Tom Cruise Opens Up On Why 'Top Gun: Maverick' Wasn't Sent For Direct OTT Release

Cannes, May 19 - Tom Cruise, arguably one of the biggest movie stars in the world, has returned to the big screen with "Top Gun: Maverick", a sequel to his 1986's film. The movie smashed records box office records as it turned out to be the biggest opening ever for Tom Cruise with $126.7 million domestically and over $250 million worldwide.## "Top Gun: Maverick", directed by Joseph Kosinski, was supposed to release in July 2020, but was forced to postpone due to the covid-19 pandemic. It was later announced for a 2021 release which was also differed by the pandemic and now, and finally, it hit theaters on May 27th. ## During the pandemic, most of the films that were ready to release took the direct digital route. The cruise was also asked the question whether he ever thought of going online way to release the "Top Gun" sequel, as it was already delayed multiple times.## "That's not going to happen. Ever", Cruise had said during Cannes Film Festival (via Variety).## The audience at the Grand Palais' Debussy theater applauded loudly. Cruise explained further, "I've spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen]". The actor said he called movie theater owners with a message, "Please, I know what you're going through. Just know we are making 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Top Gun' is coming out".## While explaining his reasons, Cruise said that he doesn't design his movies to be streamed on Netflix or Amazon Prime. He wants the high-flying action to unfold on the widest canvas possible. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Officially Revealed 'Loki' As The Most Watched Marvel Series On Disney Plus

Los Angeles, May 18 - Marvel Studios has an exciting lineup of movies and shows for the next couple of years. The studios' first Disney Plus series was launched in 2021 in the form of "WandaVision", followed by "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier", "Loki", and "Hawkeye" in the same year. ## As per the earlier reports, it was revealed that Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-starrer "WandaVision" was the most-watched Marvel series on Disney Plus. However, it has now been revealed by Marvel president Kevin Fiege at it is Tom Hiddleston's "Loki" Season 1 that is the most-watched Marvel series worldwide. ## Kevin Feige said that Loki was a "bold swing" and the "wild ride paid off". He also revealed that the production on the second season of "Loki" will start in the next few weeks with star Tom Hiddleston and the entire cast returning. Netflix Considering To Take Theatrical Route For Daniel Craig's 'Knives Out' Sequel

Mumbai, May 18 - It might sound strange or unbelievable to say that movies backed by OTT platforms going the theatrical way but it seems this is indeed going to happen as Netflix is considering releasing some movies in theaters this year with an exclusive theatrical window of 45 days. ## During the covid-19 pandemic, the popularity of streaming platforms has gone up exponentially. However, it looks like Netflix has understood what theaters bring as it is finally reportedly opening up more to the theatrical experience. ## Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw reported on Sunday that Netflix is considering releasing some movies in theaters this year with an exclusive theatrical window of 45 days. That's longer than the window Netflix has typically given the movies it releases in theaters, and more in line with what is emerging as a new windowing standard. ## One of the movies the streaming giant is considering bringing to theaters is Daniel Craig's "Knives Out" sequel. Scheduled to release in late 2022, "Knives Out 2" mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson. 'Shang-Chi' Star Simu Liu Reveals Why He Chose Margot Robbie's 'Barbie'

Los Angeles, May 17 - Simu Liu, who headlined Marvel Studios' "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" last year, will next be seen in "Barbie". The movie, fronted by Margot Robbie, is the first-ever live-action film based on the fashion doll after a series of animated films and television series. ## Simu Liu in a recent interview with GQ UK revealed that he had almost a zero idea about the movie when he agreed to audition for a role in the movie and revealed that it was a junior agent at his management customer who advised him to take up the movie after he told it is one of the best scripts ever. ## "He literally said this verbatim", Liu told. "He was like, 'If I could stake my career on any one script, it's the Barbie script. I really think you should do it". Box Office: Doctor Strange 2 Tops 150 Crores Gross In India And Nears $700M Worldwide

Mumbai, May 16 - Marvel/Disney's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" has completed two weekends at the Indian box office and scored a fantastic Rs 153 crores (est.) gross.## The superhero movie, directed by Sam Raimi, remained one of the first choices for the moviegoers over the first two weekends. 'Doctor Strange 2' Off To Heroic Launch In North America As It Crosses $450M Worldwide

Mumbai, May 8 - The dominance of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe at the box office continues as the studios' latest superhero movie "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" is off to a heroic start in North America with $187 million in the 3-day opening weekend. ## The $187 million launch marks the 11th biggest opening weekend in North American box office history and the biggest of 2022, beating Warner Bros' "The Batman" ($134M). Doctor Strange 2 Off To Remarkable Thursday Preview At The Domestic Box Office

Los Angeles, May 6 - Marvel Studios/Dinsey's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" scored a remarkable Thursday preview with $36 million at the domestic (North America) box office. This is the biggest Thursday preview score for a Hollywood movie in 2022 and the 8th overall of all time. ## Directed by Sam Raimi, "Doctor Strange 2" has been released in 4545 theaters in North America, which is the biggest release since 2019 and 5th biggest of all time. As compared to the recent top releases, "The Batman" was released in 4417 theaters, followed by "No Time To Die" (4407), and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (4336). ## "Doctor Strange 2" has been projected to score $150 million - $200 million in the opening weekend domestically. The numbers might go up with a strong 89% audience score on Rotton Tomatoes, though the critics' score is on the lower side with 77%.## Meanwhile, the first Doctor Strange opened to $85 million domestically in 2016, launching a new franchise for Marvel. The titular character, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, appeared in "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame" and, much more recently, Sony and Marvel's $1.9 billion blockbuster, "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which grossed $50 million in previews on its way to a $260.1 million domestic debut.## Stay tuned...
