Gal Gadot Defends Her Casting As Cleopatra Against Whitewashing Charges

Israeli origin Hollywood star Gal Gadot has responded to criticism over her casting as Cleopatra in a new film on the life of the Egyptian queen.## In an interview with BBC Arabic, Gadot was reminded that a section of Egyptian viewers were of the opinion that her casting as Queen Cleopatra is another instance of whitewashing in Hollywood, reports eonline.com.## "First of all, if you want to be true to the facts, then Cleopatra was Macedonian. We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn't there. And I was very passionate about Cleopatra", she replied.## "To me, as a people's lover, and I have friends from across the globe, whether they're Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddhist or Jewish, of course", said the actress, adding, "People are people. Filmmaker Patty Jenkins says she is hoping to use her upcoming film, Wonder Woman 1984, to add to the conversation on how each of us can discover the hero within. The $200 million-budget superhero adventure was originally supposed to release earlier this year but got delayed repeatedly amid the COVID crisis. Finally, the Gal Gadot-starrer will open in India just ahead of Christmas, on December 24.## "I hope that people come to the film and love it, of course. Tenet Day 1 Box Office Collection in India

The Christopher Nolan directorial, action-thriller, and science fiction film, Tenet debuted in India today on December 4 in theaters, almost three months after its theatrical release in the rest of the world. The movie released in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on around 800 screens in India including IMAX, and as everyone was expecting, the film somewhere forced people to come out from their houses to get the cinematic experience all over again. As the result, Tenet has had a decent opening at the box office despite the restrictions. As per the early estimates, Tenet has earned approx Rs. 1.50 crores on its opening day in India. The first-day collection was largely generated via IMAX screens which show very good occupancy all over India. For the 2D version, Mumbai has had a good occupancy, while most of the other parts were partially good. Instead, it will now open "Dune" on October 1.
