'Black Panther' Sequel Is On Track For Scheduled Release Despite Delayed Production

Los Angeles, January 15 - Marvel Studios' highly anticipated sequel to "Black Panther" is on track for the scheduled release in November 2022, despite the delayed production. The production of the film got halted due to the injury of British actress, Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri in the film. ## On Friday, Letitia resumed shooting for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", almost five months after being injured when a stunt went wrong. At the time of injury in August 2021, it looked she would be resuming work soon but the recovery took longer than the expected time which led to the postponement of the production in November. ## Wright's Princess of Wakanda character is expected to play a bigger part in the blockbuster's sequel. The late Chadwick Boseman led the 2018 film and his role has not been re-cast following his death in 2020. ## While the release dates of 2022 Marvel Movies were already postponed due to the production changes, it was reported that "Black Panther 2" could be further delayed due to Letitia's injury. However, this is not the case as production resumed on schedule and the movie is also very much on track for its 11 November 2022 release. ## Wright's spokesperson told BBC News, "Filming resumed this month as planned and we're on schedule".## "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is one of the most anticipated films coming in 2022. The original "Black Panther" was a major hit on both, critically and commercially front. Warner Bros. India Confirmed 'The Batman' Release Date

Mumbai, January 14 - Warner Bros. Pictures India has once again confirmed the release date of its most anticipated superhero film "The Batman". Despite the covid-19 third wave, the studio announced that the movie will be released as scheduled along with its domestic release on March 4, 2022. ## "The Batman", starring Robert Pattinson as Gotham City's enigmatic protector, will be one of the first major Warner Bros. films to have an exclusive theatrical release during the covid-19 pandemic. ICYDK, Warner Bros. had sent its entire 2021 slate day and date on the streamer and in theaters. ## Meanwhile, the movie has landed a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association in North America, despite speculation the Warner Bros. movie could be rated R for its strong and violent language. Kevin Smith Recalls Writing Failed 'Superman' Movie For Ben Affleck

os Angeles, Jan 9 (IANS) Filmmaker Kevin Smith spoke in detail about an unsuccessful attempt to get a 'Superman' movie off the ground with Hollywood star Ben Affleck in the title role.## Smith was the inaugural guest on Yahoo Entertainment's 'The Never-Weres' series, reports variety.com. Both men were coming off the success of 'Mallrats' at the time.## Warner Bros. was in development on a new 'Superman' movie titled 'Superman Reborn', but Smith thought the screenplay was "terrible". That's when Smith pitched his own 'Superman' movie based on 'The Death of Superman' comic series. Smith's script went into development with producer Jon Peters, but the two clashed overcasting.## "I was writing it for Affleck," Smith said.## "Ben was heating up. Like he was there. I think he'd been hired for 'Armageddon'. Affleck, he's a f***ing giant, like he's built like a superhero, built like a giant action figure, particularly with the height. And then he puts on the muscles there too. So in my head and heart, it was always Ben and Michael Rooker".## Smith wanted Affleck for Superman and Rooker for the villainous role of Lex Luther, but Peters had a different idea. The Hollywood producer wanted to cast Sean Penn as Superman, as the actor was hot off an Oscar nomination for Best Actor thanks to his role in the 1995 drama 'Dead Man Walking'.## "(Jon Peters) goes, 'Look in (Penn's) eyes in that movie, he's (got) haunted eyes, the eyes of a killer'", Smith said.## "And I was like, 'Dude, it's Superman. You know, that's not how most people think of Superman. But he wanted to reinvent it. He wanted something gritty, graphic, and grown-up. He essentially wanted like what Zack Snyder eventually did (in 'Man of Steel' 'Batman v Superman' and 'Justice League,' which coincidentally featured Affleck as Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Superman)'".## Tim Burton eventually took over the reins of 'Superman Lives' and set Nicolas Cage to star. Oprah Winfrey Producing Apple Documentary On Sidney Poitier

Los Angeles, Jan 9 (IANS) A documentary about the career and life of the late Sidney Poitier, the first Black man to win an Oscar, the Bahamanian thespian and diplomat, is in production at Apple.## A source close to the project has confirmed to variety.com. Oprah Winfrey is attached as executive producer for the Apple Original Films release.## Apple and Winfrey have been in production on the documentary for more than a year. Poitier's family is participating in the project.## The documentary comes from Harpo Productions and Network Entertainment. Reggie Hudlin will serve as a director. Hudlin's previous directorial credits include 90's films like 'House Party' and 'Boomerang', as well as episodes of TV series like 'The Last O.G.' and 'Black Monday'.## He is also a prolific producer across film and television, serving as a regular executive producer for the NAACP Image Awards since 2013. Hudlin directed the 2019 documentary 'The Black Godfather', which examines the life of music producer Clarence Avant.## Hudlin is also already executive producing two other projects for Apple TV Plus.## He will direct 'Number One on the Call Sheet', a documentary that examines the history of Black leading men in Hollywood. He is attached to a sister documentary about Black leading women, which Shola Lynch is set to direct.## Poitier, an accomplished performer, producer, and director and the first Black winner of the Academy Award for best actor died on Friday at the age of 94.## "To us, Sidney Poitier was not only a brilliant actor, activist, and a man of incredible grace and moral fortitude, he was also a devoted and loving husband, a supportive and adoring father and a man who always put family first," Poitier's family said in a statement.## "Although he is no longer here with us in this realm, his beautiful soul will continue to guide and inspire us. This record-breaking juggernaut had begun in August 2021 with the first trailer of the film. The trailer had received an unprecedented response all across the globe which helped it to break the 24-hours all-time viewership record. ## The trailer racked up 355.5 million views worldwide, far outpacing previous record-holder Avengers: Endgame, which boasted 289 million views for its inaugural trailer over its first 24 hours. Sony Extends Theatrical Window For 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' For Two More Months

Mumbai, January 8 - "Spider-Man" fans in India will have to wait for a longer period to watch "Spider-Man: No Way Home" on the digital platform after the theatrical window of this global blockbuster has been extended in the country. The Tom Holland-fronted, which has grossed over Rs. 260 crores in India so far, will continue to play exclusively in theaters for at least two more months. ## Vivek Krishnani, Managing Director, Sony Pictures Films India says, "The fact that this is the biggest post-pandemic global hit indicates that the audiences are ready to return to theatres if the film in question offers them everything they are looking for. 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' did exactly that".## He adds, "Even though the franchise already had an enviable fan base, the film exceeded everybody's expectations with a staggering star cast, scaled up, breathtaking action, and multiple twists that took the fans by complete surprise and took their breath away. Cate Blanchett To Star In Pedro Almodovar's Maiden English Feature

Los Angeles, Jan 8 (IANS) Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett will be starring in Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's maiden English-language feature film, 'A Manual for Cleaning Women'.## The film is an adaptation of Lucia Berlin's short story collection of the same name, which includes 43 stories about women in multiple types of demanding jobs, reports variety.com.## It was confirmed to Variety exclusively that the project is in the early stages of development, with Blanchett's production company Dirty Films producing the feature for New Republic Pictures, in association with El Deseo.## Andrew Upton and Coco Francini are producing alongside Blanchett for Dirty Films. 2022 Sundance Film Festival Will Be A Virtual Event Because Of Omicron

Los Angeles, Jan 6 (IANS) The Sundance Film Festival, scheduled to take place at Park City, Utah, from January 20 to 30, has scrapped its plans for an in-person gathering for 2022. It will now be presented as an exclusively virtual event because of the Omicron surge.## "Despite the most ambitious protocols, the Omicron variant with its unexpectedly high transmissibility rates is pushing the limits of health safety, travel and other infrastructures across the country," 'Variety' quoted from a statement issued by the organizers.## The statement noted: "The festival's in-person Utah elements will be moving online this year. Omicron Shadow Over Grammys: Show Postponed

Los Angeles, Jan 6 (IANS) The Grammy Awards have been postponed due to coronavirus-related concerns, an Academy spokesperson has confirmed to 'Variety'. No new date has been confirmed as of yet.## The 2022 show, scheduled for January 31, had been moving full speed ahead before a full audience at its traditional venue, the Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as the Staples Center) in downtown Los Angeles, but the recent Covid-19 surge has caused the postponement or cancellation of multiple events across the country.## Sources have told 'Variety' that even though the Crypto.com Arena has a basketball or hockey game or a concert booked nearly every night until mid-April, a number of artistes and executives are said to have reservations about appearing in person. This is what has led to the postponement of the music world's most important show.## The Recording Academy and its television partner, CBS, said in a joint statement: "Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music's Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon".## The Grammys generate millions of dollars in revenue, but they drew only a fraction of a normal year's earnings in 2021 when the event was first postponed and then pared down considerably.## The 2022 Grammy nominees list is led by Jon Batiste with 11 nods, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. with eight each. Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo follow with seven nominations apiece.
