Dakota Johnson Set To Play First Female Superhero 'Madame Web' In Sony Pictures' Universe Of Marvel Characters

Mumbai, February 3 - Sony Pictures just produced its biggest blockbuster in the form of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and is now, expanding its Universe of Marvel Characters by bringing the first female superhero in the helm. ## According to Deadline, actress Dakota Johnson, known for her roles in "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "The Social Network" is in talks to star in the studio's "Madame Web" movie. The movie will be directed by S.J. Clarkson, known for "The Defenders", "Life on Mars" while Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have penned the screenplay.## In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains.## It is said that considering Dakota Johnson's young age, she could play the current, younger Madame Web, Julia Carpenter in the movie instead of playing the original Madame Web in the comics, Cassandra Web.## The Deadline report states that Sony has been trying to include a female-driven property in Sony's Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time. Mumbai, January 24 - The third Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man movie, "No Way Home" is marching alone at the worldwide box office. This Tom Holland-fronted has been unstoppable since its debut in theaters in December last year. ## After becoming the 4th highest-grossing domestic (North America) film, "No Way Home" has now become the 6th all-time highest-grosser at the worldwide box office. The superhero movie was at number 8 till the last weekend and broke into the top six after passing "Jurassic World" ($1.67B) and "The Lion King" ($1.662B), through 6th Sunday with a $1.69 billion global cume. ## The Jon Watts-directed has so far grossed $970.1 million at the international box office and $721 million domestically. At the domestic box office, it is eyeing to finish at number 3 after its entire box office run. Meanwhile, it will become only the 6th film to gross $1 billion overseas by the end of next weekend, that too without a single penny from China, which is the biggest movie market in the world. ## The United Kingdom is leading "Spider-Man: No Way Home's" overseas run with $116.9 million, followed by Mexico with $73.4 million. In Mexico, "No Way Home" recently became the highest-grossing film of all time after crossing "Avengers: Endgame" there. ## The Top 10 international markets for "No Way Home" through 6th Sunday are as follows: the UK ($116.9M), Mexico ($73.4M), Korea ($60.6M), France ($59.9M), Australia ($53.2M), Brazil ($52.4M), Russia ($45.3M), Germany ($43M), India ($36M), and Spain ($28.9M).## According to Deadline, in IMAX, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has swung into the Top 10 of the format's all-time releases. Los Angeles, January 24 - Tom Hardy-fronted "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" is putting strong legs at the domestic box office, even after it was made available on PVOD services in late November 2021. ## The superhero movie, directed by Andy Serkis, was re-released second last weekend in the domestic (North America) market. The Marvel/ Sony film grossed an additional $175k in its second weekend of re-release and 17th overall, lifting its overall domestic cume to an estimated $213.5 million.## After its latest box office figure, "Venom 2" has matched the total cume of 2018's "Venom" movie at the domestic box office and will cross it anytime now. Johnny Depp Cast To Play Disgraced King Louis XV In French Actress-Director's Upcoming Film

Los Angeles, January 23 - Johnny Depp might still be facing tough times in Hollywood, but the Pirates of the Caribbean star has lined up his next project in France. Depp will star as French king Louis XV in the next film directed by French Cesar-winning actress and director Maiwenn.## The yet-untitled film will be shot for three months on location across Parisian landmarks, mainly at the Versailles Palace. The plot of the period drama is being kept under wraps. Paris-based Why Not Productions (A Prophet) are producing this film while Wild Bunch International is handling worldwide sales and will introduce the project to buyers at next month's European Film Market in Berlin, reports 'THR'.## Louis XV, also known as Louis the Beloved, ruled as King of France for 59 years, from 1715, when he succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five, to his death in 1774. Arnold Schwarzenegger Unharmed, Woman Injured In Car Crash

Los Angeles, Jan 22 (IANS) Hollywood action star and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger escaped unhurt from an auto accident in Brentwood, a Los Angeles suburb.## A woman is reported to have been rushed to the hospital after she suffered a head injury in the crash, but with minor bleeding, reports 'Variety'.## At the time of the crash, Schwarzenegger was driving his mega-SUV GMC Yukon, which rammed into a Toyota Prius at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Allenford Avenue, near the Riviera Country Club.## Two other cars at the intersection were also struck as a result of the collision.## A spokesperson for the actor confirmed that he was unhurt and was only concerned about the woman who was injured. Ana de Armas Fans Sue Universal Studios For 'Yesterday' Promo

Los Angeles, Jan 22 (IANS) Two fans of the Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas, have filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios seeking a settlement of at least $5 million on behalf of affected consumers.## The lawsuit has been filed over false advertising, alleging that the fans were duped into renting the 2019 film 'Yesterday' because the trailer gave them the impression that the actress would appear in the film, reports 'Variety'.## Conor Woulfe, 38, of Maryland, and Peter Michael Rosza, 44, of San Diego County, California, say they each paid $3.99 to rent the movie on Amazon Prime, only to discover that de Armas had been removed from the final cut of the film.## The lawsuit accessed by 'Variety' states: "Because consumers were promised a movie with Ana De Armas by the trailer for 'Yesterday', but did not receive a movie with any appearance of Ana de Armas at all, such consumers were not provided with any value for their rental or purchase".## 'Yesterday' stars Himesh Patel (most recently seen in 'Don't Look Up') as Jack Malik, a singer-songwriter who becomes the only person on Earth to remember 'The Beatles' after a supernatural occurrence.## He rockets to stardom after he claims the credit for the English rock band's songs. Tom Cruise's 'Mission Impossible 7' And 8' Release Date Delayed Again

Los Angeles, January 22 - Tom Cruise's keenly-awaited "Mission Impossible 7" has been delayed again as the covid-19 pandemic is still taking a toll on the theatrical releases.## Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media's spy actioner tentpole will now debut in theaters on July 14, 2023, after getting pushed from September 30, 2022, release date. This is the 6th time "MI7" has been delayed. ## It was originally announced for July 2020 before pushing it to December 2020. That date obviously didn't hold as the movie was further pushed to November 19, 2021, and then to May 27, 2022. The new release dates will be July 14, 2023, and June 28, 2024, respectively. 'Godzilla And The Titans' Live-Action Series In Development

Los Angeles, Jan 21 (IANS) Network Apple has ordered a live-action Godzilla series from Legendary Television. ## According to Variety, the untitled series continues the story of the Legendary Monsterverse established in films like 'Kong: Skull Island' and 2014's 'Godzilla'. ## Following the battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organisation known as Monarch. ## Monarch is a secret government entity that has played a major role in the Monsterverse franchise, working to cover up the existence of and defend the world from creatures like Godzilla and the other Titans. ## Chris Black and Matt Fraction co-created the series with both executive producing. Black will also serve as showrunner. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures will also executive produce along with Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd. Toho is the owner of the Godzilla character and has licensed the rights to Legendary for the series. ## There have been four films in the rebooted Monsterverse to date: 'Godzilla' in 2014, 'Kong: Skull Island' in 2017, 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' in 2019, and most recently 'Godzilla vs. Kong' in 2021. ## There is also a 'Skull Island' anime series currently in the works at Netflix. ##
