Rajkumar Hirani Reveals Why Shah Rukh Khan Couldn't Be A Part Of 'Munnabhai MBBS'

Mumbai, December 19 - Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's directorial debut Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. has completed 19 years since its release in 2003. Considered one of the greatest films of all time, the comedy-drama was headlined by Sanjay Dutt with Arshad Warsi playing the supporting role. ## Sanjay Dutt played the role of a lifetime as Murliprasad Sharma aka Munna Bhai, however, he was not the first choice for the role. During a recent interview, director Hirani revealed that it was Anil Kapoor who was his first choice before it was offered to Shah Rukh Khan, and then finally, Sanjay Dutt was picked for it. ## Hirani revealed that it was producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra who suggested him to approach Shah Rukh Khan to play the role of Murli Prasad Sharma. The filmmaker said that being a newcomer, he was not sure whether SRK would do a film with him as King Khan was already an established star in the industry. ## The filmmaker further said that he approached SRK and wished to narrate the story, but since the actor was busy with "Devdas", he asked him to leave the script behind. When SRK read the script he liked it and called Hirani the next day to meet him.## Shah Rukh Khan agreed to do the movie but then a problem arose. Rajkumar Hirani stated, "This was a time when he (SRK) had to fly to London for his neck surgery. Meanwhile, he already had many films lined up like Chalte Chalte (2003), Main Hoon Na (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), etc, and informed me that he'll finish these pending films and only then he can begin work on my film". The producer didn't want to wait for 2-3 years as the songs were ready and other prep work was also completed so they move on from him and roped Sanjay Dutt for the role. ## Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani finally got a chance to work together for the first time in the upcoming comedy-drama film "Dunki". Pawan Kalyan's 'Kushi' Re-Release Date Confirmed

Hyderabad, December 19 - A new year treat is awaiting the fans of Powerstar Pawan Kalyan as his classic blockbuster Kushi is gearing up for a re-release in theaters.## Directed by S. J. Suryah, "Kushi", which also starred Bhumika Chawla as the female lead, will be re-released on the evening of the new year 2023 (31st December) in India and overseas on a record number of screens in the 4K remastered version.## It was reported that some promotional content for Pawan Kalyan's upcoming period action drama film "Hari Hara Veera Mallu" will also be added to "Kushi" as both films are produced by AM Ratnam. Box Office: Avatar 2 First Sunday Early Estimates

Mumbai, December 18 - The Disney tentpole Avatar: The Way of Water is running riot at the Indian box office and scored 40+ crores on its 3rd straight day. ## The sci-fi epic, directed by James Cameron, scored approx. 83 crores net in the first two days in India in all languages and it scored big again on Sunday. As per the early estimates, the sequel scored 43-45 crores net on Sunday, pushing the 3-day opening weekend total to around 127 crores. ## "Avatar 2" has grossed around 155 crores, including approx. 80 crores in the original English language in the first 3 days. It scored the second biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood movie, after "Avengers: Endgame". With Christmas weekend ahead, "Avatar 2" is likely to continue its good run at the box office. ## "Avatar 2" will have a competition next week with Rohit Shetty's "Cirkus" and also in South from Telugu and Malayalam movies. Los Angeles, December 18 - It looks like Warner Bros. is ending its former DC Extended Universe (DCEU) to make way for the new DC Universe being created by DC Studios Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. ## The studio under the new CEOs is taking harsh calls to shape up its DC future for at least the next 8-10 years. James Gunn recently confirmed that Henry Cavill wouldn't be returning as Superman while the reports have also claimed that Warner Bros. has scrapped the 3rd installment of Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman 3". ## Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the cameos of Cavill as Superman and Gadot as Wonder Woman have also been scrapped in the upcoming 2023 superhero movie "The Flash" as the studio chose to not go forward with director Patty Jenkins' version of "Wonder Woman 3". ## It is said that Cavill had already shot his cameo but since he is not returning as Superman in the already announced "Man of Steal 2", his cameo no longer makes sense hence it has been cut in Ezra Millar's "The Flash", which is scheduled to release in June next year.## With Jason Momoa potentially leaving Aquaman behind to play Lobo and Patty Jenkins' version of Wonder Woman 3 no longer moving forward, it seems as though the DC Extended Universe that started with 2013's Man of Steel is coming to a close.## Stay tuned...

Mumbai, December 18 - James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water is having fun at the Indian box office but it couldn't stop Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 2 from getting its due as it continues to score ever after 4 weeks since its release.## The suspense thriller, directed by Abhishek Pathak, witnessed a jump of approx. 89% on its 5th Saturday for 2.02 crores net. The movie has now reached 218.79 crores in net in 30 days and becomes the 22nd highest-domestic grosser in Hindi. ## Produced by Panorama Studios in association with Viacom18 Studios and T-Series, "Drishyam 2" has become Ajay Devgn's second-biggest grosser of all time at the worldwide box office. It has grossed approx. 312 crores, including 54 crores internationally to become Ajay's second best after "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" which grossed 361 crores worldwide in 2020.## "Drishyam 2" will be eyeing 325 crores plus in its lifetime box office run, finishing as one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema. Los Angeles, December 17 - James Cameron said that Avatar: The Way of Water will need a minimum of $2 billion at the global box office to break even, but the movie is having underwhelming numbers in its two biggest markets - North America and China.## "Avatar 2" was projected to score a huge $175 million opening weekend in its domestic (North American) market, but that projection has been blown away by slow response despite extremely positive WOM. As per the Hollywood trade analysts, "Avatar 2" grossed $134 million on opening weekend, well below the projection.## It was the covid-19 pandemic that hurt the box office in the last two years but it is still spoiling the party in China which is currently facing the wrath of covid. When the advances opened in China, "Avatar 2" was on track for a huge start as the projection suggested over $175 million opening weekend, but that is now a thing of the past as actual numbers are nowhere near the projections. ## Despite the positive WOM, "Avatar 2" grossed just $23.5 million Friday, including previews, and finished the opening weekend at just $57.10 million, which is just about 30% of the initial projection. The combined opening weekend total for "Avatar 2" in the US and China is $192 million. ## Meanwhile, on the brighter side, "Avatar 2" had the second biggest overseas opening of the pandemic era with $300.10 million, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home's" $340 M, from like-for-like markets. The global box office of the Disney tentpole reached $434.50 million. ##

Mumbai, December 17 - The people of Pandora are having fun on earth as James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has taken the Indian box office by storm. The sci-fi sequel brought big numbers on opening day with 41 crore net collection in all languages. ## "Avatar 2" had one of the biggest opening days in India in 2022 and the second biggest ever for a Hollywood movie after "Avengers: Endgame". With solid critics' reviews and audience word of mouth, the movie grows over 10% on Saturday as the early estimates suggest around 45 crores net in all versions. ## The South Indian states, led by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, continue to drive the biz. Language-wise, English, as expected, remained the top contributor with an estimated 24 crores net on Saturday, followed by Hindi with approx. 14 crores net.## "Avatar 2" has collected approx. 86 crores net in two days with gross numbers going past 100 crores in all languages. Mumbai, December 17 - Director Anees Bazmee's "Welcome" (2007), fronted by Akshay Kumar remains one of the most loved comedy films of all time. Its sequel, "Welcome Back", was released in 2015 and also worked in cinemas though it couldn't recreate the magic of its predecessor.## Over the past few years, the talks regarding "Welcome 3" has been on the rise, and producer Nadiadwala himself confirmed the development now, in a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker revealed that it will be made on a huge scale. ## Firoz Nadiadwala revealed that the title of the movie would most likely be "Welcome To The Jungle". He said that the movie will be based on a military action backdrop and will retain the humor, wit, and entertainment that is associated with this franchise. ## "We'll make use of the 'huey' helicopters and for the first time in an Indian film, aircraft carriers will be used in action scenes. It’ll be made on a scale that has never been seen before in Indian cinema in terms of production value, grandeur, etc", said the filmmaker.## It is not yet confirmed whether Akshay Kumar or other casts will reprise their roles in "Welcome 3" but Nadiadwala confirmed that top stars will feature in the movie.
