100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box Office: Blockbuster Su From So Joins Yash's KGF 2 and Four Others

Bengaluru, August 17 - Kannada cinema has delivered yet another remarkable milestone at the worldwide box office. Actor-producer Raj B. Shetty's comedy-drama Su From So has emerged as a surprise 100 crore blockbuster, joining an exclusive list of just a handful of Kannada films that have crossed the century mark in global collections. ## Kannada industry, despite the potential, has been the least successful South Indian film industry in terms of delivering 100 crore movies. And when a film achieves this mark, it becomes a monumental feat worthy of huge celebrations, unlike other industries, where 100 crores becomes the norm. ## The success of Su From So comes at a time when Kannada cinema was going through a relatively dull phase in 2024, with failure after failure. Released on July 25, the film steadily grew with strong word of mouth, eventually storming past the coveted figure. It is the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year by a long margin. ## Su From So is only the sixth Kannada film ever to achieve the milestone of 100 crores gross worldwide. This is the first 100 crores Kannada grosser since Rishab Shetty's mega blockbuster Kantara Chapter 1, which was released in September 2022. Have a look at the complete list of 100 crores Kannada grossers - ## KGF: Chapter 2 (1215 crore) - Yash's magnum opus, directed by Prashanth Neel, remains the biggest ever Kannada film and one of the highest-grossing Indian films in history. It is the only Kannada and one of only eight Indian films to breach the milestone of 1000 crores worldwide. ## Kantara (408 crore) - Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the divine folklore action-drama shocked trade analysts by becoming a cultural and commercial phenomenon worldwide, and is currently the second biggest Kannada grosser of all-time. ## KGF: Chapter 1 (237.75 crore) - It was the first Kannada movie to breach the 100 crores milestone worldwide. The film that started the KGF storm, turning Yash into a pan-India superstar and proving Kannada cinema's global potential. ## 100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box OfficeRankFilm TitleTotal Worldwide GBOCRelease Year1.KGF: Chapter 2₹ 1215.00 Cr20222.Kantara₹ 408.00 Cr Cr20223.KGF: Chapter 1₹ 237.75 Cr20184.777 Charlie₹ 102.75 Cr20225.Vikrant Rona₹ 100+ Cr20226.Su From So₹ 100+ Cr2025## Note: Overseas collection of 777 Charlie and Vikrant Rona might be underreported as data are not available ## 777 Charlie (102.75 crore) - The heartwarming dog adventure drama, fronted by Rakshit Shetty, connected with families and animal lovers, pushing it past the century mark. It is hailed as one of the finest films of Kannada cinema in recent times. ## Vikrant Rona (100+ crore) - Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep's fantasy action entertainer, with its stylish visuals and grand scale, managed to go past 100 crores worldwide. It was one of the most hyped Kannada movies, but the film somewhat underperformed. ## Su From So (100+ crore) - The latest entrant, Raj B. Shetty's unique blend of comedy and drama, has found massive love from audiences, bringing Kannada cinema back into the spotlight. ## Even though the success count of Kannada cinema has largely been underwhelming, it now proudly has six worldwide 100 crore grossers, a feat that only a few years ago seemed far-fetched. The trend shows that while mega spectacles like KGF and Kantara set records, even smaller-budget, content-driven films like Su From So can emerge victorious at the box office if backed by strong storytelling and word of mouth. ## As the industry looks ahead, there are a few films, including Yash's Toxic and Rishab Shetty's Kantara 2, in the making, which are sure to find their place in the biggest Kannada grossers. The industry, however, will hope that more and more tentpole films are put under production to increase the success count. ##

Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers At The Worldwide Box Office: Rajinikanth's Coolie Takes 7th Spot

Chennai, August 16 - In the opening day box office battle, superstar Rajinikanth has officially entered the all-time top 10 list with his latest blockbuster Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Released on August 14, the gangster action drama stormed the global box office with a record-breaking opening for a Tamil film, cementing Thalaivar's dominance even in the era of pan-India cinema. ## The race for the biggest Indian opener has grown fierce over the years. It all began with SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which not only redefined Indian box office history but also became the first Indian film to cross 100 crore and 200 crore worldwide on day one. The director later broke his own record with RRR (2022), which took global openings to another level. ## In 2024, Indian cinema scaled unprecedented heights when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 – The Rule shook the industry with a 275 crore worldwide opening, almost touching the (still) unthinkable 300 crore mark. While Coolie didn't break into the top five, it still paved its path to history, delivering the biggest-ever Tamil cinema opening and ranking among the Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers of All Time. The Tamil cinema too is making long strides with 2 films in the list, while Hindi and Kannada cinema have 1 film each among the top openers. ## Looking ahead, the list may undergo a major shakeup with several upcoming juggernauts in the making. From Prabhas' Spirit, Fauji, The Raja Saab, Salaar 2, and Kalki 2 to Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana, Animal Park, and Dhoom 4, Shah Rukh Khan's King, Allu Arjun's AA22, SS Rajamouli's Gen63 (with Mahesh Babu), Yash's Toxic, Jr. NTR's Dragon, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, and Vijay's Jana Nayagan, all these films carry the potential to rewrite box office history yet again. ## Stay tuned...

Surprise Sleeper Hits of 2025: Low To Mid-Budget Films That Conquered the Indian Box Office

Mumbai, August 7 - The year 2025 has been full of surprises at the Indian box office, and there are still five months left. Amid the frenzy of big-budget spectacles in 2025, a group of low to mid budget budget films stunned everyone by not only becoming critical successes but also box office winners. These films, spanning multiple languages and genres, didn't have the advantage of huge star power or massive marketing campaigns. Instead, they relied on storytelling, originality, and strong word-of-mouth to win hearts. ## Saiyaara (Hindi – Romantic Drama) - No one expected a debutant-led love story to become the biggest romantic hit in years, but Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda's chemistry, Mohit Suri's direction, and Mithoon's soulful music turned Saiyaara into a cultural phenomenon. Made on a budget of around 60 crores, the movie started strongly and exploded eventually as the week progressed, becoming the first Hindi romantic film to cross 300 crores net. ## Mahavatar Narsimha (Hindi – Animated Devotional Action Drama) - An animated retelling of the Narsimha avatar from the Puranas, Mahavatar Narsimha emerged as a surprise family favourite. Released with little hype and almost zero expectations, it tapped into the growing demand for Indian devotional content. Made on a budget of around 5-10 crores, the film's strong visuals and devotional storytelling led it to cross the 100 crore mark in just 10 days, making it the first Indian animated movie to achieve the feat. ## Dragon (Tamil – Coming-of-age Comedy Drama) - Starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Dragon is the biggest Tamil blockbuster of the year. It is a story about a college dropout who deceptively secures a high-paying job, but is forced to accept a major challenge to avoid being exposed. Made on a budget of around 20 crores, the movie went on to gross around 120 crores in India, as one of the highest-grossing Tamil titles of the year. ## Tourist Family (Tamil – Comedy Drama) - It is being hailed as one of the most heartwarming stories of the year. The story follows a Sri Lankan Tamil family who, following the Sri Lankan economic crisis, arrive in India in search of a better future. It was made on a budget of around 5 crores, and went on to gross over 70 crores in India, and became a big blockbuster. ## Here's a Look at The Top Sleeper Hits of 2025 That Conquered The Indian Box OfficeMovie TitleOriginal LanguageBudgetIndia GBOCVerdictSaiyaaraHindi₹ 60.00 Cr₹ 425 Cr* expectedSuper BlockbusterMahavatar NarsimhaHindi₹ 10.00 Cr₹ 200+ CrBlockbuster Dragon Tamil₹ 20.00 Cr₹ 119.00 CrBlockbusterTourist FamilyTamil₹ 5.00 Cr₹ 71.75 CrBlockbusterSu From SoKannada₹ 4.00 Cr₹ 75+ CrBlockbusterThalaivan ThalaiviiTamil₹ 25.00 Cr₹ 65.00 CrSuperhitAlappuzha GymkhanaMalayalam₹ 10.00 Cr₹ 50.60 CrSuperhitF1 MovieEnglish₹ - Cr₹ 115.00 CrSuperhit## Su From So (Kannada – Comedy Drama) - Set in the coastal village of Marlur linked to Someshwara, the story follows Ashoka, a carefree young man whose innocent crush spirals into rumours of possession by a ghost named Sulochana, upending village life through a cascade of comedic supernatural events. It is already the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year with domestic gross collection of over 50 crores, against the budget of around 4 crores. ## Thalaivan Thalaivii (Tamil – Romantic Action Comedy) - Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, the film became another modest-budgeted Tamil box office hit of the year. It reportedly cost 25 crores the make, and it has already grossed around 60 crores domestically and is still going strong. ## Alappuzha Gymkhana (Malayalam – Sports Drama) - Directed by Khalid Rahman and starring Naslen among others, it is a story of a group of students, who, after failing exams, try entering college through sports quotas, picking boxing. They luck through district matches, but face uncertainty at higher competition levels. It was a success at the box office, grossing over 50 crores in India, against the budget of around 10 crores. ## F1 (Hollywood – Sports Drama) - Brad Pitt's F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski (of Top Gun: Maverick fame), was expected to perform well globally — but what surprised trade analysts was its exceptional run in India. Despite being a niche sports film centred on Formula 1 racing, F1 resonated with Indian audiences, thanks to sleek visuals, thrilling race sequences, and Brad Pitt's enduring star power. It grossed around 115 crores in India, emerging as one of the highest-grossing original Hollywood films. ## Stay tuned...

Raj B. Shetty's Blockbuster 'Su From So' Hits A Major Milestone For Kannada Cinema

Bengaluru, August 2 - The box office throws another surprise and brings a major milestone for Kannada cinema, which has had a poor year so far. Actor-producer Raj B. Shetty's comedy drama Su From So has surprised one and all by emerging as a box office blockbuster. ## Directed by J. P. Thuminad, Su From So was released on July 25, and despite the limited expectations, the movie has crossed 30 crores gross collection at the domestic box office and is heading towards the 50 crores mark. It is already the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year, which also indicates how poorly Kannada films have fared this year. ## While the movie continues to march along, it has become the first original Kannada movie of the year and first since August 2023 to sell 1+ million tickets on the online ticketing platform Book My Show. Yash's 'KGF: Chapter 3' Re-Confirmed As Makers Celebrate 3 Years of Monster Blockbuster 'KGF: Chapter 2'

Bengaluru, April 14 - The biggest blockbuster from the Kannada film industry KGF: Chapter 2 starring superstar Yash and directed by Prashanth Neel, was released on this day (April 14) three years ago, and the rest is history. ## The action drama set the box office on fire upon its release and went on to become the highest-grossing Kannada film of all time with a worldwide collection of over 1200 crores. It is miles ahead of the rest of the Kannada titles and an uphill task for the industry to achieve. ## Produced by Hombale Films, KGF: Chapter 2 is the second part of KGF (2018), but it wasn't the end of the series, as the makers promised the third part in the post-credit scene of part 2. Over the last 3 years, the makers have reiterated their commitment to bring the next chapter, and they have reconfirmed the same again on the third anniversary. ## On Monday, Hombale Films shared over a 2-minute-long trailer-type celebratory video featuring the blockbuster moments of KGF 2 and at the end of it, the studio has promised to come up with KGF: Chapter 3 soon. There are no other details about the next film that have been revealed yet. ## The makers had earlier promised to start the third installment in 2025, but the delay was always on the cards, given the other commitments of both Yash and director Neel. While Yash is currently working on Toxic and Ramayana, Neel is directing superstar Jr. NTR-fronted Dragon, and all 3 films will hit the big screens in 2026. KGF 3 is expected to start rolling by 2026 end or 2027, once the duo completes their ongoing and other planned films.## He came… He saw… He conquered!Celebrating 3 GLORIOUS YEARS of #KGFChapter2 and the Monster’s mayhem at the box office ❤️‍🔥- https://t.co/atPSFXN1nA#3YearsOfKGF2Rampage@TheNameIsYash #PrashanthNeel @VKiragandur @hombalefilms @duttsanjay @TandonRaveena @SrinidhiShetty7… pic.twitter.com/HMYimSa35a— Hombale Films (@hombalefilms) April 14, 2025 ## Stay tuned...
