Adivi Sesh's 'Major' Scored 8 Million Viewing Hours In Its First Full Week On Netflix

Mumbai, July 13 - Adivi Sesh's biographical action drama film Major scored 8 million viewing hours on Netflix in its first full week in Hindi and Telugu languages. The movie was made available on the streamer on July 3 in all three release languages, Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam. ## The Hindi version of the movie was the most-watched Indian title and second-most overall non-English movie globally on Netflix in the week of July 4 - July 10. It scored 5.99 million viewing hours while the Telugu version, which landed at number 8, grabbed 2 million hours of watch time in the movie's first full week on Netflix. ## Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, "Major" was released theatrically on June 3rd in the original Hindi and Telugu along with dubbed Malayalam versions. The film follows the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an army officer who was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. It also stars Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Revathi, Murali Sharma and Anish Kuruvilla. From its theatrical run, the movie grossed approx. 60 crores worldwide and declared as a box office super hit. ## SS Rajamouli's never-ending obsession RRR Hindi version continued to remain one of the choices on Netflix, especially among overseas audiences. The period action drama film scored 2.85 million viewing hours and remained in the top 10 most-watched non-English films worldwide for the 8th consecutive week on Netflix. ## Hindi movie, Operation Romeo, produced by Neeraj Pandey, opened at number 9 with 1.94 million viewing hours on the streamer. On the other hand, Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu-fronted horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 remained in the top 10 for the 4th consecutive week. However, it is too early to compare it with "Vikram", which was a Pan India movie and was promoted well within domestic as well as international markets. It was also boosted with a solid and talented star cast, also featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil along with a rocking cameo of Suriya. ## On the other hand, "Cobra" doesn't have a big name apart from Chiyaan Vikram. Created by the Duffer Brothers, season 4 of the series was released in two parts with the first part of 7 episodes debuting on May 27 while volume 2 with the remaining two episodes on July 1 this year. ## The 4th season of "Stranger Things" has not only been a big hit but also created new streaming records. It has become only the second Netflix series ever to score 1 billion watching hours, after Korean hit "Squid Game S1". Apart from this, the series also set a few more records, which are as follows - ## 1. Biggest Opening Weekend Ever For Netflix -## "Stranger Things 4", upon its release on May 27, scored 286.79 million hours of viewing time worldwide during its opening weekend. It stormed past the previous record holder, season two of "Bridgerton", which had 193 million viewing hours in the opening weekend. ## 2. Most-Watched English Series on Netflix of All Time - ## "Stranger Things 4" is now the most-watched English language series of all time on Netflix. The series had reached the top spot by outscoring "Bridgerton: Season 2" in just 17 days. "Bridgerton: Season 2" was watched for 656.26 million hours in its first 28 days while "ST4" has already been watched for 1.15 billion hours on Netflix.## 3. First English Series on Netflix To Be Watched For 1 Billion Hours - ## There have been only two series on Netflix, which have been watched for over 1 billion hours. While "Squid Game" scored 1.6 billion viewing hours, "Stranger Things 4" is the second and the only English language show to achieve the feat on the streamer. Unlike "Thor: Ragnarok", the 4th installment in this superhero franchise got low ratings from critics and audiences alike.## Thor will return with the 5th installment, but after "Thor: Love and Thunder", the speculations are making noise about who will direct it and will Chris Hemsworth return to play this iconic comic-book superhero. Interestingly, the post-credits card ending "Thor 4" was a surprise for the eight-time Marvel star as it introduces a major MCU superhero. ## Well, in an interview with Insider (via comicbook, Waititi revealed that he would love to return to the director's chair and complete his Thor trilogy only with Hemsworth, who, in one of the recent interviews said that he would play Thor "until someone says get off the stage".## "That was a surprise to me, too. Mumbai, July 11 - Marvel/Disney's Thor: Love and Thunder packed a solid punch with a very good extended opening weekend at the Indian box office, becoming another Marvel tentpole to open big in the country. ## The Chris Hemsworth-starrer superhero movie, despite the mixed talks, scored a brilliant 82 crores gross ($10.3 million) over the first 4-days weekend. The movie opened to 23.11 crores gross on Thursday but slipped 37% on Friday to 14.47 crores. At this time, it looked like the movie is getting affected due to the mixed WOM, but it was not that case as it jumped again on Saturday and Sunday for 21.23 crores and 23.36 crores gross, respectively. ## The English version of "Thor 4" is leading the charge at the Indian BO with 54.67 crores gross in 4 days, followed by the Hindi version with 23.24 crores. The other versions, including Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada scored approx. 4.10 crores gross. India was the fifth biggest international contributor to "Thor 4's" collection on the opening weekend.## Directed by Taika Waititi, "Thor 4" has become the highest-grossing Thor movie in India, crossing the lifetime collection of "Thor: Ragnarok", which scored approx. 75 crores gross in 2017. It is currently the 17th highest-grossing Hollywood movie in India but is likely to finish under the top 10. Taika Waititi returned to direct his second Thor movie and also re-introduces Jane Foster after being sidelined since 2014's "Thor: The Dark World".## "Thor: Love and Thunder", however, is not being loved by the critics while the audience reception is also mixed. The critics' score of the latest Thor movie is almost similar to the second movie in the franchise, "Thor: The Dark World", with 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thor 2 has a 66% critics' score. ## Regardless of what critics are saying, "Thor 4" put up a thunderous show at the domestic as well as international box office, scoring a mighty $303 million globally, which is the 3rd highest weekend for any Hollywood movie during the pandemic and the 2nd best of 2022, behind "Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness".## At the domestic (North America) box office, "Thor: Love and Thunder" scored the biggest opening weekend as compared to each of the previous three Thor movies with $144 million. Previously, "Thor: Ragnarok" had the record of the biggest opening in this Marvel franchise with $122.7 million in the first weekend in 2017. ## Interestingly, the box office of this superhero franchise has witnessed growth with each movie from their previous movie. The first Thor movie was released in 2011 with a domestic opening weekend of $65.7 million. Later when "Thor: The Dark World" was released in 2013, it outscored the first movie by collecting $85.7 million while "Thor: Ragnarok" carried this trend in 2017 followed by "Thor 4". ## The future of "Thor: Love and Thunder" might go with the "Doctor Strange 2" way.
