Box Office: Barbie Becomes The Highest-Grossing Movie of 2023 In North America
Los Angeles, August 24 - Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-led fantasy comedy film "Barbie" continues to rise at the box office and now has become the highest-grossing movie of 2023 domestically (North America).
Directed by Greta Gerwig, "Barbie" has generated $575.4 million through the fifth Wednesday at the domestic box office, overtaking "The Super Mario Bros. Movie", which has collected $574 million domestically to emerge the number one movie.
"Barbie" has already become the highest-grossing movie domestically in Warner Bros. Pictures' history after beating Christopher Nolan's superhero movie "The Dark Knight" ($536 million). It will soon outgross 2011's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" ($1.34 billion) as the studio's highest-grossing worldwide release of all-time.
At the worldwide box office, the movie based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel has become the 20th highest-grossing movie of all time, beating "Frozen" to reach $1.30 billion. It will surpass "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" today to become 19th of all-time and will soon surpass Mario ($1.35 billion) to emerge the biggest worldwide grosser of 2023.
