I Was Trying To Fake My Intensity A Bit Recently: Virat Kohli

Mumbai, August 27 - Team India's star batter Virat Kohli will be making his comeback in the match against Pakistan after taking a break. Virat has endured a bit of a rough patch of late and was rested for the tours of the West Indies and Zimbabwe. ## Ahead of his return to cricket in the Asia Cup 2022, the former Indian captain spoke candidly about his recent struggles and how they took a toll on him mentally. Virat admitted that he was battling mental issues and was faking to be strong. ## "For the first time in 10 years, I didn't touch my bat for a month", said Kohli while speaking to Star Sports. "When I sat down and thought about it I was like, 'wow, I haven't touched a bat for like 30 days'. I haven't ever done that in my life. I came to the realization that I was trying to fake my intensity a bit recently. I was convincing myself that no, you had the intensity. But your body is telling you to stop. Your mind is telling me to take a break and step back". ## "I understand what Ravi Bhai (Ravi Shastri) has mentioned (about taking a break). He's mentioned about the workloads as well, the volume of cricket, and how I played 40 or 50% more in the last 10 years than everybody else. It's very easy to ignore all these things. I'm looked at as a guy who has been mentally very strong and I am. But everyone has a limit and you need to recognize that limit, otherwise, things can get unhealthy for you", he added. ## Virat will be playing his 100th T20I when India will start its campaign in the Asia Cup against Pakistan on Sunday (August 28). He has been India's premier batter over the most part of his career but things were not going his way for the last couple of years and was struggling to convert his start into the big scores. ## "I have always been a guy who follows his heart from day one. I never wanted or tried to be someone else, which in this recent phase I have been. I have tried to keep up with the demands and the expectations, not really felt my inner being completely, which this phase allowed me to do. I was experiencing that I'm not excited to train, I wasn't excited to practice, and that really disturbed me because this is not who I am, and I literally needed to step away from that environment". ## The star India batter added that the month-long break helped him rejuvenate and rediscover his love for training. "When you are involved in such an environment, you are unable to see anything. When you remove yourself from there, then you realize what was happening to you. And this has been an amazing break. I never had this long a break and the first thing I realise was that I woke up in the morning and was excited to go to the gym". ## The 33-year-old expressed that he was kind of the person who would go to any level to make his team but that not happening in recent times.## "That was not happening naturally. I was having to push myself. I didn't know it... I had become this ideal kind of sportsperson to look up to. I get so grateful for the fact that so many people get inspired because of me, but you can't stop being a human being because of that. I understand why people love you and support you, it's because you were yourself always, and even in these moments, I'm not shy to admit that I was feeling mentally down and this is a very normal thing to feel", he said. ## "I'm a human at the end of the day and that should be a thing or a space for people to say, 'If he can experience this, relax it's normal to feel this way'. It's not abnormal, talk about it and discuss it with people. No one will think you are weak".## "You will get help from people you never imagined, but we don't speak because we are hesitant. We don't want to be looked at as mentally weak. Trust me, faking to be strong is far worse than that. I'm not feeling any shame that I was feeling mentally weak", he concluded. ## Stay tuned...

'He Gets 50 In The First Game, Mouths Will Be Shut', Ravi Shastri On Virat Kohli

Mumbai, August 24 - Recently, Virat Kohli has been the target of critics due to his average performance, and was also in danger of being dropped from the T20 team. Talking about this, former Indian team coach Ravi Shastri said that Virat Kohli's 50 in the very first match of the Asia Cup will shut everyone's mouth. One innings is enough for him to get back in form.## In an interview with Star Sports, Ravi Shastri replied about Virat Kohli's place in the T20 team that there is no fitter cricketer than him, he is a machine. And if he recovers his mind, then one innings is enough for him to get back in form.## "It is not rocket science. Mental fatigue can creep into the best in the world. This downtime was not just needed for his body but to reflect. He will come back with a much calmer mind. He gets 50 in the first game, the mouth will be shut, Public memory is very short and works both ways", Ravi Shastri said.## He further said, "There is no cricketer fitter than him. People keep saying one innings can make a difference but with a player like Kohli, it makes a massive difference. His hunger and passion remain undiminished. He would have learned from this phase let me tell you that".## On the question of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma batting aggressively in the Asia Cup, Ravi Shastri said, "Why not? They are very experienced players, they have played enough IPL and T20s and it should not be tough for them to adjust. With Rishabh, Hardik, Jadeja there is enough depth in the middle and lower order to get the innings back on track if the top order falls cheaply".## Let us tell you that Virat Kohli will play against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on the 28th, a month after the England tour. He was recently rested from the West Indies and Zimbabwe series. After India's early exit in the T20 World Cup last time, this time the country's eyes will be on the team's top players in the continental tournament.## Stay tuned...

IANS Review: '83' delivers an unforgettable experience (IANS Rating: ****)

Film: '83' (Showing in theatres); Duration: 163 minutes. ## Director: Kabir Khan. Cast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Neena Gupta, Boman Irani, Ammy Virk, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Adinath Kothare and Dhairya Karwa. ## IANS Rating: **** ## New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Director Kabir Khan's ‘83' is a recreation of a momentous event - the Indian cricket team's first-ever World Cup victory in 1983. Despite being predictable, the film offers an exhilarating and occasionally touching experience that has viewers leaving the auditorium caught up in an afterglow of excited patriotism. ## The film mounted like a brilliantly restored or recreated documentary, captures the three and a half months of - 'the may or may not win' drama, where the actors and few of the actual players seamlessly weave in and out of the narrative. ## The film focuses only on cricket and has everything that cricket fans could have possibly hoped for. The narrative- highlights and flashes the crucial matches and the moments in-between them, bringing back memories to the big screen after nearly 38 years. ## As you are transported back in time, you witness how the 'underdog' Indian team was treated with disdain, and despite all odds, how they emerged as winners. It is invigorating to witness the matches once again and your mood swings like Kapil's bat. You cheer for him when he creates history with a fabulous 175- not out against the Zimbabwe team, and your blood boils when you realise that the legendary game was not recorded on camera because BBC did not think it was important enough. ## What you see on screen is Kapil's charisma, the locker-room banter, the occasional tension and problematic behaviour between the teammates, the strategy they planned during the matches and above all, the anguish and thrills of the matches played during that unforgettable summer. ## Casting is another aspect of the film that could not have been better either. Ranveer with his prosthetic dentures- oddly resembles Kapil Dev, but he slips into his shoes effortlessly delivering a brilliant performance that tugs at the heartstrings. While he emulates the captain of the team, Saqib Saleem plays Mohinder Amarnath, Tahir Raj Bhasin essays Sunil Gavaskar, Jatin Sarna is Yashpal Sharma, Jiiva is K. Srikkanth, Harrdy Sandhu is Madan Lal, Nishant Dahiya is Roger Binny, Ammy Virk plays Balwinder Sandhu, Addinath Kothare is Dilip Vengsakar, Dhairya Karwa is Ravi Shastri, Chirag Patil is Sandip Patil. ## Boman Irani as the commentator Farrokh Engineer, Pankaj Tripathi as PR Man Singh, Neena Gupta as Kapil's caring and supportive mother, and Deepika Padukone as Kapil's wife Romi have their moments of on-screen glory. ## The film is astutely mounted, with ace production values. ## Overall, the narrative - like most of Kabir Khan's films - is unabashedly manipulative, but this one delivers a cinema experience one won't be able to forget about anytime soon. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Virat Kohli To Give Up T20I Captaincy After 2021 T20 World Cup

Mumbai, September 16, 2021: Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli announced that he will step down as T20I captain after the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE. It was recently reported in TOI that Virat is considering giving up the captaincy of the limited-overs cricket. Virat, however, will continue to remain captain in ODIs and Tests. ## "I have been fortunate enough to not only represent India but also lead the Indian Cricket Team to my utmost capability. I thank everyone who has supported me in my journey as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team. I couldn't have done it without them - the boys, the support staff, the selection committee, my coaches, and each and every Indian who prayed for us to win", Virat said in a statement shared on Twitter.## Kohli further said that it is the heavy workload that made him take this decision. While taking this tough call, Virat states that he discussed with vice-caption Rohit Sharma and coach Ravi Shastri on length. "I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward", he continued.## "Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi Bhai and also Rohit, who has been an essential part of the leadership group, I've decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October", he added. ## "I have also spoken to the secretary Mr. Jay Shah and the President of BCCI Mr. Sourav Ganguly along with all the selectors about the same. I will continue to serve Indian Cricket and the Indian Team to the best of my ability", Virat concluded.## 🇮🇳 ❤️ pic.twitter.com/Ds7okjhj9J— Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) September 16, 2021 ## Virat Kohli has had tremendous success in T20Is. Under his leadership, India won series in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) as well as in Sri Lanka and West Indies. The forthcoming T20I World Cup, which is starting in UAE next month, will be Kohli's first and last major T20I tournament, and it will be the cherry on the cake if he manages to win the cup. ## Stay tuned...

Rohit Sharma Could Be In Danger Of Injuring Himself Again If He Is Not Careful: Ravi Shastri Said Based On Medical Report

Team India head coach Ravi Shastri revealed that Rohit Sharma's injury is more serious than it looks and he "could be in danger of injuring himself again if he is not careful". Giving the example of himself, Shastri advised team India's vice-captain to take proper rest and not to rush his comeback. ## Rohit Sharma, who suffered a hamstring injury during a match in the ongoing IPL in the UAE, has also been left out of the team India squad from the Australia tour after BCCI's medical team found his injury serious. However, on the day of team selection, Rohit was seen practicing in the nets for the Mumbai Indians, which has led to speculation over his fitness status.## Shastri said the call not to include Rohit in the squad was taken by the selectors after going through his medical report. "It's being handled by the people in charge of the medical part of it. We don't get involved in that. They have submitted a report to the selectors and they have gone about their business", Shastri told Times Now. ## "I have no say, neither am I a part of the selection. All I know is the medical report which says he could be in danger of injuring himself again if he is not careful," he added. ## Also Read - MCG To Allow Maximum 25K Spectators For Boxing Day Test Between Australia And India## Shastri further advised Rohit not to make the same mistake he made when he went back to Australia in 1991 despite not been fully fit and that mistake cost him the rest of his career.## "There is nothing more frustrating for a player than getting injured. Sometimes you know, you want to get out of that room of yours and try and see how quickly you can come back. And therein lies the grey area. Therein lies the problem where you want to go and play, you want to test yourself. But only you will know at the back of your mind whether you are 100%, whether there is a chance going at it again", he said. ## "What I fear, I have been through that as a cricketer myself. I finished my career in 1991 when I went back to Australia when I shouldn't have. If I had taken a break for three or four months, I could've played five years longer for India".## "So, I speak from experience. It is a similar case. I wanted to go. Doctors told me don't go. It was greed. I was in tremendous form so there was this eagerness to go back. I hope Rohit's case is not that serious and the same with Ishant (Sharma)", he further told. ## The Team India tour of Australia, which comprises three T20Is, three ODIs, and four Tests is scheduled to start from November 27, to begin with, T20Is. Shastri said that team will miss both Rohit and Ishant who played crucial roles on the previous tour. ## "Both Ishant and Rohit will be missed in Australia. Both were missed in New Zealand too. Ishant played a huge role in our win last time (in Australia) and Rohit played a huge role in the home series against South Africa (last year). Both these players have had a huge role to play for us to be at the top of the WTC standings".## Stay tuned...

"2014 England Tour Was A Milestone In My Career", Kohli Reveals How 2014 Tour Changed Him As A Player

Team India captain Virat Kohli revealed that the England tour of 2014 which is by far Kohli's worst by statistically in which he could score only 134 runs in 10 innings proved to be a milestone in his career which helped him to change his approach and mindset. And when 4 years later, Kohli returned for his toughest challenge, he looked a completely different player altogether. ## Ever since the 2014 England tour, Virat Kohli's stats as a batman skyrocketed. He has played 57 Test matches (94 innings) and piled on 5,385 including 593 runs in 5 Tests on 2018 England tour since the fifth and last Test match against England at The Oval in 2014 which speaks a lot about his determination.## "2014 will be a milestone in my career", Kohli told Mayank Agarwal in a Web Chat Show on BCCI.tv. "Lot of people take good tours as a milestone. That tour of 2014 will always be the milestone in my career. From where I thought things might go bad for me very soon because the next big tour was Australia. I had to sit down and change the way I thought and approached the game".## "I started being more fearless, not in situations which sort of seemed easy, like in white-ball cricket, you invariably knew what the situation was. You prepared yourself, you get motivated very easily. But Test cricket, when it gets tough, to maintain your composure is the most difficult thing for a cricketer. That is something I really needed to correct".## From 2014 to 2018 – How Virat Kohli turned it around 💪@imVkohli chats with @mayankcricket on how he put behind his failures in England with technical inputs from @sachin_rt and @RaviShastriOfc and came out all guns blazing in 2018 🙌👌Full video 📽️👉 https://t.co/yNMw87SR4z pic.twitter.com/m6zCPftcTC— BCCI (@BCCI) July 24, 2020 ## Virat Kohli, however, credits Team India coach Ravi Shastri for his success as a batsman on the 2018 England tour and the tours happened after 2014. He revealed that soon after the 2014 England tour, Shastri (who was Team India director then) called him and Shikhar Dhawan to his room and suggested them to make some changes in their techniques. Kohli who went to England as captain of the team this time obviously followed what Shastri's advised, and what happened next is well known. ## "Well, it was after the England tour in 2014. He (Shastri) called me and Shikhar to his room. He called for a bat as well. He has such a keen understanding of the game. Because from a lower-order player to opening the batting for India and averaging 40-plus and scoring hundreds almost everywhere in the world, you have to have a good understanding of the game".## Kohli also revealed that How Shastri's suggestions of standing outside the crease helped him to deal with the pacers.## "Ravi Bhai asked me if I was afraid of the short ball. I said no. Then he said 'good, then stand outside the crease'. I said I am willing to get hit but not get out. Before the tour game in 2018, Ravi Bhai saw me practicing and asked me again why I was not standing outside the crease. So, I went back into the nets and did about 40 minutes of standing outside the crease. It was absolute chalk and cheese."## "I was so much more in control. I was in control of the space that I was playing in. I would play with conviction of the front foot also play the short ball from the same base. The results were there to see", He said. ## Stay tuned...

Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri have backed me a lot: Hardik Pandya

Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is arguably one of the most talented and flamboyant players in India at the moment. His ability to turn the game in the matter of just a few balls makes him stand apart from the others. ## However, Hardik's international career hasn't had a great start. He used to concede a lot of runs which had often lend him and the team in trouble. He revealed that during the Australia tour in 2016 in which he made his international debut with T20I in Adelaide, he went on to concede 26 runs off 8 balls and that left him fearing his career. ## "I conceded 26 runs from my first 8 balls and frankly thought my career was over. When I was hit for a huge six, almost 105-110m, I thought I was done. I felt it couldn't get worse than this and thankfully I managed to snare a couple of wickets," he said, speaking to Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz in Conversation.## Hardik Pandya who made his international debut under the captaincy of MS Dhoni has played most of his cricket under the leadership of Virat Kohli. Reflecting the beauty of the current Indian team, Hardik said that the current Indian captain and coach have backed him a lot during the tough times.## "I think he (MS Dhoni) wanted me to learn from my own experiences. Virat and Ravi Bhai (Shastri), they have given me that freedom, not just to me, but for everyone in the team. That's the beauty of this current Indian team, we have all made mistakes, but we are also learning at a very rapid pace. Those two have backed me a lot."## While cricket has given Hardik so much to appreciate, he has also had his fair share of criticism because of his off-field behavior. One such incident happened when he along with KL Rahul appeared on the Koffee with Karan show - that saw him being suspended along with Rahul for a few matches. The talented all-rounder has now opened up on the learnings from the incident.## “When that happened, I said to myself let's just accept it and try to correct the mistake. If I would've not accepted that mistake, that part would have still been in me. That phase does not bother me anymore because my family has accepted it,” he said.## Hardik, calling himself a family guy, said that his family is his backbone and without them, his existence holds no importance. He also revealed that after the Koffee with Karan controversy, his family got abused which hurt him the most. ## “I'm a family guy. Without family, I am no one. My family is my backbone. The Hardik Pandya you're seeing right now is because of the people behind the scenes, looking after me. They make sure that I am mentally stable and I stay happy".## “My family got abused. My father gave an interview post the incident and people made a mockery of it. What hurt me the most was my action caused my family problems, and that's not acceptable,” Hardik said.## Stay tuned...
