'Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2' Crosses 100 Crores Gross At The Tamil Nadu Box Office

Chennai, May 7 - Mani Ratnam's historical action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 is continuing with its strong performance at the domestic as well as overseas box office. ## The second and final part of "Ponniyin Selvan" is nearing 300 crores, currently stands at around 282 crores in 9 days, at the worldwide box office, and is likely to reach there by today or tomorrow. The first part, which was released in September last year, grossed close to 500 crores worldwide and the second part is also turning out to be a big money spinner. ## Meanwhile, "PS-2" has crossed 100 crores gross collection in Tamil Nadu, becoming the 3rd film of the year to do so after Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" and Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu". Mani Ratnam's directorial reached the 100 crores mark on its 9th day and currently stands at a little over 102 crores. ## "PS-1" had taken just 5 days to breach the 100 crores gross mark and went on to gross over 200 crores in Tamil Nadu. Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan Part - 2' Release Date Revealed

Chennai, November 4 - Maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam's period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan Part - 1 was released in September this year and broke many box office records. Chennai, October 17 - Mani Ratnam's period action drama Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has become the 3rd highest-grossing Indian movie of 2022, after crossing the biggest Bollywood grosser of the year Brahmastra Part 1 - Shiva in just 17 days.## Ponniyin Selvan - 1, which is already the second highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, has so far grossed around 440 crores worldwide in 17 days. Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra has grossed 430 crores worldwide and is now the 4th biggest Indian movie of the year. ## The top two films are KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR with approx. 1,210 crores and 1,115 crores, respectively. Chennai, October 14 - Mani Ratnam's mega-blockbuster movie Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has become the biggest-grossing movie of all-time in Tamil Nadu state, after beating Kamal Haasan's all-time blockbuster Vikram, which was released in June this year. ## "Ponniyin Selvan", which is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, has surpassed the total lifetime collection of "Vikram" in Tamil Nadu in just 15 days. The Lokesh Kangaraj-directed movie grossed 180.57 crores, and with today's collection, "PS-1" has reached approx. 182 crores in the home state. Chennai, October 1 - The cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan has brought up the charm to the box office. ## Directed by maverick Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 records the biggest opening for a Tamil movie at the worldwide box office. The movie grossed ₹ 42.8 crores at the domestic box office, including ₹ 26.95 crores in Tamil Nadu alone for all languages. Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 Opening Day Box Office Prediction

Chennai, September 29 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam returns to the direction after 4 years with the magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. The first part of this epic period action film is scheduled to release on September 30 in multiple languages, and needless to say, there is a huge curiosity among the audience to witness the cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's legendary 1955 novel of the same name. ## "Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1" is one of the biggest films ever from Tamil cinema, in terms of budget and scale. Chiyaan Vikram's 'Dhruva Natchathiram' To Release In December 2022?

Chennai, August 25 - Tamil star Chiyaan Vikram's last theatrical film was "Kadaram Kondan" in 2019, and since then, he has had only one release in the form of "Mahaan", and it was direct to release via Amazon Prime Video in February this year. ## Chiyaan Vikram is now gearing up for his big screen comeback with the upcoming movie "Cobra", scheduled to release on August 31. It is not the only film of him releasing in theaters this year as filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, "Ponniyin Selvan: I", in which he is playing the role of a prince Aditya Karikalan, is also scheduled for September 30. ## While the aforementioned films are confirmed to release, if all goes well, the actor could have his third theatrical release this year. According to reports, Vikram's long-awaited "Dhruva Natchathiram" is progressing to release in December this year. The film has had its trouble in completing the shoot and finally, there is some movement regarding this one. ## It is said that after promotional work for Cobra and Ponniyin Selvan, Chiyaan Vikram will be shooting for the pending portions of "Dhruva Natchathiram" as the makers have decided to release it this year itself. Filmmaker Mani Ratnam Reveals The Story Behind The Making of His Dream Project 'Ponniyin Selvan'

Chennai, July 9 - The teaser of filmmaker Mani Ratnam's highly-anticipated Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 was unveiled on July 8. Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, the movie is Mani Ratnam's dream project which he has been trying to make since the 1980s. ## During the teaser launch event, the filmmaker revealed the story behind the making of the film which will be made in two parts. He said that before finally succeeding, he attempted this mega project thrice, once in the 1980s, then in 2000, and for the third time in 2010. Several people had also tried to make eminent writer Kalki's epic novel into a film but couldn't succeed. ## "I first read this book when I was in college. Almost 40 years have passed. It's not left my heart until now. My first thanks go to Kalki", Mani Ratnam said at the grand teaser launch event organized by the makers at the Chennai Trade Centre on Friday. ## "Makkal Thilagam M.G. Ramachandran should have acted in this film. After Nadodi Mannan, he was to act in this film. But somehow, that didn't happen. It is only today that I got to know why he was not able to act. He has left it for us to make. Several people have tried to make Kalki's epic novel Ponniyin Selvan into a film. I myself have tried thrice - once in the 1980s, once in 2000, and once in 2010. Therefore, I know what a big responsibility this is", he added. ## "That is because it is loved by everybody who has read it. They are an authority on it. They own it, and they are very possessive about it. So, when I did this film, I said to myself. 'I am also like them.
