Dhurandhar, Pushpa, KGF, Baahubali: Comparing How Part 2 of The Biggest Indian Blockbusters Fares Against Part 1

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, March 23 - If day 3 was a tsunami, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge brought mayhem on day 4 with another record-breaking collection. The spy action thriller hit the ball out of the park to deliver back-to-back 100 crore net in Hindi. It was like, the first time was nice, so I had to do it twice, kind of thing, as the movie is now in the league of its own. In comparison to the biggest grossers after 4 days, Dhurandhar 2 is the second, only to Pushpa 2, which benefited from the massive Pan India release. However, in the long run, Aditya Dhar's directed film is expected to beat Pushpa 2 and become the number 1 film at the Indian box office. Baahubali, KGF, Pushpa, Dhurandhar - Part 1 vs Part 2 India Gross Comparison (1st 4 Days) Movie Part 1 Part 2 Baahubali - ₹ 485.00 Cr KGF ₹ 83.40 Cr ₹ 462.50 Cr Pushpa ₹ 147.70 Cr ₹ 632.42 Cr Dhurandhar ₹ 151.50 Cr ₹ 541.97 Cr __________________________________________________________________________ Mumbai, March 22 - After the big first two days, the third day of each movie (in this article) has been huge, but Dhurandhar 2 took things to another level without as much support as the other three films got from their non-original films. The Aditya Dhar-directed spy actioner had a monumental day 3 at the Indian box office, which saw the Hindi version topping 100+ crore net for the first time. It is now only behind Pushpa 2, which had a wider pan-India release, after the first three days at the domestic box office. From Baahubali: The Beginning to Dhurandhar 2, filmmakers have successfully expanded their cinematic universes, often turning second instalments into historic box office juggernauts. Here's a look at how Part 2 of some of the biggest Indian blockbusters - Dhurandhar, Pushpa, KGF, and Baahubali - compare with their first parts. Baahubali: The Franchise That Started It All Baahubali: The Beginning was a massive success, but it was Baahubali 2: The Conclusion that rewrote Indian box office history. At a time when ticket prices were comparatively lower than today, Baahubali 2 was a phenomenon beyond boundaries. While it is difficult for most of the movies to generate 10 million admissions in their lifetime runs, Baahubali 2 scored 1+ crore admissions in India on day 1 alone, which still seems out of the world in a country where theatre screens are still insufficient when compared to the large cinema-going audience. While the first film laid the foundation with its grand storytelling and visual spectacle, the sequel capitalised on the iconic question, "Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?" The result was unprecedented hype, leading to a record-breaking theatrical run that far surpassed the original in every market. It remains the biggest Indian blockbuster of the 21st century with over 100 million tickets sold here. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Baahubali Films India Gross (Lifetime) S. However, KGF: Chapter 2 arrived with massive anticipation and delivered a box office explosion. The sequel not only opened bigger but also sustained exceptionally well, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films and the highest-grossing Kannada movie ever, dwarfing the lifetime collections of Part 1 by a 5x margin. However, it was the Hindi market where the movie turned into an unexpected big hit and laid the foundation for its successor to rule the most important territory in India. Building on that popularity, Pushpa 2: The Rule took things to another level. With heightened scale, stronger promotions, and pan-India appeal, the sequel shattered opening day and weekend records, easily outpacing the first part and establishing itself as a global blockbuster. With massive pre-sales, record-breaking ticket demand, and a historic opening, the second instalment has already outperformed Part 1 in terms of initial numbers. Despite some setbacks like show cancellations in dubbed versions, the film has demonstrated the sheer power of franchise hype in today's market. Unlike the other three films (in this article), Dhurandhar Part 1 itself was a monstrous hit with over 1000 crore gross at the Indian box office. It is the only original film to reach this figure at the domestic box office. Part 2, which is the continuation of the first film, has started on an unpremeditated note and is expected to outgross the first film very soon. Sequels often come with bigger budgets, improved storytelling, and a deeper emotional payoff, making them more appealing to a wider audience. From Baahubali 2: The Conclusion setting the benchmark to Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge carrying the momentum forward, Indian cinema has mastered the art of the sequel. In most of the cases, Part 2 doesn't just match expectations, it surpasses them, proving that when done right, franchises only grow stronger with time. Stay tuned...

Ranveer Singh Starrer Dhurandhar Nears Pushpa 2 Record Ahead of The Second Part's Titanic Clash with Yash's Toxic

BY SACNILK

Yash Raj Films has acknowledged the historic box office run of Dhurandhar, as the Ranveer Singh-starrer continues its sensational march in theatres. The Aditya Dhar directorial has not only shattered multiple records in its extended run but has now firmly positioned itself as the biggest blockbuster in Hindi cinema history. After completing over a month at the box office, Dhurandhar recently scripted another milestone by delivering the biggest 5th weekend ever for a Hindi film, collecting an impressive ₹33.25 crore net. With this, the film's total net collection has surged past 781 crore in just 33 days, putting it within striking distance of Pushpa 2's all-time Hindi net record. It will cross Pushpa 2's 812 crore net record over its 6th weekend to become the biggest Hindi grosser. Dhurandhar has set a new gold standard for solo-language releases. While other ₹1000-crore club entrants relied on pan-India, multi-language releases to increase their numbers, Ranveer Singh's espionage drama has achieved this gargantuan feat through its Hindi version only, making it a unique record holder in the history of the Indian box office. Director Aditya Dhar has once again proven his mettle in the action-thriller genre. After the massive success of Uri: The Surgical Strike, Dhar has scaled even greater heights with Dhurandhar. Below is a look at his top-performing directorial ventures: Dhurandhar (2025): ₹781.75 Cr+ (India Net - Ongoing) Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019): ₹244.14 Cr (India Net) With just two major releases, Aditya Dhar has become one of the most bankable directors in the country. His ability to blend realistic military/intelligence operations with high-octane commercial cinema has resonated deeply with the Naya Bharat audience. The frenzy surrounding the film isn't stopping anytime soon. The makers have already confirmed Dhurandhar: Part 2 (officially titled Dhurandhar 2: Revenge), which is slated for a grand release on March 19, 2026. However, the path to the box office won't be easy this time. Dhurandhar 2 is set for a massive box office collision with Yash's highly anticipated Pan-India film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   While Dhurandhar currently rules the charts, one cannot underestimate the box office might of Yash, who essentially redefined the Pan-India phenomenon. Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 (2022) holds the distinction of being the Highest Grossing Indian Film of the Year (HGOTY) for 2022, with a staggering Indian net collection of approximately ₹859.7 Crore and a worldwide gross of ₹ 1,215 crore. Even before the sequel, KGF: Chapter 1 had already set a benchmark as the first Kannada film to cross the ₹250 crore mark worldwide. Yash remains one of the few actors whose films have consistently challenged the dominance of the biggest Bollywood and Tollywood stars, making his upcoming return with Toxic a genuine threat to any record currently standing. Dhurandhar has received praise not just for its box office numbers but for its technical brilliance. Featuring an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, the film gripped audiences despite its massive 214-minute (3 hours and 34 minutes) runtime. As the film continues its legendary run, it currently stands as the 4th highest domestic grosser of all time, sitting just behind Pushpa 2: The Rule, Baahubali 2, and KGF Chapter 2. With the sequel arriving in just a few months, the Dhurandhar mania is only expected to intensify.

100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box Office: Blockbuster Su From So Joins Yash's KGF 2 and Four Others

BY SACNILK

Bengaluru, August 17 - Kannada cinema has delivered yet another remarkable milestone at the worldwide box office. Actor-producer Raj B. Shetty's comedy-drama Su From So has emerged as a surprise 100 crore blockbuster, joining an exclusive list of just a handful of Kannada films that have crossed the century mark in global collections. Kannada industry, despite the potential, has been the least successful South Indian film industry in terms of delivering 100 crore movies. And when a film achieves this mark, it becomes a monumental feat worthy of huge celebrations, unlike other industries, where 100 crores becomes the norm. The success of Su From So comes at a time when Kannada cinema was going through a relatively dull phase in 2024, with failure after failure. Released on July 25, the film steadily grew with strong word of mouth, eventually storming past the coveted figure. It is the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year by a long margin. Su From So is only the sixth Kannada film ever to achieve the milestone of 100 crores gross worldwide. This is the first 100 crores Kannada grosser since Rishab Shetty's mega blockbuster Kantara Chapter 1, which was released in September 2022. Have a look at the complete list of 100 crores Kannada grossers - KGF: Chapter 2 (1215 crore) - Yash's magnum opus, directed by Prashanth Neel, remains the biggest ever Kannada film and one of the highest-grossing Indian films in history. It is the only Kannada and one of only eight Indian films to breach the milestone of 1000 crores worldwide. Kantara (408 crore) - Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the divine folklore action-drama shocked trade analysts by becoming a cultural and commercial phenomenon worldwide, and is currently the second biggest Kannada grosser of all-time. KGF: Chapter 1 (237.75 crore) - It was the first Kannada movie to breach the 100 crores milestone worldwide. The film that started the KGF storm, turning Yash into a pan-India superstar and proving Kannada cinema's global potential. 100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box Office Rank Film Title Total Worldwide GBOC Release Year 1.KGF: Chapter 2₹ 1215.00 Cr20222.Kantara₹ 408.00 Cr2022 3.KGF: Chapter 1₹ 237.75 Cr2018 4.Su From So₹ 121+ Cr2025 5.777 Charlie₹ 102.75 Cr2022 6.Vikrant Rona₹ 100+ Cr2022 Note: Overseas collection of 777 Charlie and Vikrant Rona might be underreported as data are not available. (as of September 4, 2025) Su From So (121+ crore) - The latest entrant, Raj B. Shetty's unique blend of comedy and drama, has found massive love from audiences, bringing Kannada cinema back into the spotlight. 777 Charlie (102.75 crore) - The heartwarming dog adventure drama, fronted by Rakshit Shetty, connected with families and animal lovers, pushing it past the century mark. It is hailed as one of the finest films of Kannada cinema in recent times. Vikrant Rona (100+ crore) - Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep's fantasy action entertainer, with its stylish visuals and grand scale, managed to go past 100 crores worldwide. It was one of the most hyped Kannada movies, but the film somewhat underperformed. Even though the success count of Kannada cinema has largely been underwhelming, it now proudly has six worldwide 100 crore grossers, a feat that only a few years ago seemed far-fetched. The trend shows that while mega spectacles like KGF and Kantara set records, even smaller-budget, content-driven films like Su From So can emerge victorious at the box office if backed by strong storytelling and word of mouth. As the industry looks ahead, there are a few films, including Yash's Toxic and Rishab Shetty's Kantara 2, in the making, which are sure to find their place in the biggest Kannada grossers. The industry, however, will hope that more and more tentpole films are put under production to increase the success count.

Box Office: Kantara Overtakes KGF 1 To Become Second Highest-Grossing Kannada Movie

BY SACNILK

Bengaluru, October 27 - Kannada production house, Hombale Films is in competition with itself at the box office. The top three Kannada movies of all time now belong to Hombale Films which first produced a movie in 2014. The three films are - KGF: Chapter 2, Kantara, and KGF: Chapter 1. ## "KGF: Chapter 1" was the first Kannada movie to cross 200 crores mark at the worldwide box office before Chapter 2 came and outdid its predecessor to not only become the biggest Kannada film of all time but also 3rd highest-grossing Indian movie with over 1200 crores worldwide. ## Now, Rishab Shetty's adventure action thriller "Kantara" which no one had expected to reach even 100 crores, has crossed "KGF: Chapter 1" to become the second highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time. It has grossed approx. 240 crores worldwide in 27 days, crossing KGF's approx. 237 crores worldwide. ## "Kantara" has had a far lower opening than "KGF" but thanks to unprecedented audience word of mouth, it has been trending extraordinarily at the box office and this makes it one of the biggest Indian blockbusters in terms of the return. Kantara Becomes Non-KGF Kannada Industry Hit

Bengaluru, October 16 - After becoming a rare 100 crore grosser at the worldwide box office, the latest Kannada sensation Kantara is now behind only Yash-fronted KGF film franchise to emerge as the Non-KGF Kannada industry hit. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has scored approx. 115 crores so far in 16 days, making it the third highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time, after "KGF: Chapter 2", and "KGF: Chapter 1". The adventure action thriller film has overtaken Rakshit Shetty's "777 Charlie" (approx. 103 crores) to become a new non-KGF industry hit.## Interestingly, four out of the top 5 highest-grossing Kannada films of all time have released in 2022 as only KGF-1 was released in 2018. Kichcha Sudeepa's "Vikrant Rona" is the fifth biggest movie in the list with approx. 100 crores worldwide. ## Hombale Films has been churning out some critically acclaimed films that are equally successful at the box office. In a proud moment for the studio, the top three biggest Kannada movies belong to Hombale, headed by Vijay Kirgandur, and this is just the beginning (will bring a report on Hombale's potential blockbuster movies from its announced line-up). ## "Kantara", which is written and directed by Rishab Shetty himself, has an outside chance to beat "KGF: Chapter 1" which grossed approx. 238 crores in its lifetime run. However, the movie will need to show a similar trend for the next couple of weeks and will also need to see through Diwali releases, especially for non-Kannada languages.## Stay tuned...

One Man Believed In KGF And It Created History: Mahesh Manjrekar

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, September 15 - Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar spoke highly about Kannada's blockbuster film franchise KGF and called it the industry-saving film. The filmmaker graced a star-studded event, held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on September 14, where some of the most prominent personalities of Marathi cinema were present. ## Mahesh Manjrekar was speaking in the context of giving more importance to regional cinema and said that the Kannada industry is the prime example of it, which, the filmmaker believed, was changed because of one person. ## "Some years back, the condition of the Kannada film industry was such that it seemed like it would shut down anytime. But there was one person who believed in making a film and spending a lot of money on it. That person (probably referring to producer Vijay Kiragandur) made a film named KGF and it created history.## "What makes me happy is that they didn't make both parts of KGF in Hindi. They shot the film in Kannada, dubbed it in Hindi aur fir audience ke sir ke upar feka!", he said, according to Bollywood Hungama. ## "I envy these guys. I would have loved to do something like this. It is superb", the "Antim" director added. "We have to shout from the rooftops that Marathi cinema is (also) great. There's no dearth of talent when it comes to Marathi cinema. Then what is it that we are lacking? We also need people who believe in our vision. It's crucial that we make big-scale films, that too with conviction and confidence".## The filmmaker further said that investors should also believe in Marathi cinema and its filmmaker like Vijay Kiragandur believed in director Prashanth Neel's vision and Yash's confidence, called KGF. "Somebody has to believe in us and spend money, like the way KGF producers did. I mean, come on, KGF - Chapter 2 collected Rs. 1000 crores! Can you imagine?", he added.## "KGF" was released in 2018 and went on to become the highest-grossing Kannada film of all time before its sequel came in 2022 and shattered box office records at the Pan India level. Released in April 2022, "KGF: Chapter 2" grossed over 1200 crores worldwide, including approx. 1000 crores in India alone. In the Hindi version, "KGF 2" is the second highest-grossing film of all time with a net collection of approx. 435 crores.## Stay tuned...

'KGF: Chapter 2' Outscored Lifetime Business Of 'KGF' In Hindi On Day 1

Mumbai, April 15 - It might sound strange but the fact is, "KGF: Chapter 2" has scored almost 21% more on the first day than the lifetime business of "KGF: Chapter 1" in Hindi. Such has been the euphoria of this Prashanth Neel's directorial that it has shattered all the existing records in Hindi and other regions of the country. ## The Yash-fronted first chapter of "KGF" was released in 2018 and went on to become the biggest grossing Kannada movie of all time. In Hindi, it was Yash's debut outing, which made him a household name in Hindi. The first movie made only 44.42 crores net in Hindi. The movie had taken the opening of just 2.1 crores but built upon strong WOM to finish on a very good note for a dubbed version.## The success of "KGF" in Hindi created a tremendous buzz which has now transformed into blockbuster box office numbers in Chapter 2 as it scored 53.95 crores net on the first day. It has not only outdone the original movie but also become the biggest opener ever in Hindi, beating Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's "War" (51.60 Cr). ## "KGF: Chapter 2" has received extraordinary positive talks from the critics and audiences alike with praise towards the entire cast, especially Yash as Rocky Bhai. Prashanth Neel's direction is hailed as a visionary while the music by Ravi Basrur is the heart and soul of it. We think "KGF2" is one of the most satisfying combinations of music and non-stop action and you will get to know why it is when you watch it on the big screen.## It follows the assassin Rocky, who, after establishing himself as the kingpin of the Kolar Gold Fields, must retain his supremacy against adversaries and government officials, while also coming to terms with his past. Produced by Hombale Films, the movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon, and Prakash Raj in key roles. ## Stay tuned...

'Pushpa: The Rise' Set To Beat 'KGF: Chapter 1' At The Hindi Box Office

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, December 28 - The South Indian films are expanding their wings in the Hindi-speaking market and even edging ahead of most of the outright Bollywood titles. After testing the blockbuster success with "Baahubali" and "KGF", another South Indian film in the form of "Pushpa - The Rise" has emerged as a successful affair in Hindi. ## "Pushpa - The Rise" marks Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's maiden Pan-India outing, and he couldn't have asked for a bigger and better launch in other languages, especially in Hindi. The Sukumar-directed is having a consistent run at the Hindi box office, earning approx Rs. 39.66 crores in the first 11 days, despite the limited shows and tough competition with biggies, likes "83" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home". ## The action-thriller film has shown a tremendous hold at the Hindi box office over the 11 days and didn't drop a single sign of going to the back seat. Before the second week completes, "Pushpa - The Rise" should cross Yash-starrer Kannada film, "KGF: Chapter 1's" lifetime Hindi net total of Rs. 44.42 crores and emerge as the second biggest Hindi (dubbed) launch of a South India actor.## Prabhas's "Baahubali - The Beginning" (2015) is currently the highest-grossing debut Pan-India film in Hindi for a South Indian actor. This record, however, is likely to be shattered by the upcoming SS Rajamouli's "RRR", which is scheduled to release on January 7. ## "Pushpa - The Rise", meanwhile, is likely to continue its strong run before "RRR" arrives, and will aim to cross Rs. 50 crore (looks inevitable) lifetime Hindi total to emerge as a superhit outing. Overall, "Pushpa" currently stands at Rs. 183 crores for all languages, and heading towards Rs. 200 crores net. Worldwide, it has so far grossed Rs. 234 crores. ## Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and Muttamsetty Media, the movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead alongside Fahadh Faasil, Dhananjay, Rao Ramesh, Sunil Varma, and Anasuya Bharadwaj in prominent toles. It is a two-part release and the 2nd part will release in December 2022. ## Stay tuned...

Right after the release of KGF: Chapter One, the duo met Prashanth Neel and discussed the idea of an epic mythological tale in a period set up on a scale like never before. Since Saaho, Prabhas has locked his 20, 21, 22, and 23rd projects with Radhe Shyam, Salaar, Adipurush, and Nag Ashwin's yet-untitled film. ## Apart from the current four films, Prabhas might do one more film before moving onto the biggest and most ambitious 25th project with Dil Raju and Prashanth Neel.
