predecessor, Dhurandhar, within just 11 days of release. With this feat, it has become the 4th highest-grossing Indian film of all time at the worldwide box office. At the overseas box office, the film has emerged as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever. While the first part had already established a strong overseas presence with 300 crore gross, the sequel has taken things to another level, raking in approximately 342 crore in just 11 days. Despite its lengthy runtime of nearly four hours, audiences across global markets are flocking to cinemas in unprecedented numbers. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In North America, The Revenge has delivered a historic performance by surpassing the long-standing record of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. With close to $23 million in just 11 days, it has become the highest-grossing Indian film in the region. Not only that, but it has also exceeded Baahubali 2's footfall count, that too within two weeks. Led by Ranveer Singh, the film currently ranks as the 4th highest-grossing Indian movie at the overseas box office (excluding China). If the current momentum continues, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is expected to climb to the top spot by its third weekend, potentially becoming the biggest Indian grosser outside India, an extraordinary feat that seemed unimaginable when the first instalment released just months ago. Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge Box Office Havoc: Shatters Overseas Records and Surpasses RRR & KGF 2 to Claim 2nd Spot in All Time Day 2 India Net Collections

Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has unleashed an unprecedented storm at the global box office, solidifying its status as a certified juggernaut within just forty-eight hours of its release. The film is not merely performing; it is rewriting the record books by dominating key international markets and staging a massive comeback in the domestic circuit. After an explosive start, the film's second-day momentum has been described by trade analysts as mind-boggling, particularly in North America and the UK, where ticket sales are reaching levels rarely seen for Indian cinema. This global havoc is a testament to the massive screen count and the immense drawing power of the franchise, which has successfully captured the attention of both the Indian diaspora and local audiences abroad. According to the latest verified data from Comscore , Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has amassed a staggering total of approximately ₹90.81 Crore ($10.9M+) in international territories over its first two days. In the United States alone, the film collected $4,944,541 (₹46.34 Cr), while Canada contributed another $2,000,268 (₹18.75 Cr), bringing the North American total past the $6.9 Million mark. The UK and Australia markets also showed exceptional strength, with collections of £927,577 (₹11.60 Cr) and A$1,485,736 (₹9.80 Cr) respectively. These figures place Dhurandhar 2 among the elite top three all-time overseas openers, nearly matching the early pace of RRR and comfortably outpacing recent blockbusters like Kalki 2898 AD and KGF Chapter 2. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The most significant narrative of the film's box office journey lies in its extraordinary leap in the domestic India Net rankings. On its opening day, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge stood at the fourth position in the all-time list, trailing behind the massive multi-language starts of Pushpa 2: The Rule, RRR, and KGF Chapter 2. However, the Day 2 performance witnessed a historic surge, with the film's cumulative India Net total reaching ₹226.27 Crore. By achieving this figure, Dhurandhar 2 has officially surpassed the two-day totals of Rajamouli's RRR (₹216.70 Cr) and Yash's KGF Chapter 2 (₹206.50 Cr), effectively jumping from the fourth spot to the second spot in the all-time India Net standings. Crucially, the regional dubbed versions of Dhurandhar 2 were delayed and only began their full-scale theatrical run starting today (Saturday). Had these versions been active from the opening show, the film likely would have bridged the gap to challenge the benchmark set by Pushpa 2.The revenge of Dhurandhar 2 on the charts, achieved primarily through its lead version, has sent shockwaves through the industry, signaling that a massive spike is imminent as the regional markets finally join the fray over the weekend. All-Time Top 5 Movies: 2-Day India Net Collection MOVIE NAME 2-DAY INDIA NET COLLECTION Pushpa 2: The Rule ₹ 268.70 Cr Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge ₹ 226.27 Cr RRR ₹ 216.70 Cr KGF: Chapter 2 ₹ 206.50 Cr Kalki 2898 AD ₹ 154.60 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Analyzing the global scenario, Dhurandhar 2's performance is driven by a unique synergy between mass-market appeal in India and a premium-large-format dominance overseas. The film's ability to maintain high occupancy even on its second day—typically a period where non-event films see a sharp decline—highlights the strength of the positive word-of-mouth. In North America, the film is benefiting from a record 4,405 shows, which is allowing it to challenge the single-day records of legendary hits. As the weekend progresses, trade experts suggest that the Saturday and Sunday numbers might push the film even closer to the current all-time leaders, especially as the regional language versions in South India begin to see a predicted spike in footfalls. All-Time Top 5 Movies: 2-Day Overseas Gross Collection MOVIE NAME 2-DAY OVERSEAS COLLECTION Pushpa 2: The Rule ₹ 98.00 Cr Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge ₹ 90.81 Cr RRR ₹ 90.00 Cr Kalki 2898 AD ₹ 85.00 Cr KGF: Chapter 2 ₹ 46.00 Cr The global reception for Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge confirms that it is more than just a domestic success; it is a cultural phenomenon that has successfully bridge the gap between various regional audiences. With its 2-day overseas total surpassing ₹90 Crore, it has narrowly edged out RRR to secure the second spot in that category as well. This dual dominance in both India Net and Overseas Gross makes it one of the most balanced box office performers in the history of Indian cinema. With the Sunday estimates looking even stronger, Dhurandhar 2 can maintain this velocity and eventually challenge the lifetime milestones of the very benchmarks it is currently eclipsing.

As of early January 2026, Dhurandhar has not only become the highest-grossing film of 2025 but has also secured its place in the coveted ₹1000 crore club, a feat achieved by only a handful of Indian films. Its remarkable performance is a testament to its widespread appeal, drawing massive audiences to theaters well into its theatrical run. Here is a look at the updated list of the top 5 highest-grossing Indian films, with their worldwide collections as tracked by industry data portal Sacnilk: Top 5 Highest-Grossing Indian Films (Worldwide)RankTitleWorldwide Gross Collection1Dangal₹ 2070.3 Cr2Baahubali 2: The Conclusion₹ 1788.06 Cr3Pushpa 2: The Rule₹ 1742.1 Cr4RRR₹ 1230 Cr5Dhurandhar₹ 1182.25 Cr(As of Day 30) (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Leading the pack is Aamir Khan's Dangal, which achieved unprecedented success by becoming the only Indian film to cross the monumental ₹2,000 crore mark at the worldwide box office. This historic milestone was overwhelmingly driven by its phenomenal performance in China, where it earned over ₹1,300 crore, becoming one of the highest-grossing foreign films ever in that market. At the time of its release, Dangal also ranked among the top five highest-grossing non-English films globally, cementing its place in cinematic history. Following this was S.S. Rajamouli's epic fantasy, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which fundamentally changed the landscape of Indian cinema. It shattered all existing records by becoming the very first Indian film to gross over ₹1,000 crore worldwide, setting a new and formidable benchmark for success. The film's grandeur and storytelling captivated the nation, popularizing the pan-India film model and remaining the highest-grossing film in India to date. Dominating 2024, Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule was a box office behemoth, becoming one of India's highest-grossing films ever. The film achieved an unprecedented feat by crossing the ₹1,000 crore global mark in under ten days. Its Hindi-dubbed version created history by becoming the first to cross the ₹800 crore net mark, proving its immense pan-India appeal. The release of a special Reloaded Version with extra footage further boosted its collections, cementing its place among Indian cinema's all-time greats. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Another masterpiece from S.S. Rajamouli, RRR, also became a global phenomenon. It set an all-time record for the highest opening day for an Indian film, grossing ₹223 crores worldwide. The film went on to cross the ₹1,000 crore mark and achieved massive success in international markets, particularly in Japan, where it became the highest-grossing Indian film ever. Its cultural impact was solidified when the song Naatu Naatu won an Academy Award, a historic first for an Indian feature film. The latest film to join this illustrious list, Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has been a box office juggernaut. The spy action thriller captivated audiences from day one, setting new benchmarks for success. It created history by becoming the first film in Indian cinema to score double-digit net collections (₹10 crore or more) for an unprecedented 29 consecutive days, showcasing its remarkable consistency and audience reception. The film's appeal was not limited to domestic shores; it made a significant impact internationally, breaking into the top 10 at the North American box office during its opening weekend. This rare achievement for an Indian film, combined with its sustained high theater occupancy, has cemented Dhurandhar's entry into the top 5 and highlighted the continued evolution and commercial power of the Indian film industry.

Top 10 Biggest South Indian Opening Day Grossers At The Hindi Box Office: Pushpa 2 Rules As Kantara Chapter 1 Takes 8th Spot

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, October 3 - South Indian cinema continues to make a mark at the Hindi box office, and the latest to enter the race is Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, which has taken a good start in the dubbed version, scoring 18.50 crore opening day. Among the top 10 biggest South Indian openers at the Hindi box office, Kantara 2 has secured the 8th spot. At the very top of the list is Allu Arjun's Pan India phenomenon, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which rewrote box office history with a mammoth 70 crore opening day in Hindi, which is a record. This number is far ahead of every other South release and firmly establishes Pushpa 2 as a true pan-India monster. Kannada superstar Yash's KGF Chapter 2 follows next with 54 crore net opening, a record that held strong until Pushpa 2 arrived. SS Rajamouli's epic blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion sits at number 3 with 41 crores net. It is worth noting that it was the Baahubali franchise, which originally opened the floodgates for South dominance in Hindi belts. Prabhas, easily the biggest South Indian star in the Hindi market, makes multiple entries in the top 10, with Saaho making it to the top 5, followed by his Kalki 2898 AD. Rajamouli's RRR, along with superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi extravaganza 2.0, also entered the list with solid openings. Breaking into this power-packed list at No. 8, Kantara Chapter 1, which is the second Kannada movie in this coveted list. Unlike mass-heavy commercial entertainers like KGF or Pushpa, Kantara thrives on its unique storytelling, cultural rootedness, and mysticism, yet still managed to draw audiences in large numbers on day one. Prabhas' Salaar Part 1 - Ceasefire, followed by Ram Charan's Game Changer, and Jr. NTR's Devara Part 1, take the remaining spots in the list. The last two are the only films with less than 10 crores net openings in the list in the Hindi version. Top Films With 100 Crore Openings At The Indian Box Office: Prabhas Dominates With Five Films

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, September 26 - The Indian box office has seen several historic milestones over the last few years, but only a few films have managed to cross the coveted 100 crore mark on the first day in the domestic market. Dominated by Telugu origin films, the elite club is reserved for the biggest spectacles that not only ride on star power but also on unprecedented hype, massive release scales, and pan-India appeal. At the very top of the list is Pan India superstar Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which stormed into cinemas with an earth-shattering 209 crore opening in India — the biggest single-day haul ever recorded in the country. Close on its heels are director SS Rajamouli's blockbusters RRR and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which grossed 156 crore and 153 crore respectively, setting benchmarks that seemed unbeatable at the time. Yash's KGF Chapter 2 followed with 134.50 crore, while Prabhas made his mark again with Kalki 2898 AD at 116 crore, Salaar at 107.10 crore, Saaho at 105 crore and Adipurush at 102.50 crore gross. The latest film in this prestigious club is Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG, which is estimated to gross over 100 crores in India. What's remarkable is that, except for one film, every single one of these 100 crore openers comes from South Indian cinema. The Telugu industry, in particular, has redefined the meaning of a "mass opening" in Indian cinema. Backed by visionary filmmakers like Rajamouli, Sukumar, Nag Ashwin, and Prashanth Neel, and powered by stars such as Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Yash, these films have created a cultural and commercial wave that Bollywood has yet to match. Today, breaching the 100 crore mark on opening day in India has become the ultimate benchmark for any big-ticket release. With upcoming projects from the same powerhouses — be it sequels, mythological spectacles, or high-octane action dramas — the club is only expected to expand further. As Indian cinema continues to scale new heights, these films remain towering examples of how a perfect mix of scale, vision, and star power can turn a release into a nationwide festival. Chennai, August 29 - Superstar Rajinikanth led his gangster action drama Coolie crawl past the 500 crores mark at the worldwide box office, making it only the 4th Tamil film ever to achieve the milestone. The movie had to battle its way to reach the coveted box office mark, despite the record start. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie joins Rajinikanth's own blockbusters - 2 Point 0 and Jailer, along with Thalapathy Vijay's Leo - to emerge as the 4th Tamil title to make its way into the 500 crores club globally. 2 Point 0 remains the biggest grosser with around 700 crores, as Coolie set to finish at 4, behind Jailer (605 crores), and Leo (606 crores). While Coolie brings in the lures for Tamil cinema, it also expands the South Indian cinema's 500 crores club grossers list to 11. With Coolie, Director Lokesh Kanagaraj Joins the Elite 400-Crore League Alongside SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani

BY SACNILK

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj teamed with superstar Rajinikanth for the first time for a gangster action drama film Coolie, which had a record-breaking opening weekend ever, after the record opening day, for a Tamil title. The movie entered the 400 crores club at the worldwide box office on its 5th day, and led the director to an elite club. ## With Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially entered the elite club of Indian filmmakers who have delivered three consecutive 400+ crore worldwide grossers, standing tall alongside legends like SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani. Arguably the most bankable director of Tamil cinema currently, Lokesh keeps winning at the box office. ## The filmmaker began this extraordinary streak with Vikram (2022), a Kamal Haasan starrer that revived the superstar's box office dominance and grossed over 400 crore worldwide. He followed it up with Leo (2023), featuring Thalapathy Vijay, which, despite polarised reviews, went on to collect over 600 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. Now with Coolie (2024), Lokesh has achieved the rare hat-trick, making him the only Tamil filmmaker to do so. ## This puts him in the same league as SS Rajamouli, who delivered path-breaking blockbusters like Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, and RRR, each setting new benchmarks not just in India but across the world, where his last two films went on to gross over 1000 crores worldwide. Similarly, Bollywood's titan Rajkumar Hirani struck gold with 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and Dunku, all surpassing the 400-crore milestone. ## For Lokesh, achieving the feat of delivering 3 consecutive 400 crores grossers in the relatively smaller Tamil market makes the accomplishment even more remarkable. His rise reflects the growing stature of Tamil cinema, even though it is yet to fully explore some of the key markets, including the Hindi belt. With his streak of consecutive blockbusters, he has proven that strong storytelling combined with star power and scale can deliver massive results. ## As he continues to shape the blockbuster Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), along with standalone films with some of India's biggest stars, the young filmmaker is now firmly established as one of the most powerful voices in Indian cinema today. Lokesh's next films promise bigger results with LCU's Kaithi 2, Rolex, and Vikram 2, and a standalone film with Aamir Khan in the pipeline. ## Stay tuned...

Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers At The Worldwide Box Office: Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG Takes 8th Spot

BY SACNILK

Chennai, September 27 - In the opening day box office battle, superstar Pawan Kalyan has officially entered the all-time top 10 list with his latest blockbuster They Call Him OG, directed by Sujeeth. Released on September 25, the gangster action drama stormed the global box office with one of the biggest openings for an Indian film, cementing Power Star's dominance even in the era of pan-India cinema. The race for the biggest Indian opener has grown fierce over the years. It all began with SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which not only redefined Indian box office history but also became the first Indian film to cross 100 crore and 200 crore worldwide on day one. The director later broke his own record with RRR (2022), which took global openings to another level. In 2024, Indian cinema scaled unprecedented heights when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 – The Rule shook the industry with a 275 crore worldwide opening, almost touching the (still) unthinkable 300 crore mark. While OG didn't break into the top five, it still paved its path to history, delivering the biggest-ever opening for PK and ranking among the Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers of All Time.
