Prime Minister Narendra Modi Slams 'Boycott Bollywood' Trend

Mumbai, January 18 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly slammed the "Boycott Bollywood" trend on social media. Amid the row over Bollywood films, PM Modi on Tuesday told Bharatiya Janata Party workers and leaders to refrain from making unnecessary remarks on irrelevant issues like movies.

In recent times, several Bollywood films have been at the center of controversies as they have faced allegations of hurting Hindu sentiments and culture. The latest on the trend is Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" which is scheduled to release on January 25. The movie is getting heavy criticism for its song "Besharam Rang".

Prime Minister Modi's remarks came on the second day of the BJP's national executive meeting, where he suggested that unnecessary remarks on irrelevant issues such as movies put the party's development agenda on the back burner, according to Hindustan Times.

Earlier, Om Raut's "Adipurush" also faced boycott calls. The movie is based on Ramayana and Madhya Pradesh home minister and BJP leader Narottam Mishra had warned the makers of legal action if scenes showing Hindu religious figures in an allegedly wrong manner were not removed.

"Adipurush" is now scheduled to release on June 16, 2023, and the makers will be hoping that after PM Modi's intervention, the boycott calls would be put to rest and the movie would be able to get a smooth release.
