Kangana Ranaut Opens Up On Directing 'Emergency' Movie
Mumbai, July 17 - Bollywood actress and filmmaker, Kangana Ranaut has taken a huge task into her hands to direct one of the key historical moments in Indian politics, the period of Emergency. The first look teaser of the movie was unveiled a couple of days and it got anonyms positive response from one and all and it started to trend at number 1 on YouTube. ## Kangana Ranaut, apart from directing and producing the film, is also playing the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. "Emergency" marks Kangana's second directorial venture after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, and she is looking super confident with the upcoming film as well. "Manikarnika" was a successful outing at the box office and Kangana is hoping for the same with "Emergency" as well as she believes that her instinct as a filmmaker will pay off big time. ## During the latest interview, Kangana opened up about donning the directorial hat for the second time and said, "My last directorial was Manikarnika, and I got an encouraging response from the audience as it was a blockbuster. I was tempted to direct another film but I had many acting assignments to complete. I do believe that I know the pulse of the audience who is looking for something which will stimulate their intellectual side and not just their sensual side". ## "The Emergency is an undeniable part of recent history and I feel that this will click with the audience. Since the teaser has dropped it's been trending at number 1, it has taken the nation by storm and it is a validation of the fact that this is what people are starved for. It's not that people don't want content, they want to see young filmmakers, new thought process, refreshing ideas, and not the stale typical formula films. I do believe that my instinct as a filmmaker will pay off big time. See you in the cinemas next year", she added. ## The Emergency was imposed by then PM Indira Gandhi for a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when the fundamental rights of the people were put under strict curbs. Ritesh Shah of Pink fame has penned the screenplay and dialogues of the film.
