Tovino Thomas calls 'Minnal Murali' co-star Guru Somasundaram a 'mentor'

Chennai, Dec 25 (IANS) Actor Tovino Thomas, whose just-released superhero film 'Minnal Murali' has been getting rave reviews, says he has not just found a friend in Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram but also a mentor as well.



Posting pictures of himself with his co-star Guru Somasundaram on social media, Tovino said, "For obvious reasons, I had to wait for so long to post these pictures. But here's to having met one of the most sweetest persons, with whom I have had endless conversations about cinema, life and what not."



"It was important to have a connection and chemistry for us to play Jaison and Shibu, and my bond with him has been one of the biggest takeaways from 'Minnal Murali'. I'm happy beyond words in having found a friend who I see in the place of a mentor and Guru as well. Guru Somasundaram Sir! Thank you for joining hands with us in making history. Cheers to many more."



Guru Somasundaram, best known for his brilliant portrayal of Mannar Mannan in the critically accalimed superhit Tamil film 'Joker' which won over 12 awards including two National Awards, plays Shibu in 'Minnal Murali'.



Directed by Basil Joseph and produced by Sophia Paul, 'Minnal Murali' has music by Sushin Shyam and cinematography by Sameer Thahir.



The film, which was originally supposed to release in theatres, is streaming on Netflix.

Kochi, June 2 - All-time Malayalam blockbuster 2018 soaring to new heights at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. Having already broken most of the box office records, "2018" has now claimed another milestone. ## Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, "2018" has grossed 101.30 crores through the 4th Thursday (24 days) which makes it the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time at the Indian box office, beating Mohanlal's "Pulimurugan" which grossed an estimated 100 crores (numbers might be manipulated). ## The Malayalam trade sources are divided over "Pulimurugan's" box office collection as some of them claim that it didn't cross 100 crores domestically while some claim otherwise. Taking average numbers of Mohanlal-starrer into account, then "2018" is the second 100 crores grosser Malayalam movie ever in India. ## The worldwide box office collection of "2018" has reached 170 crores, including approximately 68.70 crores of overseas collection. As reported earlier, the movie is already the highest-grossing Malayalam title worldwide and internationally along with some other records to its name. ## "2018", produced by Kavya Film Company and PK Prime Production, is based on actual events during the 2018 Kerala floods. Kochi, May 29 - The Tovino Thomas-led Malayalam blockbuster 2018 is having a record-breaking run at the domestic as well as overseas box office. The film has broken almost all the major records for a Malayalam movie in just 4 weeks of the run. ## Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, "2018" was released on May 5, and in just 24 days, it has grossed over 160 crores at the worldwide box office. It surpassed Pulimurugan's 78.50 crores yesterday (24th day) to become the new box office king in the state with approx. 80 crores gross. ## Fastest Malayalam movie to reach 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office ## 2018 took just 11 days to breach the 100 crores gross mark globally, beating Lucifer's record of 12 days. Kochi, May 27 - It has been three weeks since the Malayalam movie 2018 was released in theaters, and as things stand today, it is the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam movie at the worldwide box office. ## The Jude Anthany Joseph's directorial film, based on the true events of the Kerala floods in 2018, was released at a time when the Mollywood industry wasn't having a great time at the box office with back-to-back failures this year.## The makers hardly had any idea about the film's box office potential, but now, the results are there for everyone to see. Being a small film industry with not much market outside Kerala, the Malayalam industry hasn't delivered many huge box office blockbusters, hence the success of "2018" becomes even more special. ## It is only the 3rd Malayalam title of all time to cross the 100 crores mark at the worldwide box office and even went on to top Mohanlal's "Pulimurugan" to become the Malayalam industry hit.
