Dulquer Salmaan's 40th Film I'm Game Postponed From Its Scheduled Onam Release

The highly anticipated Onam box office showdown has taken an unexpected turn with the latest update regarding Dulquer Salmaan's milestone project, I'm Game. Originally scheduled for a grand worldwide theatrical release on August 20, 2026, the film has now been postponed. According to recent reports from industry insiders, the delay is due to the incompletion of post-production work. While fans were eagerly counting down the days to see the superstar in his 40th film, it appears the makers are prioritizing the final quality of this high-budget mega-project over meeting the initial deadline.

The scale of I'm Game justifies the extra time being taken in the editing room. Produced under Dulquer's own banner, Wayfarer Films, the production has spanned over 100 diverse locations to capture the international flavor of the story. Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, who recently delivered the massive hit RDX, the film is expected to be a high-octane action thriller. To ensure the action sequences are world-class, the team brought in the acclaimed stunt duo Anbariv, known for their work in major blockbusters like KGF and Vikram. This combination of a hit-making director and elite stunt coordinators has made the film one of the most talked-about projects in the Malayalam industry.

In this film, Dulquer Salmaan steps into a role that is being described as sleek, modern, and entirely fearless. He portrays a charismatic gambler who famously lives by the philosophy of trusting luck more than life itself. However, the plot suggests that his high-stakes lifestyle is thrown into absolute chaos by a series of unexpected events. This shift drags his character away from the luxury of the casino and into the middle of ruthless international gang wars and a desperate struggle for survival. The first-look posters, which show the actor surrounded by cash and casino chips, have already set a stylish tone for what is being called a landmark performance in his career.

The supporting cast is equally powerhouse, featuring a blend of talent from across industries. The film stars Antony Varghese, popularly known as Pepe, along with Mysskin, Kathir, Samyuktha Viswanathan, and Kayadu Lohar. This ensemble suggests that the narrative will have multiple layers and intense character dynamics. On the musical front, the film has already started making waves. The romantic track Mazhavillaye, composed by Jakes Bejoy and sung by Armaan Malik, recently dropped and instantly crossed the 2 million views mark.

Before the postponement was announced, I'm Game was set for a massive Onam box office clash. It was positioned to go head-to-head with other heavyweights like Prithviraj's Khalifa and Nivin Pauly's Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. This three-way battle between the top stars of Mollywood was the highlight of the festive season's calendar. With Dulquer's film now moving out of the August 20 slot, the box office dynamics for Onam 2026 will shift significantly.

The Paradise Box Office War: Nani Set for a Historic Showdown Against Suriya, Dulquer, and Prithviraj This August

BY SACNILK

The upcoming August 2026 box office window is shaping up to be one of the most crowded and high-stakes periods for South Indian cinema in recent memory. Within a span of just eight days, four major superstars are bringing their highly anticipated projects to the big screen. This lineup creates a massive logistical challenge for theater owners and a feast for moviegoers, but it also raises important questions about whether such a close release schedule is a benefit or a risk for the industry. The wave begins on August 14 with Suriya's Vishwanath and Sons. Directed by Venky Atluri, this film stands out from the rest as it is a nuanced family drama and sports-romance rather than a typical mass-genre entertainer. Suriya plays an international pistol-shooting champion in a bilingual project shot in both Tamil and Telugu. While it gets a head start by releasing almost a week earlier, it will need to maintain strong word-of-mouth to survive the onslaught of three massive action films arriving just days later. The real explosion happens on August 20, when two of Malayalam cinema's biggest stars, Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, go head-to-head. Dulquer's I'm Game, directed by Nahas Hidayath, is a pan-Indian action-thriller exploring themes of cricket betting and fantasy gaming. On the same day, Prithviraj's Khalifa hits theaters. Subtitled The Bloodline, this underworld saga features an extended cameo by Mohanlal, which has already sent expectations soaring. These two films will compete directly for screen space in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and international markets like the Middle East. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The pressure intensifies just 24 hours later on August 21, with the release of Nani's period action-drama, The Paradise. Directed by Srikanth Odela and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, this film is set in the 1980s slums of Secunderabad. While Nani is expected to dominate the Telugu states, the overlap with the other releases is undeniable. In an interesting twist, actress Kayadu Lohar finds herself as the female lead in both I'm Game and The Paradise, meaning she will literally be competing against herself at the box office on the same weekend. A clash of this magnitude acts as a double-edged sword for the industry. On the positive side, it creates a massive surge in overall footfalls, turning the weekend into a festival-like atmosphere. The wide variety of genres—ranging from Suriya's family sports drama to the gritty underworld themes of Khalifa and the period setting of The Paradise—ensures that there is something for every type of moviegoer. The real challenge, however, lies in how the screens are distributed once the word of mouth kicks in. Unlike a solo release where a hit can monopolize every screen in a city, these four films will have to fight to retain their shows from the very first day. An average film that might have survived in a solo window could see its screens replaced much faster in this scenario, as theaters will have three other high-demand alternatives ready to take over. It effectively becomes a survival of the fittest scenario where only the strongest content will thrive. Furthermore, the marketing costs for each production house will skyrocket as they fight for the audience's attention in a cluttered space. While Nani's The Paradise may hold the upper hand in the AP-TG region and Dulquer's I'm Game might lead in Tamil and Malayalam markets, the overlap in the Telugu-Tamil bilingual space for Suriya and the pan-Indian aspirations of the others will lead to a fragmented box office. Ultimately, the success of this August madness will depend on whether the quality of the content can sustain four different narratives simultaneously, or if one dominant film will eventually push the others out of the race.

On its sixth day, a Wednesday, the film is tracking towards a collection of ₹0.73 crore, based on early estimates. Kaantha bookings open in Tamil Nadu; Dulquer Salmaan’s period drama begins its box office journey

BY SACNILK

Dulquer Salmaan is stepping back into vintage cinema with Kaantha, a much-awaited Tamil–Telugu bilingual set in the 1950s Madras film world. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and produced by Dulquer and Rana Daggubati under Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, the film is already generating massive curiosity ahead of its November 14 release. The buzz around Kaantha has officially kicked off with advance bookings now open across Tamil Nadu. Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with early viewers calling it one of Dulquer’s most ambitious Tamil outings yet. If the strong pre-release chatter translates to word-of-mouth, Kaantha could well emerge as the next breakout success after Lucky Bhaskar. #Kaantha bookings are now open in TN 🎟️🔥Buzz is super strong! If word of mouth hits right, this one could be the next #LuckyBhaskar-level success.#DulquerSalmaan | #Bhagyashriborse pic.twitter.com/zLCnq6AnPS— Kollywood Now (@kollywoodnow) November 11, 2025 The film Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, is a fictional period drama inspired by Tamil cinema’s first superstar, M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. Dulquer plays Chandran, an ambitious actor mentored by Ayya Subramaniam (Samuthirakani), whose bond gradually turns into rivalry. Bhagyashri Borse plays Kumari, adding emotional balance to this story set in 1950s Madras. With vintage aesthetics, intricate production design, and the stunning visuals of Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez (Mahanati), Kaantha recreates the golden era of Tamil cinema with authenticity and flair. The film also marks the Tamil debut of Bhagyashri Borse, whose pairing with Dulquer has already caught the internet’s attention. With Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati joining forces both as actors and producers, Kaantha is shaping up to be a true pan-Indian spectacle. Backed by promising word-of-mouth and rich storytelling, the film is well on track to become one of this season’s most talked-about releases.
