Ranveer Singh's '83' Debuts In Netflix's Top 5 Movies Worldwide

Mumbai, March 31 - Ranveer Singh-fronted sports biopic, "83" has had an impressive debut on Netflix after completing its theatrical run. The Kabir Khan-directed lent in the top 5 most-watched non-English movies on Netflix worldwide. ## "83" movie was released in theaters worldwide on December 24 last year and was recently made available on OTT platforms - Disney Plus Hotstar and Netflix on March 21. In its opening week (March 21 - March 27) on Netflix, the movie got 10.5 million viewing hours and was the 4th most-watched movie on the streamer. ## Based on India's maiden cricket world cup triumph in 1983, "83" has been trending in the top 10 films in 20 countries. Among the Asian countries, the movie is the number 1 on Netflix in India, apart from Bahrain, Bangladesh, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates. It is also the number 1 movie in Africa's Mauritius. ## Meanwhile, the Swedish action thriller film, "Black Crab", which was released on March 18 directly on Netflix, garnered a massive 40.5 million viewing hours and remained the number 1 non-English movie on Netflix during the same week. "In Good Hands" and "Without Saying Goodbye" were number 2 and 3 with 28.93M and 13.85M viewing hours, respectively. ## Moving on to "83", the movie has had a decent outing at the box office. During its theatrical run, it grossed approx. 193 crores worldwide, however, due to the high stake involved in it, the movie was declared a box office flop. Mumbai, February 7 - Ranveer Singh-starrer cricket biopic, "83", has been struggling big at the Indian box office. The Kabir Khan-directed grossed approx Rs. 1.50 crores in its 7th weekend, pushing total domestic haul to Rs. 125 crores. ## The domestic box office of "83" is poor considering the fact that the movie cost over Rs. 220 crores in production. Overseas, "83" is the biggest Indian movie, released during the covid-19 pandemic. After 45 days, it has grossed approx Rs. 64 crores. Makers Refuse Early OTT Release Plans For Ranveer Singh-Fronted '83'

Mumbai, January 6 - The makers of Ranveer Singh-fronted sports biopic, "83" have refused the plans of an early digital and satellite release. The movie is currently playing in theaters and in the second week of its box office run.## There were speculations that just like most of the films of 2021, "83" will also be premiered on OTT after 28 days of its theatrical run. Despite being predictable, the film offers an exhilarating and occasionally touching experience that has viewers leaving the auditorium caught up in an afterglow of excited patriotism. ## The film mounted like a brilliantly restored or recreated documentary, captures the three and a half months of - 'the may or may not win' drama, where the actors and few of the actual players seamlessly weave in and out of the narrative. ## The film focuses only on cricket and has everything that cricket fans could have possibly hoped for. The narrative- highlights and flashes the crucial matches and the moments in-between them, bringing back memories to the big screen after nearly 38 years. ## As you are transported back in time, you witness how the 'underdog' Indian team was treated with disdain, and despite all odds, how they emerged as winners. It is invigorating to witness the matches once again and your mood swings like Kapil's bat. You cheer for him when he creates history with a fabulous 175- not out against the Zimbabwe team, and your blood boils when you realise that the legendary game was not recorded on camera because BBC did not think it was important enough. ## What you see on screen is Kapil's charisma, the locker-room banter, the occasional tension and problematic behaviour between the teammates, the strategy they planned during the matches and above all, the anguish and thrills of the matches played during that unforgettable summer. ## Casting is another aspect of the film that could not have been better either. Ranveer with his prosthetic dentures- oddly resembles Kapil Dev, but he slips into his shoes effortlessly delivering a brilliant performance that tugs at the heartstrings. While he emulates the captain of the team, Saqib Saleem plays Mohinder Amarnath, Tahir Raj Bhasin essays Sunil Gavaskar, Jatin Sarna is Yashpal Sharma, Jiiva is K. Reliance Entertainment denies reports that '83' will go directly to OTT

Mumbai, April 25 (IANS) Unconfirmed reports suggesting the upcoming Ranveer Singh-starrer "83" will be sold for release on an OTT platform before it opens in the theatres, have been denied by Reliance Entertainment, co-producers of the much-awaited film. The rumors started after the film's release was pushed from its scheduled date of April 10 owing to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.## Lately, the trade circuit was abuzz with speculations that a global OTT giant with substantial reach in India has offered a whopping Rs 143 crore to the producers of "83" for the purchase of the film's release rights.## However, Reliance Entertainment has denied all such reports, claiming they will "evaluate" if the situation did not become normal even after six months, reports bollywoodhungama.com.## "There is no truth to these reports. '83' has been made for the big-screen experience. Right now, there's no intention or interest on the part of the directors or us as producers, to take these films to the small screen. If the situation deteriorates rapidly or there is no visibility of normalcy even after six months, we will evaluate then. But right now, we are all quite positive and I foresee that between the next four to six months, cinema halls will start operating.
