Top Indian Overseas Grosser 2025: Rajinikanth's Coolie Tops

Mumbai, August 31 - 2025 has turned into a good year so far for Indian films in the overseas market, with movies from the Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam industries making a splash at the global box office. From grand romantic sagas to star-powered action blockbusters, audiences across the world have embraced Indian cinema like never before. Sun Pictures' gangster action drama, Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, was released on August 14, and within no time, it has stormed to the top spot among the biggest Indian grossers at the overseas box office. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is yet to complete its first weekend, already grossing over 150 crores overseas in 5 days. Yash Raj Films' romantic drama, Saiyaara, starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, became a global sensation. This has been the biggest success story of Indian cinema this year. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara blended soulful music, passionate storytelling, and stunning visuals, making it a cross-cultural hit. The film's theme connected not only with Indian audiences but across the world, making it the biggest Indian blockbuster in the international market. The Malayalam megahit, Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was hit by controversy in India, but that didn't stop it from making a big hit at the box office, not just in India but also internationally. It continued the Lucifer saga with high-octane political intrigue and action. The film’s international fan base, built from the first part, turned Empuraan into a global blockbuster. Thudarum, one of the biggest Malayalam blockbusters in recent times, stunned the trade and went on to score big at the box office. The action thriller, starring Mohanlal, did wonders globally and became one of only three Malayalam titles to cross 200 crores worldwide, including close to 100 crores gross from overseas markets. The historical epic, Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, impressed both domestic and global audiences and is currently the biggest Indian grosser worldwide with over 800 crores in collection. This Laxman Utekar's directorial's grand battle sequences, rich production design, and a patriotic storyline drove its stellar overseas run with close to 100 crores gross. Housefull 5, Bollywood's favourite comedy franchise, returned bigger and zanier. Despite the disappointment of not living up to expectations, this Akshay Kumar-led film did decently at the box office and is so far among the top overseas grossers. The film's mixed slapstick humour, exotic locations, and star power captured the attention of family audiences abroad, especially in the Gulf and the UK. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly marked a major comeback for superstar Ajith Kumar, after the big failure of Vidaamuyarchi. Ajith's vintage avatar in the movie was celebrated by the fans worldwide. It became the first film of the actor to hit 200 crores worldwide gross, including a good performance in overseas markets. War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has underperformed at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. In the first 5 days, the film grossed approximately 63 crores internationally. The movie is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films. After the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan returned to winning ways with Sitaare Zameen Par, a heartfelt comedy-drama that follows a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament. Just like Ajith Kumar, SZP proved to be a comeback movie for Aamir Khan by emerging as a box office hit in India and overseas. Sikandar, one of the major letdowns of the year, this Salman Khan-led action drama failed to perform to expectations despite featuring among the top 10 biggest overseas grossers. Directed by a seasoned director like AR Murugadoss, Sikandar finished below 200 crores worldwide, while its overseas performance was also not good. What Sikandar proved for Bollywood, Thug Life met the same fate for Kollywood. Kamal Haasan's much-awaited action-thriller, directed by Mani Ratnam, blended artful filmmaking with mass entertainment. The film's international premieres were major events, boosting its overseas revenue. However, it turned into a big disaster, failing to capitalise on the huge buzz. Before scoring his biggest grosser with Good Bad Ugly, Ajith Kumar had a big setback with the action-drama Vidamuyarchi. It was among the biggest failures. With heavyweights like War 2 and Coolie yet to arrive, the overseas box office race of 2025 is far from over. But for now, Saiyaara sits at the top, proving that heartfelt romance can still rule the world stage in the age of action spectacles. Stay tuned...

Lokesh Kanagaraj To Push Kaithi 2 Back Again To Direct A Dream Combo of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan?

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj might be up for another reshuffle in his future film timeline, and if that happens, actor Karthi, and more than him, the fans of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) will have to wait longer for the much-awaited sequel to Kaithi. ## After the blockbuster Leo, Lokesh teamed up with superstar Rajinikanth for the gangster action drama Coolie, which is currently playing in theatres. For a long time, the filmmaker had confirmed his plans to return to Kaithi 2 with Karthi after completing Coolie. But now, the latest buzz suggests that a different, and perhaps even bigger, project might take priority. ## The latest blockbuster buzz in Tamil media suggests that Lokesh is planning one of India's biggest multistarrers and has reportedly narrated a two-hero script to the superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for the same. The legendary duo is said to have given their nod, reportedly asking the filmmaker to move ahead with the project. ## Originally reportedly planned before the COVID-19 pandemic, this ambitious film is said to revolve around two ageing gangsters in a large-scale cinematic adventure, and will likely be produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI). If reports are to be believed, it could be Lokesh's immediate next. ## The news is indeed massive, and perhaps the biggest collaboration of Indian cinema in the recent past. But at the same time, it also brings a bittersweet feeling for fans awaiting Kaithi 2, wanting to see Lokesh get back to his strong zone of Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). ## The stars are probably not aligning for Kaithi 2, for which the script is said to be ready, subject to some changes. Interestingly, it was supposed to be made before Lokesh's Leo with Thalapathy Vijay, but plans changed as the director picked up Coolie, while Karthi also had a few films to complete. ## That said, a film uniting two titans of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, under Lokesh's vision promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic event. Fans may be ready to sacrifice the wait for Kaithi 2 if it means witnessing this dream project. However, an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited. ## Stay tuned...

Did AR Murugadoss Blame Salman Khan For Sikandar's Box Office Failure?

Chennai, August 19 - Tamil director AR Murugadoss has been in the media headlines ever since his film, Sikandar with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, failed miserably at the box office and turned into one of the lowest-grossing films of the actor in many years. ## In one of the interviews, the Ghajini director reasoned that due to a language barrier, he couldn't properly execute his plans, which led to the downfall of the film. Now, a new report is circulating on social media where it is claiming that ARM blamed Salman for the film's box office failure. ## According to the many reports, referring to ARM's interview with Bhardwaj Ranjan, it is said that the filmmaker accused the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star of not coming on the set during the day, as they had to shoot the film only after 9 PM, even with school-going children. ## While it is true that ARM said the above thing, it is not entirely true that he put the blame on Salman. The filmmaker reasoned that due to death threats to the superstar (which are valid and genuine), they couldn't shoot the film during the day in open areas, and that is why they chose night schedules. ## Because of this unavoidable reason, the shooting of Sikandar had a lot of spot changes and involved CG work more than expected. The Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty director, however, claimed that he couldn't execute the original story, which was close to his heart. And that he was not the only one who was accountable for his poor execution, as he did not have a commanding unit. ## Meanwhile, ARM is gearing up for the release of Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, which is scheduled for September 5. ## Stay tuned...

With Coolie, Director Lokesh Kanagaraj Joins the Elite 400-Crore League Alongside SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj teamed with superstar Rajinikanth for the first time for a gangster action drama film Coolie, which had a record-breaking opening weekend ever, after the record opening day, for a Tamil title. The movie entered the 400 crores club at the worldwide box office on its 5th day, and led the director to an elite club. ## With Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially entered the elite club of Indian filmmakers who have delivered three consecutive 400+ crore worldwide grossers, standing tall alongside legends like SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani. Arguably the most bankable director of Tamil cinema currently, Lokesh keeps winning at the box office. ## The filmmaker began this extraordinary streak with Vikram (2022), a Kamal Haasan starrer that revived the superstar's box office dominance and grossed over 400 crore worldwide. He followed it up with Leo (2023), featuring Thalapathy Vijay, which, despite polarised reviews, went on to collect over 600 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. Now with Coolie (2024), Lokesh has achieved the rare hat-trick, making him the only Tamil filmmaker to do so. ## This puts him in the same league as SS Rajamouli, who delivered path-breaking blockbusters like Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, and RRR, each setting new benchmarks not just in India but across the world, where his last two films went on to gross over 1000 crores worldwide. Similarly, Bollywood's titan Rajkumar Hirani struck gold with 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and Dunku, all surpassing the 400-crore milestone. ## For Lokesh, achieving the feat of delivering 3 consecutive 400 crores grossers in the relatively smaller Tamil market makes the accomplishment even more remarkable. His rise reflects the growing stature of Tamil cinema, even though it is yet to fully explore some of the key markets, including the Hindi belt. With his streak of consecutive blockbusters, he has proven that strong storytelling combined with star power and scale can deliver massive results. ## As he continues to shape the blockbuster Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), along with standalone films with some of India's biggest stars, the young filmmaker is now firmly established as one of the most powerful voices in Indian cinema today. Lokesh's next films promise bigger results with LCU's Kaithi 2, Rolex, and Vikram 2, and a standalone film with Aamir Khan in the pipeline. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Thalapathy Vijay's Leo: Opening Weekend Box Office Comparison

Chennai, August 18 - In the high-octane world of the box office, comparisons are inevitable, especially when two megastars go head-to-head. Coolie, superstar Rajinikanth's latest blockbuster, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has officially the superstar's own hit 2 Point 0 to claimed the crown as the biggest opening weekend ever for a Tamil film.## Coolie amassed approximately 385 crore gross globally on its opening weekend, surpassing 2.0's previous record (estimated 375+ crore). However, a more suited comparison of Coolie could be with Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, as 2.0's data are compromised due to various reasons, one of them being the lack of a proper tracking system. ## Worldwide Opening Weekend Box Office Comparison of Coolie and LeoMovie Title1st Day WW GBOC2nd Day WW GBOC3rd Day WW GBOC4th Day WW GBOCTotal Weekend WW GBOCCoolie₹ 153.50 Cr₹ 91.50 Cr₹ 75.00 Cr₹ 65.00 Cr₹ 385.00 CrLeo₹ 142.70 Cr₹ 68.80 Cr₹ 75.50 Cr₹ 69.40 Cr₹ 356.40 Cr## In comparison with Leo, the Rajinikanth-starrer stands tall. Coolie now holds the record of the biggest opening day for the Tamil title with approximately 153 crores worldwide, beating the previous record of Leo, which minted around 143 crores. Both movies showed solid holds over the weekend, but Leo failed to beat Coolie with around 356.50 crores worldwide. ## At the domestic box office, Coolie has grossed approximately 230 crores, in comparison to 208.50 crores gross of Leo. The Rajinikanth-starrer also dominates the overseas opening weekend with around 154 crores, whereas Leo minted 148 crores. Leo is currently the second-largest Tamil grosser of all time, with approximately ₹ 606 crores worldwide. It needs to be seen how far Coolie can go. ##

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Jailer: Opening Weekend Box Office Collections Comparison

Chennai, August 18 - When it comes to the box office, superstar Rajinikanth is no stranger to rewriting history. In 2023, Jailer roared into theatres, amassing record-breaking numbers and cementing itself as a global blockbuster. Two years later, the legend has returned with Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which opened to unprecedented hype and is already making headlines for its thunderous worldwide opening weekend. ## The clash of these two milestones offers a fascinating look at how the superstar continues to dominate across generations. Coolie stars Rajinikanth as a former smuggler, backed by a stellar ensemble including Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan (cameo), and others. On day 1, Coolie exploded with approximately 153 crores worldwide, as the biggest Tamil opener of all time. ## Worldwide Opening Weekend Box Office Comparison of Coolie and LeoMovie Title1st Day WW GBOC2nd Day WW GBOC3rd Day WW GBOC4th Day WW GBOCTotal Weekend WW GBOCCoolie₹ 153.50 Cr₹ 91.50 Cr₹ 75.00 Cr₹ 65.00 Cr₹ 385.00 CrJailer₹ 96.60 Cr₹ 46.40 Cr₹ 79.10 Cr₹ 85.90 Cr₹ 308.00 Cr## Since the opening day, even though the trajectory remained on the downward side, the film retained steam, earning another 250 crores worldwide from Friday to Sunday. With record-setting advances, a historic day, and sustained collections through the extended holiday period, the film has ended its 4-day opening week on a spectacular high with approximately 385 crores worldwide. ## This roaring opening weekend naturally draws comparisons with Rajinikanth's earlier juggernaut, Jailer (2023). Released on August 10, 2023, the Nelson Dilipkumar's directorial had kick-started its journey with a powerful 96.60 Cr worldwide gross. The movie then maintained a steady hold throughout the 4-day opening weekend, grossing 308 Cr globally. While Jailer stunned the industry in 2023 with its phenomenal opening weekend, Coolie has raised the stakes even higher in 2025 with the biggest weekend. ## Stay tuned...

Sikandar Director AR Murugadoss Responds To Why Tamil Cinema Is Not Able To Produce 1000 Crore Films

Chennai, August 18 - Tamil director AR Murugadoss, who last directed superstar Salman Khan's Sikandar, has been in the news for the past few weeks for various reasons. The director caught everyone's attention recently when he blamed the language barrier for the box office failure of Sikandar, even though he had delivered a couple of big blockbusters in Hindi. ## A few weeks after his statement regarding Sikandar's failure went viral, the Ghajini director gave another statement, which is making a lot of noise on social media. During the promotion of his upcoming film Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Murugadoss explained why Tamil films are not earning 1000 crores worldwide, while other top industries do. ## Speaking to Valaipechu Voice, the director observed that Tamil filmmakers approach cinema differently from their counterparts in other industries. "Filmmakers in other languages tend to concentrate on entertaining people only, whereas Tamil directors tend to view cinema from an educational standpoint," he said. ## He noted that "Tamil cinema typically carries messages of what viewers should or should not do, which impacts their commercial success," while stressing that "Tamil directors are not to be compared directly with filmmakers from other regions because their goals are different." ## Meanwhile, ARM's Madharaasi is scheduled to release on September 5. It stars Sivakarthikeyan, Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, Vikranth, Shabeer Kallarakkal and Rukmini Vasanth in the lead roles, alongside Prem Kumar, Sanjay and Sachana Namidass. ## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan's Coolie Hindi Opening Weekend Collection

Mumbai, August 18 - Superstar Rajinikanth's gangster action drama Coolie, also featuring Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in a cameo role, has had a decent opening weekend at the Hindi box office, where it has competed with YRF's War 2, and strong holdover Mahavatar Narsimha. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie has been the best-promoted Kollywood title in North India in recent times, yet the results are not as expected. After opening with 4.50 crores net collection, the dubbed version showed consistency, but failed to take full advantage of the holiday period. ## Dubbed as Coolie: The Powerhouse, the film scored approximately 19.50-19.75 crores net collection over the 4-day extended weekend in Hindi. Currently, it is the 7th highest-grossing Tamil title of all time in the Hindi version. The presence of Aamir Khan was expected to boost Coolie's chances in Hindi, but that didn't happen, due to a clash as well as mixed audience reception.## Depending on how it performs in the coming days, a decent hold from hereon will make this the second biggest Tamil grosser in Hindi, behind 2.0, which scored around 188 crores net. Currently, Kabali is the second biggest grosser with approximately 28 crores net. ## Meanwhile, Coolie had a huge first weekend at the worldwide box office with around 385 crores gross in all versions. In India, the movie has minted approximately 230 crores, while overseas collection is an estimated 155 crores in 4 days. As said, the word of mouth is mixed, so it needs to be seen how the film performs during the weekdays. ## Here's a look at day-wise collections of Coolie in Hindi - ## Thursday - 4.50 crores net approx. ## Friday - 6.30 crores net approx. ## Saturday - 4.25 crores net approx. ## Sunday - 4.65 crores net approx. ## Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Enters 100 Crore Net Club In Hindi, But Underperforms In The Opening Weekend

Mumbai, August 18 - Yash Raj Films' much-awaited War 2 has officially crossed the 100 crore net mark in Hindi during its 4-day opening weekend, but the performance is being viewed as underwhelming compared to the sky-high expectations. Ideally, the movie should have done at least 200 crores net collections in the Hindi version, but the poor reviews and mixed word of mouth affected it badly. ## The film, featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani in the leading roles, was touted as one of the biggest box office events of 2024, riding on the legacy of the successful War (2019) and the Spy Universe. Despite the massive hype, War 2 disappointed and is now at risk of finishing as one of the lowest films in the YRF Spy Universe. ## 134th Hindi Film in the 100 Crore Club ## With its entry, War 2 becomes the 134th Hindi film to achieve the 100 crore net milestone. This number itself shows how the club, once considered elite, has become relatively common over the past decade. Still, crossing 100 crore within the first weekend remains an important benchmark for any big Bollywood release, but much more was expected from War 2. ## Hrithik Roshan's 8th 100 Crore Film ## For Hrithik Roshan, this is yet another addition to his enviable track record, something trade and fans feel could have been much brighter. War 2 marks his 8th film to cross the 100 crore net mark in Hindi, cementing his position as one of Bollywood's most bankable action stars. With films like Bang Bang!, Krrish 3, Super 30, War, and Fighter, Hrithik has consistently delivered big openers and strong box office runs. ## Jr. NTR’s 2nd Entry into the Club ## Originally hailing from Telugu cinema, superstar Jr. NTR is slowly making his presence felt in the Hindi market, even though it is still a long way to go. War 2 marks his first major Hindi outing, now has his 2nd film in the 100 crore Hindi net club after RRR. His presence in War 2 has boosted the film's pan-India appeal, especially among Telugu audiences, but again, the potential was cut short by unfavourable reception. ## Kiara Advani's 5th 100 Crore Film ## For Kiara Advani, who marks he debut in the Spy Universe, War 2 marks her 5th film to enter the 100 crore club, proving her consistency as one of Bollywood's top leading ladies. After hits like Kabir Singh, Good Newwz, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Jugjugg Jeeyo, she continues to grab headlines with big-ticket entertainers. ## Underwhelming But Crucial Week Ahead ## While the 100 crore milestone has been crossed, War 2 has largely underperformed in its opening weekend, given the hype, scale of release and the Independence Day holiday boost. The weekdays ahead will now be decisive. If the film shows strong hold, it could go on to achieve decent success, but a steep drop may limit its long-term box office prospects. ## Meanwhile, the film has grossed approximately 265 crores worldwide in its 4-day opening weekend in all languages, including 210 crores gross in India and 55 crores overseas. The movie will need to put up strong holds in the coming days to reach a respectable lifetime total. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie and Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Feature In The Top 10 Movies of The Weekend (August 15-17) Worldwide

Chennai, August 18 - It was nearly the Indian domination at the global box office this past weekend as superstar Rajinikanth's much-hyped gangster action drama Coolie has stormed to the second spot at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. ## Over the extended Independence Day weekend (August 14–17), the Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial grossed a staggering $44+ million (385+ Cr) worldwide, making it the second biggest grosser of the weekend across all films globally. In the process, Coolie missed out on the top spot to Hollywood actioner Weapons, which collected nearly $50 million worldwide over the same frame. ## It needs to be noted that it was the second weekend for Weapons, which grossed $43.4 million during 15-17 August. During the same frame, Coolie managed $26.55+ million (232+ crores) at the worldwide box office, and was the 4th biggest grosser behind Demon Slayer ($32.3 million) and Nobody ($32 million). ## Despite mixed word of mouth and largely poor critics' reviews, Coolie's performance underscores Rajinikanth's unmatched star power and marks another milestone for Tamil cinema on the international stage. Its four-day extended weekend tally also makes it the biggest-ever Tamil opener worldwide, surpassing even 2.0 and Leo. ## The Top Ten Films Worldwide for 15-17 August 2025 WeekendRankFilm TitleWeekend WW GBOC (In USD)Weekend WW GBOC (In INR)1.Weapons$43.40 million₹380.00 Cr2.Nobody$32.00 million₹280.00 Cr3.Demon Slayer$31.30 million₹274.00 Cr4.Coolie$25.55+ million₹232.00 Cr5.Freakier Friday$23.80 million₹208.00 Cr6.Dead To Rights$23.40 million₹205.00 Cr7.The Bad Guys 2$21.20 million₹186.00 Cr8.War 2$20.70 million₹181.00 Cr9.The Shadow's Edge$20.30 million₹178.00 Cr10.Fantastic Four: The First Steps$18.10 million₹158.50 Cr## Note: International movies' data according to Comscore ## The film opened strongly in both domestic and overseas markets, with India contributing the lion's share of collections, while North America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia delivered robust numbers. Despite the robust weekend, the trade feels that Coolie somehow underperformed, considering the sky-high buzz and expectations. ## Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's spy action thriller War 2 was also among the top 10 movies of the weekend (August 15-17) at the worldwide box office with $20.70+ million. Released by Yash Raj Films itself, it took the 8th spot among the top weekend grossers. Overall, the film grossed approximately 265 crores worldwide in its 4-day weekend (August 14-17). ## As said, just like Coolie, War 2 also underperformed against huge expectations. However, in comparison, Coolie faired much better and, to some extent, it managed to overcome the negative reviews and mixed word of mouth, something War 2 failed to do, especially in the Telugu version. ## Stay tuned...

100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box Office: Blockbuster Su From So Joins Yash's KGF 2 and Four Others

Bengaluru, August 17 - Kannada cinema has delivered yet another remarkable milestone at the worldwide box office. Actor-producer Raj B. Shetty's comedy-drama Su From So has emerged as a surprise 100 crore blockbuster, joining an exclusive list of just a handful of Kannada films that have crossed the century mark in global collections. Kannada industry, despite the potential, has been the least successful South Indian film industry in terms of delivering 100 crore movies. And when a film achieves this mark, it becomes a monumental feat worthy of huge celebrations, unlike other industries, where 100 crores becomes the norm. The success of Su From So comes at a time when Kannada cinema was going through a relatively dull phase in 2024, with failure after failure. Released on July 25, the film steadily grew with strong word of mouth, eventually storming past the coveted figure. It is the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year by a long margin. Su From So is only the sixth Kannada film ever to achieve the milestone of 100 crores gross worldwide. This is the first 100 crores Kannada grosser since Rishab Shetty's mega blockbuster Kantara Chapter 1, which was released in September 2022. Have a look at the complete list of 100 crores Kannada grossers - KGF: Chapter 2 (1215 crore) - Yash's magnum opus, directed by Prashanth Neel, remains the biggest ever Kannada film and one of the highest-grossing Indian films in history. It is the only Kannada and one of only eight Indian films to breach the milestone of 1000 crores worldwide. Kantara (408 crore) - Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the divine folklore action-drama shocked trade analysts by becoming a cultural and commercial phenomenon worldwide, and is currently the second biggest Kannada grosser of all-time. (as of September 4, 2025) Su From So (121+ crore) - The latest entrant, Raj B. Shetty's unique blend of comedy and drama, has found massive love from audiences, bringing Kannada cinema back into the spotlight. 777 Charlie (102.75 crore) - The heartwarming dog adventure drama, fronted by Rakshit Shetty, connected with families and animal lovers, pushing it past the century mark. It is hailed as one of the finest films of Kannada cinema in recent times. Vikrant Rona (100+ crore) - Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep's fantasy action entertainer, with its stylish visuals and grand scale, managed to go past 100 crores worldwide. It was one of the most hyped Kannada movies, but the film somewhat underperformed. Even though the success count of Kannada cinema has largely been underwhelming, it now proudly has six worldwide 100 crore grossers, a feat that only a few years ago seemed far-fetched. The trend shows that while mega spectacles like KGF and Kantara set records, even smaller-budget, content-driven films like Su From So can emerge victorious at the box office if backed by strong storytelling and word of mouth. As the industry looks ahead, there are a few films, including Yash's Toxic and Rishab Shetty's Kantara 2, in the making, which are sure to find their place in the biggest Kannada grossers. The industry, however, will hope that more and more tentpole films are put under production to increase the success count.
