Shah Rukh Khan's Mega Blockbuster 'Jawan' Tops 25 Million Viewing Hours On Netflix

Mumbai, November 15 - Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's mega box office blockbuster Jawan had another solid week (November 6-12) on Netflix as it claimed third spot among the most-watched non-English films worldwide. The film's extended version is streaming after its theatrical release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. ## Directed by Atlee Kumar, the action thriller recorded 10.6 million viewing hours from 3.7 million views for the Hindi version during the week of November 6 - November 12. The movie scored 14.90 million viewing hours from 5.2 million views during its opening weekend upon its release on November 2nd. ## "Jawan" has scored 25.50 million viewing hours from 8.9 million views so far in just 11 days, making it one of the fastest Indian movies to reach 25 million viewing hours on Netflix. The movie is trending in the top 10 in 17 countries, including number 1 in India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and 4 other countries. ## Meanwhile, the Tamil and Telugu extended cuts of the film are also trending in the top 10 on Netflix in India, however, the streamer didn't provide the viewership data for both the dubbed versions. The movie grossed over 1150 crores at the worldwide box office during its theatrical run and was released on OTT after 8 weeks on November 2nd with an extended version. ## Directed by Atlee Kumar, the Hindi version of the action thriller scored 14.9 million viewing hours from 5.2 million views during its opening weekend of November 2 - November 5. It was the 4th most non-English movie worldwide on Netflix during the week of October 30 - November 5. How An Idea Became A Film: The Five-Year Journey Of 83

Mumbai, Dec 26 (IANS) Kabir Khan's Ranveer Singh-starer '83' has been in the making for a long time. The film was initially announced in mid-July 2016, the same year that saw a flurry of cricket biopics such as Tony D'Souza 'Azhar' and Neeraj Pandey's 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. ## It all started with members of the legendary squad meeting at a suburban hotel in Mumbai to mark the anniversary of the celebrated win. ## The 1983 team's skipper, Kapil Dev, along with several other members of the squad, handed over the film after signing an MoU with Phantom Films, co-owned by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena. The film then went into scripting with director and screenwriter Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan taking up the onus of writing. ## Sanjay, who bagged the National Film Award for Best Direction for 'Bahattar Hoorain', sketched the foundation of the script, which was then handed over to Vasan Bala ('Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota', 2019). ## "The foundation of the film was laid by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It came to me as his baby," Bala informed IANS. A close associate of Anurag Kashyap, Bala then added more flavors to the script in terms of perspective. "I worked on Sanjay's base screenplay, added my perspective and tone to it," the director-writer added. ## The film, which was slated to release in 2017, encountered several delays during its journey. ## On October 5, 2018, Phantom Films was dissolved a day before #MeToo allegations against one of its founding members, Vikas Bahl, by one of the women crew members, surfaced. The alleged incident happened during the early hours of May 5, 2015 after a party in a Goa hotel, ahead of Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' release. ## After the dismantling of Phantom Films, Reliance Entertainment, which had acquired a 50 percent stake in Phantom, took the film forward. ## Bala completed the script and shared it with Kabir Khan, who then started work on the mammoth project. "And then I handed it over to Kabir Khan and his team. They took it and carried it to greater heights," Bala remembers. ## The next movement in the '83' clockwork was the casting. Kabir got in touch with the best in the business, Mukesh Chhabra, who then embarked on the journey to cast for the film. ## For Chhabra, "the idea behind casting was that the entire country should connect with each character". The casting director had earlier told IANS: "This film took me more than a year to cast because there were a lot of things that we needed with regards to the actors. They needed to know how to play cricket, and their language and their culture had to match with the corresponding characters." ## Several workshops were organised for the players to develop an understanding of their characters, the iconic shots of the cricketing legends, and the team spirit. Chhabra set up a camp where actors interacted with actual players. ## Once the pre-production and casting was locked, the film's crew swiftly slipped into production mode with principal photography starting on June 5, 2019. Along the way, Deepika Padukone, who plays Kapil Dev's wife Romi, came onboard as co-producer along with Kabir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Vishnuvardhan Induri. ## The film was shot in and around England for three months with a brief schedule in India as well. It was eventually wrapped on October 7, 2019. ## But then came the first wave of the pandemic, followed soon by the second. The contagion gripped major parts of the world, pushing nations into lockdowns. Showbiz suffered like never before, as theatres shut down, forcing the film's crew to wait for almost two years before seeing the light of day. ## The moment arrived on December 22, when the film was first unveiled at a star-studded screening in Mumbai, where practically the entire Bollywood showed up to render support to the big-ticket release. ## With the film garnering a positive response from metro audiences, Vasan is a happy man. "Happy to see it release and people enjoy it," he said, signing off. ##

Playing Madan Lal's wife, who conceived during the 1983 World Cup

Mumbai, Dec 24 (IANS) As much as "83" presents the story of what went on in the field and the dressing room, it also offers a peek into the lives of the players off the field in their personal spaces. ## Just as Deepika Padukone essays the role of Romi Dev, wife of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad's captain, Kapil Dev, multi-lingual actress Wamiqa Gabbi steps into the shoes of Anu Lal, wife of Madan Lal, the medium pacer from Delhi who took three crucial wickets in that historic final. Gabbi's fellow Punjabi actor, Harrdy Sandhu, plays Madan Lal. ## Wamiqa recently spoke to IANS about her association with the film, director Kabir Khan's briefing to her about the part and what the film means to her. Excerpts from the interview. ## Recollecting how she became a part of the film, the actress said: "I remember getting a call from the office of Mukesh Chhabra (the casting director of '83'). They wanted to come and have a word with me. That's when I met them and was convinced at the very first meeting that I wanted to do this part because it was Kabir Khan and the film was about the 1983 Cricket World Cup. It is a historic event!" ## About her pitching for the character, she said: "I was very nervous about playing Anu Lal and I wanted to portray her in the most natural way possible so that people can resonate with the character. I wanted to portray the emotions correctly and I hope people will like what I did." Anu Lal, incidentally, is from the Mohan Meakin family. ## Sharing Kabir Khan's brief to her, Wamiqa said: "The wives of the cricketers appear for a very brief time in the film. He (Khan) explained to me the situation and how this cricketer's wife must be feeling about her husband. It was not just a brief for my character. The film is such that once I heard about what all happened during the World Cup, I automatically understood the situation and acted accordingly." ## She revealed one of the key moments of the story. "This was part of my back story. Anu Lal conceived her first child during the 1983 World Cup and that was big for me," Wamiqa said. "I was like, as a woman she must be feeling so vulnerable, that's the reason you'll see Anu Lal being very vulnerable in the film. These small bits of information about the character really helped." ## Asked what this film means to her career prospects, Wamiqa had an emotional answer. "Well, this film is a celebration of the 1983 World Cup. It's a very special film to me. I didn't think of this film as something that is going to help me in my career. I wanted to do this film, I wanted to be a part of this film because of its content, the message that it was trying to convey and celebrate." ## She added: "The kind of work that I am doing in the future, that's the kind of work that will set the bar audience expectations. '83' is a very special film. I have done this film for completely different reasons and I am so proud to be a part of it. Shershaah Premiere: Sidharth Malhotra And Kiara Advani Starrer Screened At PVR In Delhi Ahead Of Digital Release

Delhi, August 10, 2021: It was the day of the big screen premiere of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer, Shershaah, ahead of its worldwide release on August 12 on Amazon Prime Video. Rhea Chakraborty Names Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh, Mukesh Chhabra In NCB Interrogation Of Drug Case

The Sushant Singh Rajput death case has taken a dramatic turn with the new revelations of drug angle after Rhea Chakraborty's WhatsApp chat got revealed which led the Narcotics Control Bureau to begin the investigation.## Soon after NCB started the investigation, it has arrested Rhea, along with her brother Showik Chakraborty, Sushant's house manager Dipesh Sawant and a few drug peddlers in connection with the drug angle linked to Sushant's death. ## In the latest development in the drug-related angle, according to Zee News, the actress has reportedly confessed before the central probe agency that actress Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh along with designer Simone Khambatta, Sushant's friend and former manager Rohini Iyer, and filmmaker Mukesh Chhabra consumed narcotics substance. ## Rhea in her confession told NCB that Sara who is the daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, had accompanied Sushant Singh Rajput and other friends to Thailand. It is to be noted that Rhea while speaking to a news channel, had stated that Sushant used to live his life like a king-size and had spent Rs 70 lakh on an all-boys' trip to Thailand. ## Earlier this month, Sushant's friend Samuel Haokip had claimed that Sushant and Sara were in love with each other during the 'Kedarnath' shoot.## Zee News also claimed that Rhea told the agency that 80 percent of Bollywood stars are on drugs. There are also reports that NCB is set to summon 25 prominent Bollywood stars in the drug investigations. Filmmaker Karan Johar To Be Questioned By Mumbai Police In Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case

In the latest development under the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Mumbai Police have asked Dharma Productions owner Karan Johar to record his statement before Mumbai Police this week. Mumbai Police will also record Dharma Production CEO Apoorva Mehta's statement on Tuesday in the Sushant's case.## Earlier in the day, director Mahesh Bhatt recorded his statement. Mr. Bhatt reached the Santacruz police station at 11:30 AM and recorded his statements before Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Trimukhe.## Apart from Mahesh Bhatt, Karan Johar's manager and actor Kangana Ranaut have been asked to join investigations into the case, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Sunday. ## Kangana Ranaut who has been very vocal in this case and even alleged that Sushant Singh Rajput was a victim of nepotism in the film industry, has also been summoned by the Bandra police, which is investigating the case. She is currently in Himachal Pradesh since March 17, has requested police to send a team to the state to record her statement in person.## Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging in his apartment in Mumbai on June 14.
