Supreme Court Warns Multiplexes Over Exorbitant Prices

New Delhi, November 4 - The Supreme Court of India has raised serious concerns over the exorbitant prices charged by multiplexes for food and beverages. Over the last many years, theatres have struggled to bring the audiences, and the unaffordable prices are one of the major reasons for it. On Monday, a bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta, in an oral observation, said that exorbitant rates for tickets and food items at multiplexes could drive moviegoers away. They observed that the rates should be appropriately fixed so that people will come. According to Live Law, the apex court's observations came while hearing petitions by Multiplex Association of India against a recent Karnataka HC order to cap multiplex ticket prices at 200. The SC bench stayed the HC order, while issuing a notice on the petitions. Recently, the Karnataka Government passed an order that movie ticket prices in multiplexes shouldn't be more than Rs. 200. To challenge the order, the makers of Kantara Chapter 1 moved the high court, which stayed the order till further notice. The Karnataka HC had directed the multiplexes to keep auditable records of every ticket sold, both online and offline, so that refunds can be made if the multiplexes lose the case. The HC also ordered to maintain audit reports verified by a CA regularly, among other things. Stay tuned...

100 Days of Mahavatar Narsimha: The Game-Changer That Could Redefine the Future of Indian Animation

Mumbai, November 1 — Kaleem Productions and Hombale Films' Mahavatar Narsimha, the animation phenomenon that took the box office by storm, has completed 100 glorious days in theatres, marking a defining moment for Indian animation cinema. The film has defied expectations by grossing a massive around 327 crores worldwide, including almost 300 crores from India alone. With its remarkable run nearing completion, the Ashwin Kumar's directorial has proven that animation can command the same scale and respect as live-action blockbusters, even at the Indian box office, which hasn't seen much from the Indian cinema when it comes to animation. Released amid moderate expectations, Mahavatar Narsimha found attention through strong word of mouth, and once it got that, the film was unstoppable. It reimagined the story of Lord Narsimha — the half-man, half-lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu — through state-of-the-art animation and cinematic storytelling. What set the film apart was its grand visual language and emotional depth, resonating with audiences across generations and faiths. For many, it was not just a film but an immersive experience brought to life on the big screen. The film's success also highlights the growing appetite for Indian devotional-driven content when told with technical finesse and universal appeal. Mahavatar Narsimha was praised for its animation quality, action choreography, and background score, which received widespread acclaim, making it a benchmark for what Indian animation studios can achieve when ambition meets innovation. It has been that kind of film. Beyond its box office numbers, Mahavatar Narsimha might have paved the way for Indian filmmakers to think in this way. For years, the Indian film industry has struggled to establish itself in the animation sector, with a sole focus on live-action cinema. This film's success has opened the door for large-scale animated features rooted in Indian stories, encouraging both filmmakers and investors to view the medium as commercially viable. Its impact is already being felt, with several animation films reportedly exploring divotional and fantasy-based projects. There will be at least seven films in the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, with a few more already in production. The biggest animation project is likely to come in 2027, as maverick director SS Rajamouli has confirmed Baahubali: The Eternal War, which will be the continuation of the Baahubali franchise in animated format. The first part will hit the big screen in 2027. As Mahavatar Narsimha celebrates 100 days of dominance, it stands as more than just a blockbuster film — it's a milestone that could redefine the trajectory of Indian animation. By combining powerful storytelling with world-class visuals, it has shown that animated cinema can evoke the same awe, emotion, and patriotism as any live-action epic. The film's legacy will likely inspire a new generation of creators to dream bigger and take Indian animation to the global stage. Stay tuned...
