Box Office: 'Jurassic' Film Franchise Races Past $6 Billion Globally
Los Angeles, August 29 - In a major box office milestone, Universal/Amblin's six-film Jurassic franchise has crossed the $6 billion mark globally, after the latest blockbuster in the series Jurassic World Dominion crossed $990 million at the worldwide box office. ## The first film in the franchise, Jurassic Park was released in 1993 and went on to gross $978 million worldwide initial run and crossed $1 billion after getting re-released in North America in 2020. It finished its final run at $1.05 billion and was the highest-grossing film in the franchise, before Jurassic World surpassed it in 2015. ## The Chris Pratt-starrer "Jurassic World" is the highest-grossing film in the franchise with $1.67 billion at the worldwide box office (according to Box Office Mojo). The second highest-grossing in the series is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) with $1.31 billion worldwide. ## A total of 3 of 6 Jurassic films have crossed the $1 billion mark to date, and "Jurassic World Dominion" is inching closer to becoming the 4th film in the franchise to reach the legendary milestone. Overall, Jurassic is the 10th highest-grossing film franchise/series in the world. MCU is the highest-grossing franchise with $27.4 billion globally while "Star Wars" is the biggest film franchise in the world with $10.3 billion. ## Jurassic has been one of the film franchises which has always been audience-friendly, irrespective of the critics' reviews.
