'Ne Zha 2' Sells 300+ Million Tickets At The China Box Office; Highest In The 21st Century In A Single Market
Mumbai, March 7 - There is no stopping the Chinese mega-blockbuster Ne Zha 2 which continues shattering box office records. After becoming the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, it recently entered the $2 billion club at the worldwide box office becoming the first Chinese and animated movie to do so. ## Ne Zha 2, which was released on January 29 this year, has sold over 300 million (30 crores) tickets at the Chinese box office in 36 days which makes it the first film of the modern era to do so in a single market. Overall, the film has scored $302+ million globally so far.## The previous highest admissions in theatres for a movie of the modern era in China was Wolf Warrior 2 with 160+ million. There is no specific record available but according to Wikipedia, the Chinese musical fantasy romance Legend of the White Snake (1980) is the number 1 film worldwide in terms of tickets sold with 700+ million. ## Directed by Jiaozi, Ne Zha 2 is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster which itself is the 5th highest-grossing movie in China. The film is loosely based on Chinese mythology stories and the 16th-century Chinese novel Investiture of the Gods.
