Tom Holland's 'Uncharted' And Robert Pattinson-Starrer 'The Batman' Set Release Dates In China

Mumbai, February 17 - "Spider-Man: No Way Home" might not have set a release date in China yet, another Tom Holland-fronted movie is going to release in the biggest movie market in the world. ## Sony Pictures' "Uncharted", starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg has been dated for a March 14 release in China. The studio's Weibo account shared the news today with a video message from Holland and Wahlberg and a subtitled trailer, as well as a new poster, according to Deadline. ## Based on Sony's video game series of the same name developed by Naughty Dog, "Uncharted" won't be a day-and-date release with domestic, but it is surely a great sign as Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is facing trouble to get released in China, owing to what amounted to an unofficial ban on Marvel throughout the past year. ## Apart from "Uncharted", the other Hollywood title that gets a release date in China is Warner Bros./DC's "The Batman", starring Robert Pattinson. The superhero film will be released four days after "Uncharted" on March 18. It also becomes the first superhero flick since "Wonder Woman 1984" to get a release in China. ## Hollywood movies are having a tough time in getting a release date in China, but things are looking positive with "Uncharted", and "The Batman". Disney/20th Century's murder mystery "Death On The Nile", headed by Gal Gadot has also a confirmed release date in China on February 19. The aforementioned titles are the only Hollywood movies to have fixed dates in China, as of now.## Stay tuned...

Marvel President Kevin Feige Calls 'Endgame' The Final Avengers Movie

Mumbai, February 17 - Marvel Studios, "Avengers: Endgame", which was released in 2019, may be the final Avengers movie, according to Marvel president Kevin Feige. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, "Endgame" marked the finale of Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) first chapter with the defeat of Thanos. ## The first Avengers movie was released in 2012 as "The Avengers", four years after MCU kicked off with Robert Downey Jr.'s "Iron Man" in 2008. The success of "The Avengers" tempted Marvel Studios to build its own universe which grew over the course of three Phases and the Infinity Saga finally came to an end with "Avengers: Endgame". ## It would take a number of individual Marvel movies before the next Avengers flick, however, Kevin Feige has put an end to the talks of "Avengers 5". During his commentary on Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Eternals (via Comic Book), the MCU boss suggested that they've completed the Infinity Saga with "the final Avengers movie".## "Marvel Studios and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now past their tenth anniversary and with the release of the final Avengers movie, we've finally completed a 22-movie Infinity Saga", Feige said. ## In the grand scheme of things, however, it's difficult to believe that Marvel Studios will no longer produce Avengers movies since the studio is introducing a new cop of superheroes in its Phase 4, which has begun with "Black Widow". It's just that it might take a while before Avengers 5 is officially rolled out.## Stay tuned...

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Beats 'Avatar' To Become 3rd Highest Domestic Box Officer Grosser Ever Hollywood

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Beats 'Avatar' To Become 3rd Highest Domestic Box Officer Grosser Ever

Los Angeles, February 15 - "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is now the 3rd biggest-grossing movie at the domestic (North America) box office, beating James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi epic "Avatar's" $760.5 million. ## The total domestic gross collection of Tom Holland-fronted superhero movie has reached an estimated $760.9 million after collecting $1.6 million on Valentine's Day. There were doubts whether "No Way Home" would be able to beat "Avatar", and now, it can officially be said that it has busted those doubts and done the unimaginable in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic. ## Directed by Jon Watts, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has beaten the odds of the pandemic, however, this box office juggernaut is likely to stop with number 3 as it is unlikely to climb further heights in domestic markets. If it pushes really hard and does something which has never happened before, it will still need approx $100 million to beat "Avengers: Endgame" ($858 million) to reach 2nd spot at the domestic box office, which looks like an uphill task. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($936 million) remains in the first place. ## "Spider-Man: No Way Home", however, has played its part in glorifying the big-screen magic, in fact, it has done more than anyone had predicted at the time of the film's theatrical debut in December 2021. Meanwhile, "No Way Home" is also super strong at the international box office, and is currently the 6th biggest title at the global box office with $1.80 billion, without a single penny from China, which is the biggest movie market. ## "Avatar", meanwhile, may have slipped to 4th spot in the domestic market, it is still the king of the global box office with $2.802 billion, and will easily maintain its position without any trouble. If other movies really don't do something miraculous, only "Avatar 2", which is scheduled to release in December 2022, could come close or beat its preceeder at the worldwide box office. ## Coming back to "No Way Home", the 3rd MCU Spidey flick has shattered many records during its nearly 2-months long box office journey. During the opening weekend alone, the film landed the second-biggest domestic debut in history with $260 million and the third-largest global start ever with $600 million. It also became the first and only title to score $1 billion worldwide during the covid-19 pandemic. ## Stay tuned...

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, the highly-awaited superhero movie will debut in theaters on May 6, 2022, in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. ## On Monday (Feb. 14), Marvel released the full trailer of the sequel of the 2016's film. It is the second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that explores the multiverse concept, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home". "Doctor Strange 2", however, takes deep into the concept where things become messier than "No Way Home". ## In the latest trailer, one can see that Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme is under attack from all sides after he opened that gate of the multiverse in "No Way Home", which goes wrong as several monstrous beings invade the MCU. To deal with that he seeks the help of Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Oleson, however, it is not as easy as it looks. ## Meanwhile, "Doctor Strange 2" is rumored to have many cameos including Captain Marvel. Gal Gadot's 'Death On The Nile' Opens To Number 1 At The Domestic Box Office

Los Angeles, February 13 - Gal Gadot-starrer murder mystery film "Death on the Nile", took an underwhelming start at the domestic box office with $5.1 million on Friday, followed by Jennifer Lopez-Owen Wilson romantic comedy "Marry Me" with $3 million at number 2. ## Disney and 20th Century Studios' "Death on the Nile", based on the famous Agatha Christie novel, is heading towards $12.7 million in its opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office. The opening of the film, however, is only half as much as the opening day gross of its predecessor "Murder on the Orient Express" ($10.7 million) in 2017, which went on to score $102 million domestic gross. ## The Kenneth Branagh-directed cost $90 million in production, and Hollywood trade experts believe that the movie will find it tough to recover the production cost. The movie has faced several delays due to the covid-19 pandemic while the production of the film was greenlit shortly after the release of "Murder on the Orient Express". ## According to Variety, the box office fate of "Death on the Nile" may have seemed prewritten for quite some time now. Many of Disney's projects rooted in the Fox era have been perceived as disappointments, with films like "West Side Story", "The Last Duel" and "The King's Man" coming up short at the box office.## The film is the third screen adaptation of Christie's novel, following the 1978 film and an episode of the television series Agatha Christie's Poirot broadcast in 2004. It stars Gal Gadot, Hercule Poirot, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright in key roles. ## Stay tuned...

'Spider-Man' Best Picture Oscars Snub Disappoints Jimmy Kimmel And Director Kevin Smith

Los Angeles, February 12 - The recently announced nominations for the 94th Academy Awards are being criticized for not picking "Spider-Man: No Way Home", in the Best Picture category. Despite being hailed critically and doing wonders at the box office, "No Way Home" was nominated only for the Best Visual Effects category. ## Jimmy Kimmel called out on Academy on Tuesday's late-night episode and argued that the biggest snub was the movie everyone is going to see, even Academy voters. He also said that "Don't Look Up" was not worthy to be picked for a Best Picture nomination. ## "The biggest snub today in my opinion, and I'm actually even angry about this, I'm kind of embarrassed to say, is the unforgivable omission of Spider-Man: No Way Home", he said. "You're telling me Don't Look Up was better than Spider-Man? It certainly was not", he argued. Kimmel wondered how "No Way Home" didn't get one of the ten nominations this year and called it a "great" movie. ## Among the other people who are not happy with "Spider-Man: No Way Home's" Best Picture snub is director Kevin Smith. On his podcast, FatMan Beyond (via Deadline), Smith did not say which of the ten should be eliminated to make way for Spider-Man.## "I would just like to congratulate the good folks who made Spider-Man: No Way Home for the very deserved Best Picture nomination that I'm sure it got, I didn't read the nods", he said at first, before doing a spit take when he was informed it did not.## "What the f—! They got 10 slots, they can't give one to the biggest f—–g movie of, like, the last three years?" He said it was unfathomable, given that the Oscars ratings are dropping. "Like f—–g make a populist choice, f—, man. You got how many slots? Throw in Spider-Man for God's sakes; let him swing in there. F—–g poor kid's always getting crapped on and s—. Show Peter Parker some f—–g love. I'm not even being facetious, with as many movies as they now nominate for Best Picture…."## The 94th annual Academy Awards will be live at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on ABC Sunday, March 27.## Stay tuned...

Tom Cruise's 'Mission Impossible 7' To Be One Of The Costliest Films Ever

Mumbai, February 12 - The covid-19 pandemic is taking a huge toll on Tom Cruise's long-awaited "Mission Impossible 7" movie. The pandemic has not only forced the makers to push the release multiple times but has also pushed the production budget of this high octane actioner to a whole new level. ## Tom Cruise has performed some of the death-defying stunts in "Mission: Impossible 7", and one of such stunts is, actor driving his motorcycle off a cliff in Norway. Director Christopher McQuarrie said during CinemaCon last year that it was the most dangerous thing he has attempted and Cruise admitted saying that he wanted to do such things since his childhood. ## However, to film those stunts have proved costly for Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media, as the budget of the film has skyrocketed to $290 million (according to Variety), which is way more than what the studios had actually planned. The cost includes the substantial tax incentives that the global production was able to leverage to rein in costs. ## The eye-popping budget of the "MI7" has made it one of the costliest films ever. According to Culture Crave, the action spy film is currently the 6th most expensive movie of all time. "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is the costliest film ever with a budget of $379 million. ## Avengers "Age of Ultron", "Endgame", and "Infinity War" are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most expensive movies with $365 million, $356 million, and $325 million, respectively. "Pirates of the Caribbean: The World's End", and "Justice League" are the 5th most expensive titles with a cost of $300 million each. ## According to Variety sources, a significant factor in this budget escalation is that "Mission: Impossible 7" was initially scheduled to begin shooting in Venice in February 2020, but it had to stop and start production seven different times. ## "Mission: Impossible 7" was supposed to hit screens in September this year, but in January, Paramount announced that it was delaying the release of "Mission: Impossible 7" to July 14, 2023, citing "delays due to the ongoing pandemic". The postponement will also add interest costs to the film's overall budget. Paramount and Skydance also announced that "Mission: Impossible 8" will open on June 28, 2024, instead of its previously announced debut of July 7, 2023.## Stay tuned...

However, the drama film based on real-life incidents, couldn't make it to the list. ## The movies that are nominated for Best International Feature Film, include - "Drive My Car" (Japan), "Flee" (Denmark), "The Hand of God" (Italy), "Lunana: A Yak In The Classroom" (Bhutan), and "The Worst Person In The World" (Norway). ## Meanwhile, the other film that was supposed to make it into the Best Feature Film category, Marvel/Sony's global blockbuster, "Spider-Man: No Way Home", also couldn't find a spot in the nominations. No Way Home was considered a long shot in the best picture race, and Marvel/Sony even started a campaign for Oscars nod over its box office success.## "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is currently playing in theaters and has so far grossed over $1.77 billion globally, there was hope that the Academy would recognize it for helping reinvigorate theater-going. However, despite falling short in the best picture race, "No Way Home" has been nominated in the Best Visual Effect category along with Marvel Studios' "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings".## Films based on comic books have often been ignored at the Oscars in the Best Picture category. However, things have changed in the last couple of years. Marvel Studios' "Black Panther" (2018) and Warner Bros' DC film "Joker" (2019) were nominated for best picture. Earlier, Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" (2008) was nominated in the category. ## Stay tuned...

Warner Bros. Lends In Trouble Over 'Matrix Resurrections' Day-and-Date HBO Max Release

Los Angeles, February 8 - Last year, Walt Disney company faced the heat over Scarlett Johansson's "Black Widow's" day-and-date Disney+ release, which reportedly cost Disney a whopping $40 million to settle the lawsuit filed against it. And now, the same is happening with Warner Bros.## Village Roadshow Pictures, the producers of the recently released science fiction action film, "The Matrix Resurrections", has sued Warner Bros. for breaching the contract. The Keanu Reeves-fronted movie was released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously in December last year, which is the reason behind the lawsuit. ## Village Roadshow Pictures has alleged that Warner Bros. is prioritizing HBO Max to increase streamer's popularity at the cost of movies box office revenue. ## "WB's sole purpose in moving the release date of The Matrix Resurrections forward was to create a desperately needed wave of year-end HBO Max premium subscriptions from what it knew would be a blockbuster film, despite knowing full well that it would decimate the film's box office revenue and deprive Village Roadshow of any economic upside that WB and its affiliates would enjoy, especially as compared to a 2022 exclusive theatrical release", states the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ## Warner Bros. said in a statement, "This is a frivolous attempt by Village Roadshow to avoid their contractual commitment to participate in the arbitration that we commenced against them last week. We have no doubt that this case will be resolved in our favor".## The production company alleged that "The Matrix Resurrections" was supposed to release in 2022, but was moved up by Warner Bros. to boost HBO Max's subscribers. The day-and-date release of The Matrix sequel really put a massive dent in its box office potential as the movie grossed only $37 million domestically. It is also causing huge losses to actors, producers, and other financial partners whose revenue depends on the film's box office numbers. ## Warner Bros. renegotiated contracts tied to box office performance when it announced that it would put its entire slate of 2021 movies onto HBO Max and in theaters. However, according to THR, the lawsuit said no such deal was reached with Village Roadshow over Matrix Resurrections, adding that the rushed release caused it to be rampantly pirated, further hurting its box office returns. ## Stay tuned...

'Moonfall' Director Blams Superhero And Star Wars Films For Ruining The Film Industry

Los Angeles, February 6 - Hollywood filmmaker, Roland Emmerich joins many other actors and filmmakers who believe that the lack of originality in superhero and Star Wars films is ruining the industry. ## The director, whose latest big-budget science fiction disaster film "Moonfall" opened poorly at the box office, has lambasted the state of the movie business because these types (superhero) of movies exist.## While talking about his newest disaster film, he mentions in a conversation with Den of Geek, "Because naturally, Marvel and DC Comics and Star Wars have pretty much taken over. It's ruining our industry a little bit because nobody does anything original anymore".## Emmerich claims to be all about originality and believes that Christopher Nolan is making bold choices when it comes to filmmaking. "You should make bold new movies, you know? And I think, actually, Christopher Nolan is the master of that. He is someone who can make movies about whatever he wants", he said.## Meanwhile, Emmerich's latest venture, "Moonfall", which was shot in Montreal on a $145 million production budget, opened to poor reviews with 40 percent on Rotten tomatoes while its CinemaScore is also weak C+. 'The Batman' Early Box Office Projections Eyeing Biggest Opening Ever For A Batman Movie

Los Angeles, February 5 - After "Spider-Man: No Way Home", Hollywood is gearing up for the next blockbuster in the form of "The Batman", which is just a month away from its debut on March 4. The DC superhero movie is one of the most anticipated films and the hype around it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. ## Starring Robert Pattinson as a new version of the Caped Crusader, "The Batman" is carrying a lot of expectations as far as the box office is concerned. And the early box office projections for "The Batman" is also suggesting it could take the biggest opening for a Batman movie ever. ## According to Box Office Pro, the 2022's first bona fide tentpole is currently tracking to earn between $135-$185 million domestically in its opening weekend while its lifetime box office projection currently stands between $340-$540 million domestically. ## If the movie opens to its higher projection of $185 million, it will be the biggest debut for a Batman movie ever at the domestic box office (North America). Only three "Batman" movies have had opening weekends of over $100 million domestically, the highest of which overall is "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice's" $166 million. Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" sits just behind it at $160 million in the opening weekend. ## Directed by Matt Reeves, "The Batman" is on track to become only the second movie (excluding China) to open over $100 million domestically during the covid-19 pandemic. "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was the first to do. If the Warner Bros. movie opens to its lower end of the projection, it would still place it easily in the top-5 all-time for Batman project. ## The film's cast includes Robert Pattinson as Batman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Real, Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.## Stay tuned...

If it crosses James Cameron-directed, it will become the 3rd biggest Hollywood movie at the domestic box office, behind "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($936M) and "Avengers: Endgame" ($858M). ## At the worldwide box office, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is currently at the 6th spot among the all-time biggest grosser with a $1.73 billion box office total. I feel like I needed to end what I did on it. I would be only satisfied if I could walk away and there was nowhere else for that to go, that someone else would have to come along and invent something completely different. But also because I thought that was a good way for it to continue, and I knew that the only way to make it work was that it had to be based on love, and every time that we've gone emotionally into this, it pays back every time.## Where exactly the James Bond series goes from here remains to be seen. There are already countless names in the hat to take over as the next James Bond – click that link for the biggest actors in contention – while other ideas have circulated online for how the franchise may continue.
