Box Office: 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' Projected To Earn $135+ Million Worldwide In Opening Weekend
Los Angeles, March 27 - Director Adam Wingard's monster film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is projected to take the box office by storm in its opening weekend globally. The movie is riding on the mostly positive reviews from critics. ## Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures' sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and the fifth film in the MonsterVerse franchise, Godzilla x Kong is projected to earn $135+ million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend, according to Deadline. ## At the domestic (North America) box office, the highly-awaited sequel is expected to gross in the range of $50 million on opening weekend while the movie is projected to earn around $85 million internationally over 63 markets. Some projections are indicating a $100+ million international debut. ## Godzilla vs. Kong, which opened day and date on HBO Max in 2021, minted $48 million over the 5-day domestic opening weekend. The upcoming movie will be the third biggest opener for the Monsterverse (if current projection holds) after 2014's Godzilla ($93.1M) and 2017's Kong: Skull Island ($61M). ## The film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen in key roles. In the film, Kong encounters more of his species in the Hollow Earth and must unite with Godzilla to stop their tyrannical leader and a powerful, climate-changing Titan from destroying the surface. ## Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire begins its international rollout this Wednesday.
