Smriti Mandhana will be the first Indian to play in Women's cricket Super League in England as she signing up with the defending champion Western Storm for the upcoming season.## Mandhana has been a consistent performer for India in limited overs cricket since 2017 World Cup. She has scored 402 runs in 12 T20I innings with four half-centuries and 531 runs scored in 9 ODI innings with five half-centuries and a career-best 135 against South Africa in 2018.## Mandhana was delighted after signing up with the defending champion.## "I am very excited to be playing for the Kia Super League champions. To be the first Indian player to appear in the tournament is a real honour and I hope that I can help Western Storm to more success,".## Mandhana is the only second overseas player to signing up with the Western Storm as New Zealand's wicketkeeper batter, Rachel Priest is the first and will play her third stint with the club.## "We are really excited that Smriti will be joining us. She is one of the brightest young talents in the game at the moment. Although she is still young, she has a great deal of experience of the game at the highest level and we believe that she will prove to be an excellent signing," Storm head coach Trevor Griffin said.## This is not the first instance when Smriti Mandhana is will be playing franchise cricket. Mohammad Shami, 27-year old Bengal paceman, is all set to miss the historic Afghanistan Test after failed to prove his fitness at the NCA Bengaluru. Navdeep Saini named his replacement. The BCCI confirmed on Monday, July 11.## Mohammad Shami has been the vital part of Indian test side. Earlier this year, he had played all three matches against South Africa in Africa and ended up with 15 wickets. ## He was one of the main reasons in India's win in the 3rd test where Shami took 6-wickets in second innings.## This could be the huge blow for India and Shami personally if he doesn't get fit ahead of England series in July and Australia later this year as he expected to play the vital role in the overseas season.## Shami's replacement, 25-year old Navdeep Saini impressed in 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season where he picked 34 wickets in 8 matches he played for Delhi. He was also called up to bowl to Indian batsmen during South Africa tour.## Apart from Shami, Kerala's wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson who was picked in India A one-day squad for England tour also failed in this test. ## He will be replaced by Jharkhand's 19-year old Ishan Kishan.## Yo-yo test has become the necessity for selection in the Indian squad. Umesh Yadav was one of the few bowlers who had impressed with his bowling in recently concluded Indian Premier League where he picked 20 wickets in 14 matches.## It was unfortunate that even his best season with the ball couldn't help RCB to qualify for the playoffs as RCB finished their season with number 6 in points table.## Umesh Yadav has credited Ashish Nehra, RCB's bowling coach for his success in IPL. He was talking to Press trust of India where he said,## "Any performer is happy when he successfully executes his plans. I am really happy with my performance in the IPL. It was unfortunate that we could not make it to the playoffs, but it was one of my best IPL seasons".## However, Yadav also believe that Virat Kohli's aggressive approach also helped him in that course.## “Virat (Kohli) had one clear instruction for me. Go for the kill. He told me ‘get me the wickets and do not bother about getting hit’. I did as my skipper told me.” India's overseas season is about to start in July. Umesh Yadav will be one of the key bowlers when India will take on England in 5-match test series. However, Yadav's selection will not be automatic as there are other bowlers who have been performing consistently for India.## Although Yadav is not bothering about his selection and said that his job is to be ready for the match and not thinking about my selection in playing XI.## “It's a happy headache for the team management – the coach and the captain – to pick the best among us,” said Yadav. “I am personally in a very good head space after IPL. My job is to be ready, and the captain and the head coach have their job.## “We are a close-knit group and even when Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) or Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) do well, I am proud of their achievements. My job is to be battle ready for the season ahead and I am doing just that.”## Keep in mind, Umesh Yadav didn't play a single match when India played three-match series against South Africa. What a thrilling end of the women's Asia Cup final. But it was Bangladesh who creates history as they beat 6 time Asia cup winner, India by 3 wickets to win first ever Asia cup on Sunday, June 10.## Going into this match, Bangladesh had nothing to lose. They stunned hot favourite India and written their name in history.## Earlier in this match, it was Bangladesh who had won the toss and put India to bat first. India started poorly and lost Smriti Mandhana after getting run out on a team score of 12. Before India could recover, Deepti Sharma (4 off 10) and Mithali Raj (11 off 18) lose their wickets in back to back overs.## Anuja Patil got out to Obstructing field as she changed her direction while running. She scored only 3 off 4 balls. India at one stage was 32 for 4 after 8.2 overs. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy then put up a short but important partnership of 30 off 25 balls before Veda bowled out by skipper Salma Khatun. Tania Bhatia and Shikha Pandey also followed Veda as India reduced to 74 for 7 after 15 overs. ## However, Kaur and Jhulan Goswami put up 33- runs together and gave bowlers something to defend as India finished with 112 for 9 in 20 overs. Kaur led from the front and scored 56 off 42 balls before getting out on this last ball of the innings.## Bangladesh bowled well, Rumana Ahmad was the star with 22 for 2 in 4 overs. Khadija also bowled well and finished her spell with 23 for 2.## In reply of 113, Bangladesh started well and put 35 for the first wicket before Poonam Yadav dismissed both the openers in back to back balls. But Nigar Sultana (27 off 24) and Rumana Ahmad (23 off 22 balls) took the game away from India.## Bangladesh was needed 9 runs to win in last over and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur took the responsibility on her shoulders 5o defend those runs. She conceded 6 runs off first 3 balls but did well on next to ball as she gave only single and got 2 wickets (one run out). 2 required in the last ball, Jahanara Alam pushed towards deep mid wicket and completed two runs and won the Asia Cup.## Poonam Yadav was the star bowler for India as she finished her spell with 9 for 4. India's dominance over Pakistan in women's cricket had continued as India crushed Pakistan by 7-wickets to reach final of the women's Asia Cup for record 7th time on Saturday, June 9. ## Pakistan yet to beat India in women's cricket as It was the 10th match between the two nations and India have won all of them.## In this virtual Semi-final, Pakistan had won the toss and opted to bat first. ## However, Pakistan could score only 72 for 7 in 20 overs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli adds one more feather to his hat as he will be awarded the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award at the BCCI awards on June 12 in Bangalore. The board announced on Thursday, June 7.## Virat Kohli has been in exceptional form since last two seasons. Afghanistan put up another dominating show to beat Bangladesh by 6-wickets in 2nd T20 at Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, Dehradun on June 5 and sealed the series by 2-0 with one more game to play. ## It was nothing but another Rashid Khan special whose 4 for 12 restricted Bangladesh to 134 for 8 before Samiullah Shenwari's 49 and Mohammad Nabi's unbeaten 31 off 15 balls sealed the deal for Afghanistan with 7 balls to spare.## It was a do or die match for Bangladesh as they already had lost the first match. In a must-win game, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite Tamim Iqbal's 43 off 48 balls, Afghanistan's spinners didn't allow them to free their hand. Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular interval and therefore they could manage only 134 after 20 overs. Their few batsmen had started well but couldn't capitalize on big scores.## Rashid Khan again proved his worth and picked 4 wickets and conceded only 12 runs in 4 overs and awarded Man Of The Match in back to back games. He got a good company in Mohammad Nabi, who also bowled decently well and finished his spell with 4-0-19-2.## In reply, Mohammad Shahzad and Usman Ghani gave a good start to Afghanistan by adding 38 for the first wicket. However, Bangladesh kept things tight in the middle overs as Afghanistan could score only 56 in first 10 overs. When skipper Asghar Stanikzai got out, Afghanistan was 79 for 3 in 13.4 overs.## After wicket of Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi came to the crease and blow pressure completely away with a blitzing cameo of 31 off 15 balls. When 20 runs were needed in 2 overs, it took only 5 balls for Nabi to get those runs. He hammered two sixes and two fours to Rubel Hossain in 19th over and finished the game with 7 balls to spare.## Nabi and Shenwari added 36 off 26 balls for the 4th wicket. Shenwari scored 49 off 41 balls and was the top scorer of this match. Mosaddek Hossain was the star bowler for Bangladesh. He conceded 21 runs in 3 overs and picked 2 wickets out of 4 were felled.## Third T20 will be played on 7th of June at the same venue. Former Australian fast bowler and one of the legends of the game, Glenn McGrath believes that James Anderson will have the upper hand against Virat Kohli when India will tour England in July. McGrath was talking to media in MRF pace foundation in Chennai. The legend has been a regular visitor in India since taking over as a director of MRF pace foundation in 2012.## He talked a lot about India's upcoming tour of England, the key factor for India in England, what Kohli need to do, Australia's ball-tampering scandal and more.## Here are some excerpts from his interview:## India will be playing a gruelling five-match Test series in England after the T20 and ODI series starting in July. Do you think they will be able to successfully adapt to the longer format?## A lot of it depends on the preparation time they have leading up to the Tests. You have got to adopt a lot quicker these days. Well, most guys have played in England before. Experience plays a big part in being able to adjust and adapt quicker. They have to rely on experience to take them through in England.## Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have been in good form in the last few months. Will they hold the key for India in English conditions?## Yes, I think Bhuvi and Bumrah will hold the key. Both of them have got pretty good control. That's what you need in England. The Duke ball has got a pronounced seam. If you get the ball in the right areas consistently, it will do a little bit throughout and they will do well.## Bumrah did very well in his debut Test series in South Africa earlier this year. Does he have to do anything different in English conditions to replicate his success?## I expect Bumrah to do well in England too simply because of the way he bowls. He has got a unique action, but he bowls lengths that are challenging for the batsmen. He will enjoy bowling with the Duke ball. I actually think all the Indian pacers will have success in England. It's just a question of the batsmen getting enough runs.## Kohli versus James Anderson is expected to be the defining battle during the Test series. Kohli struggled last time around, averaging just 13.40 in five Tests. How do you see that contest shaping up?## Obviously, Kohli is a more experienced player this time around. There's no doubt that he's a quality batsman, but English conditions are pretty tough. When you have got a bowler like James Anderson who knows the conditions so well, it's going to be a lot of hard work for Kohli. He has to be prepared to work hard. He can't just go out and play his game and hit through the line. He has to be able to adapt. I'm looking forward to the battle.## In relation to the ball-tampering episode, the Australian team of the 2000s received a lot of criticism, with people saying that this culture emanated from there. What are your thoughts having been a part of that side?## I disagree with that completely. It was just a way that other teams and media used to have a go at the Australian team because they couldn't have a go at us for playing badly or anything else. It always annoyed me. I have spoken to captains from other teams of that era, and they never felt that Australians were the worst sledgers.## Virat Kohli had a miserable tour of England back in 2014 when he could score only 134 runs in 10 innings. However, his ODI record has been very impressive in England. He has scored 682 runs in 19 innings with an average of 52.46.
