Chennai, April 28 - Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam's dream project just getting bigger and bigger as the second part of epic Ponniyin Selvan is off to a flying start at the domestic box office. The first part is already one of the highest-grossing Tamil movies of all time and now, "PS-2" has started very well.
There wasn't a massive online buzz for Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2, but thanks to the overwhelming response to "PS-1" last year, the awareness among the general audience was there and this was clearly visible on the opening day of the release.

As per the early estimates, "PS-2" has grossed around 32+ crores in all versions, including 18+ crores in the home state, Tamil Nadu. The first part opened at around 40 crores, including approx. 25 crores in Tamil Nadu.

The Telugu version too performed decently as early estimates suggest 3-4 crores gross (PS-1 opened at around 5.50 crores) in the Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In Karnataka, PS-2 has scored an estimated around 4-5 crores (PS-1 was 4.10 crores) gross opening.

PS-2 has brought cheers to the Kerala industry which hasn't had much success this year. As per the estimates, the movie has grossed around 2-2.50+ crores opening in Kerala. PS-1, however, took 3.15 crores opening in the state. The rest of India's gross collection is around 2.50 crores which is similar to the first part.

Overall, PS-2 has started on a strong note, and with solid word of mouth by its side, the movie is expected to continue to the momentum in the coming days with not much competition, especially in Tamil Nadu.
