Avatar 2 To Delay Indefinitely, Confirms James Cameron

It was recently when the cast and crew of the highly anticipated movie Avatar 2 headed New Zealand to resume shoot and the movie was all set to bring the action on December 2021. But, such has been the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which has not only resulted in movies that were about to come out being delayed but movies ways into the future needing to be pushed back too and Avatar 2 is one of them. ## Responding to the delay, James Cameron, the director of Avatar, today (July 24) confirmed that bringing the movie on December next year will no longer be possible as the coronavirus pandemic has prevented him and his team from recommencing most of the visual production work on stages in Los Angeles, which he described as being "just as critical" to the Avatar movies as the live-action work. ## He continued in a statement shared on Twitter, "Prior to the COVID-19, everything was on track to bring you the first sequel in December of 2021. Unfortunately, due to the impact that the pandemic has had on our schedule, it is no longer possible for us to make that date.## There is no one more disappointed about this delay than me. But I am buoyed by the incredible performances of our cast and the extraordinary work that Weta Digital is doing bringing the world of Pandora and the characters of the film to life". ## The director also added in his statement that he is "thankful for the support" he is receiving from Disney Studios as well as to the fans for their love and support over the years. While the wait for the sequel has now one more year longer, the filmmaker promises to deliver the end result. ## Read the full statement -## A message from James Cameron.Irayo, Na'vi Nation. Chris Evans said that playing the role of Captain America was the best decision he's ever made

Hollywood actor Chris Evans has said the playing the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the best decision he has ever made. However, the actor also confessed that he was scared and having anxiety attacks when MCU offered him the role of Captain America. ## Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Evans revealed that initially, he turned down the role of Captain America despite the six-film deal and a higher salary. It was the time when his family and friends pushed him for the role telling him he was making his decision based on fear to which the actor also agreed. ## "And it really just kind of clicked and it really did start to make sense to me that way, so I said 'Yeah. I think that's why the whole first movie, my hair was on fire, you're so scared just like 'Oh my god, I can't believe I'm doing this and please don't backfire, please don't blow up in my face. And not only did it not, but it was the best decision I've ever made, and I really owe that to Kevin Feige for being persistent and helping me avoid making a giant mistake. To be honest, all the things that I was fearing never really came to fruition." ## Chris Evans also confirmed that one of the main reasons for him to take up the challenge was none other than Robert Downey Jr, his MCU frenemy Iron Man who comfort him about the Marvel Method. ## "I knew where they wanted to go, that's part of the initial deal, not just for Captain America but for Avengers movies and that was daunting. And just hearing him kind of give you that little nudge of encouragement, it just made me feel a little bit more like I was part of the gang and not so intimidated".## "I guess it was a double-edged sword, on the one hand, it makes you feel very welcome but on the other hand, you just think 'Oh man, I gotta stand next to this guy? He's crushing this role. I don't want to be the weak link here.' But it was a very nice comforting thing to hear that he was in my corner," Evans said. ## FYI, as of last year's Avengers: Endgame, both Captain America and Iron Man bid adieu to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies and will not appear in any future project of MCU. COVID-19: Streaming films eligible for Oscar this year

Los Angeles, April 29 (IANS) The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences to change rules and eligibility requirements for the 2021 Oscars, making movies of streaming services eligible to win the golden statuettes.## The Academy has tweaked its Oscar eligibility rules in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The change is not permanent, and will apply to films released this year, reports variety.com.## During a meeting on Tuesday, the board of governors approved a temporary hold on the requirement that a film needs a seven-day theatrical run in a commercial theater in Los Angeles to qualify for the Oscars.## However, there's a catch and not all movies premiering on a streaming service will be eligible for Oscar. To get in Oscar contention, the streaming movie must have already had a planned theatrical release.## "The Academy firmly believes there is no greater way to experience the magic of movies than to see them in a theatre," said Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson, adding: "Our commitment to that is unchanged and unwavering. Nonetheless, the historically tragic COVID-19 pandemic necessitates this temporary exception to our awards eligibility rules. The Academy supports its members and colleagues during this time of uncertainty. We recognize the importance of their work being seen and also celebrated, especially now, when audiences appreciate movies more than ever."## Once movie theaters are allowed to re-open, the seven-day window will once again be required for eligibility.## The Academy also shared that it will eliminate an Oscar category. The sound mixing and sound editing categories will be combined into one award, reducing the total number of categories presented on the show to 23.## And in an effort to become more carbon-neutral, the Academy prohibited DVD screeners for the 94th Oscars gala. It also announced that for the first time all Academy members will be invited to participate in the preliminary round of voting for international feature films.## The 93rd Oscars will be held on February 28, 2021.## Stay tuned...
