Mumbai, March 10 - Warner Bros. Pictures has announced the re-release of Academy Award-winning film Dune: Part 2 in India. The Denis Villeneuve's directorial sci-fi epic won the Best Sound and the Best Visual Effects Oscars at the 97th Academy Awards held recently. ## On Monday (March 10), the studio took to social media to announce that Dune 2 will re-release in Indian cinemas on March 14, also in IMAX. It will be a limited release for only 7 days, just like the studio's recently re-release title, Interstellar.## Originally released in March 2024, Dune 2 did decently at the Indian box office with a gross collection of 36+ crores ($4.10+ million). It was still among the top Hollywood grossers of the year in the country. It needs to be seen if it can cross 50 crores mark after the re-release.## Meanwhile, there are reports that Warner Bros. will also bring Interstellar back to Indian cinemas on March 14. It was a success in its recent repeat run with over 20 crores gross collection but due to the limited run of 7 days, fans have been asking for another round. Pictures has its third $500 million grosser in just 5 months at the worldwide box office as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire joins Dune Part 2 and Wonka in this elite club. ## The Adam Wingard's directorial MonsterVerse film, as of Sunday (April 28), grossed $519.3 million (4330 crores) at the worldwide box office, including $337.7 million (2815 crores) internationally and $181.7 million (1515) domestically (North America).## China has been the biggest overseas market for Godzilla x Kong with $125.90 million (1050 crores). India too has been in the top 5 box office market for the film with a gross collection of around 122 crores ($14.60 million), making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise in India.## Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Los Angeles, April 5 - Paul Atreides will be returning to conquer the galaxy as the threequel to Warner Bros. mega hit Dune franchise is officially confirmed, according to Variety.## Following the massive success of Dune: Part 2, which has already grossed over $625 million globally and still going strong, Warner Bros. has tapped director Denis Villeneuve to develop the third part which will continue the story of Paul Atreides. ## There is no timeline fixed yet for when Dune Messiah/Dune 3 will go on floors. Los Angeles, March 26 - Director Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune film series has crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The second of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert is currently playing in theatres, nearing $600 million globally. ## The first film was released in 2021 and grossed $435 million worldwide, including $109 million domestically (North America) despite opening day and date on HBO Max. The highly-anticipated sequel hit big screens on March 1st this year and stormed the box office. ## Starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, Dune 2 scored the biggest opening of 2024 and currently stands at $575 million worldwide, including $233 million domestically. Combined with the first film, the total worldwide gross of the franchise is around $1.01 billion (8425 crores). ## Out of the $1 billion worldwide gross collection of the franchise, the domestic box office has generated $342 million while the international gross is $667+ million so far. Los Angeles, March 19 - Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures' sci-fi epic Dune: Part 2 has stormed past $500 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing the entire run of its predecessor which grossed $433 million, within three weeks. ## Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the blockbuster has so far grossed $210+ million (1740 crores) in North America and $290+ million (2410 crores) internationally for $500+ million (4150 crores) worldwide through the third Monday. It is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024 at the domestic and worldwide box office. ## Domestically, the movie is having similar legs to that of Christopher Nolan's mega-hit Oppenhermier which grossed $329 million. Outside North America, China is the biggest market for Dune 2 with $36 million, followed by the UK with $33 million, Germany with $25 million, France with $25 million, and Australia with $16 million. ## India, the movie has had a decent response so far with a gross collection of close to 30 crores ($3.60 million in 18 days. It is currently the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of 2024 at the Indian box office. Pictures/Legendary Pictures' Dune: Part 2 stormed the worldwide box office in its opening weekend, grossing over $178 million over 72 markets including North America. ## Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the epic sci-fi crushed industry projections to gross a solid $81.5 million (675 crores) in North America in the first weekend which is almost double the first movie's $41 million back in 2021 when the movie opened simultaneously in theatres and HBO Max. ## Dune 2 could be an IMAX phenomenon going forward as around 23% of the total domestic opening weekend gross came from IMAX showing at $18.5 million (153 crores) where ticket rates are higher than regular prices. It is also the biggest opening for both, director Denis Villeneuve and actor Timothée Chalamet. ## Overseas, the movie grossed a mighty $97 million (805 crores) on a 5-day opening weekend over 71 markets, and allied to domestic grosses, the sequel hit $178.5 million (1480 crores) worldwide. The movie is due to open in China (March 8), and Japan (March 15). ## The UK was the biggest contributor outside North America with $11.8 million, followed by France ($9.6M), Germany ($9.1M), South Korea ($6.9M), and Australia ($6M).
