Arijit Singh Becomes First Artist To Hit 150 Million Followers On Spotify; Beats Taylor Swift
Mumbai, July 1 - Legendary Indian playback singer Arijit Singh has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first artist in the world to surpass 150 million followers on Spotify, the popular global music streaming platform. The National Award-winning vocalist, composer, and producer has overtaken international music icon Taylor Swift to claim the top spot. ## As of July 1, 2026, Arijit Singh boasts 151 million followers on Spotify. Swift holds the second position with 139.5 million, followed by Ed Sheeran (121 million), Billie Eilish (114 million), and The Weeknd (107.2 million). Singh first rose to the top of the Spotify follower charts in August 2023, when he overtook Swift to become the most followed artist for a short period of time. ## In August 2024, Singh again became the top artist and, since then, has managed his lead over Swift. At that time, only three artists—including Ed Sheeran—had crossed the 100 million mark. A year later, the number of artists with over 100 million followers has expanded to seven, with Ariana Grande (105.8 million) and Eminem (101.7 million) joining the ranks. ## Arijit Singh's rise reflects the growing global reach of Indian music. Known for his breathtaking, soul-stirring voice and chart-topping Hindi film tracks, Singh's international appeal continues to grow. His achievement is particularly remarkable considering Spotify launched in India only in February 2019, making his follower growth within just six years all the more impressive. This landmark moment further cements Arijit Singh's position as one of the most influential music artists of the 21st century, especially in India and a symbol of India's cultural imprint on global streaming platforms.
