Can Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Make Baahubali 2 To Reclaim Indian Box Office Crown?

Hyderabad, October 30 - Maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli and Pan India superstar Prabhas' action drama Baahubali: The Conclusion ruled the Indian box office for nearly eight years as the country's highest-grossing film, before that reign came to an end when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule took over the top position following its phenomenal success in December last year. There is currently a difference of around 50 crores between the two films in favour of Pushpa 2. But the tables may yet turn with the upcoming re-release of the Baahubali duology, now presented as Baahubali: The Epic. This special cut will bring together both films — Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion — into a single, nearly 3-hour-45-minute cinematic experience. The advance booking of Baahubali: The Epic is robust, better than all the films which have been re-released at the Indian box office so far. To earn over 50 crores gross for the film shouldn't be a big ask, but it has to double it up to make Baahubali 2 reclaim its top spot. Baahubali: The Epic poses a unique case for box office accounting, as it includes both parts in one continuous feature, so the total earnings of its can't be attributed to just Baahubali 2. Since this is a one-of-a-kind case, what can be done is to split the collection of Baahubali: The Epic in half and add to both parts. If done so, the re-release will need to gross over 100 crores at the Indian box office to bridge the 50+ crores gap between Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2. For the record, no film has ever grossed more than 50 crores in its re-release run at the Indian box office, so it needs to be seen how Baahubali: The Epic fares, even though it is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time. Whether it can also help Baahubali 2 reclaim its long-held crown remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — this epic is about to make history again. Stay tuned...

Prashath Varma Locks Bhoomi Shetty As The Main Lead of His Next PVCU Film, Mahakali

Hyderabad, October 30 - After the massive success of Teja Sajja-fronted HanuMan (2024), filmmaker Prasanth Varma is all set to expand his ambitious Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) with another epic titled Mahakali, which is the second film in PVCU. After unveiling the first look poster of Akshaye Khanna recently, the filmmaker has now confirmed the main lead of the film. Bhoomi Shetty, who caught the attention with her recent works in Kingdom and Sharathulu Varthisthai, has been locked to play the leading role. The makers unveiled a powerful first-look poster of the young actress that has instantly created buzz across social media. The poster features Bhoomi Shetty in a fierce and divine avatar, marking her debut as the lead face of this new cinematic chapter. The striking image captures Bhoomi as the embodiment of raw power and divinity — her intense gaze, adorned with traditional ornaments and vibrant symbolism, reflects the ferocity and spiritual essence of Goddess Mahakali. The poster's dark tone, intricate details, and symbolic use of colours align perfectly with Prasanth Varma's unique visual storytelling style that blends mythology with modern cinematic flair. Produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RK Duggal Studios, Mahakali is created by Prasanth Varma and directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru (debut), with the story said to explore the feminine energy of destruction and rebirth. The film promises to delve deep into the PVCU, connecting further to the universe that began with HanuMan. The film has already completed over 50% of its shoot and is presently being filmed on a grand set specially constructed in Hyderabad. With Bhoomi Shetty taking on such a powerful and demanding role, Mahakali is shaping up to be another visually stunning addition to the PVCU. Stay tuned...

OTT Watchlist Expands with Kantara and Other Big Releases This Week Oct 27 to Nov 2

Bengaluru, October 27 - The exhibitors of Karnataka finally had a moment of joy this year with Rishab Shetty-fronted Kantara Chapter 1 doing excellent business and bringing people to theatres in big numbers. They were hoping for more to come, but their happiness has been cut short by a disappointing and questionable move by the makers. Despite the film continuing its very good run and showing remarkable stability across regions, the team has decided to drop it on the OTT platform much sooner than expected. At a time when almost every South Indian film is dropping on OTT after just four weeks of its theatrical release, Kantara Chapter 1 had the perfect chance to break the trend. The Rishab Shetty directorial was still performing excellently at the box office, showing no signs of slowing down even in its fourth weekend. With a strong hold and exceptional word of mouth, the film was well on its way to extending its glorious run and setting new benchmarks for long theatrical sustainability in the post-pandemic era. In its fourth weekend alone, the film grossed over 30 crores domestically, with nearly half of that coming from the Kannada version. These are solid numbers for a film that opened to massive numbers in its initial week, proving its continued dominance and audience connection. A longer exclusive theatrical run could have easily pushed the film's lifetime total significantly higher, adding many more crores to its already stellar tally. However, the makers have now officially confirmed the film's OTT release. The period folk actioner will drop on Amazon Prime Video on October 31st in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil versions, four weeks after its release. This decision comes across as both disappointing and questionable, especially considering the film's ongoing momentum at the ticket windows. In opting for an early digital release, the team may have left considerable box office potential untapped, undermining what could have been an even more historic run. Beyond the numbers, this move also affects exhibitors, particularly in Karnataka, where Kantara Chapter 1 has been a saviour amid a dull theatrical year. A longer theatrical run would have benefited both the film's legacy and the local theatre chains, reinforcing the power of strong content to sustain on the big screen. Instead, this shortened window feels like a missed opportunity for both the industry and the film's makers, and more importantly, for the theatre ecosystem, which has been struggling this year in Karnataka. Baahubali: The Epic Tops 10 Crore Advance Booking Worldwide; Sets Up Big Release In Overseas Markets

Hyderabad, October 29 - Director SS Rajamouli's action drama Baahubali: The Epic, which is a nearly 4-hour one cut version of his Baahubali duology, is roaring in the advance booking ahead of its 31st October release. The bookings are better than many of the mid-budget films, let alone the re-release title. Starring Prabhas in the title role alongside Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj and Tamannah Bhatia, the film has topped 10 crores advance booking gross collection for the opening day, including premieres. In India, the bookings have crossed 5 crores, while overseas pre-sales are nearing the 5 crore mark, driven by North America. The pre-sales of Baahubali - The Epic are already higher than the lifetime collection of Indian re-release titles. It is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time, and will probably become the first film to cross the 100 crore mark. Meanwhile, the makers have locked a wide release of the film in international markets. In the USA, the film will be released in over 400 theatres, followed by 210 in the UK & Ireland, over 150 in the UAE & GCC, 144 in Australia and New Zealand, and over 100 theatres in Southeast Asia. Overall, the movie will be released in over 1150 theatres across overseas markets, which is easily the biggest for an Indian re-release movie. Produced by Arka Media Works, Baahubali: The Epic has been censored with U/A with an approved theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 45 minutes. The first half, which contains scenes from Baahubali: The Beginning, is nearly 1 hour and 42 minutes, while the second half (Baahubali: The Conclusion) is about 2 hours and 3 minutes. Stay tuned...

Dhanush and Kriti Sanon's Tere Ishk Mein To Release Without Trailer?

Mumbai, October 29 - Director Anand L Rai's romantic drama with the National award-winning actor duo of Dhanush and Kriti Sanon is gearing up for release on November 28. The teaser, which was released recently, showcased the intense side of the lead pair as they indulge in a love-hate relationship. Produced by Colour Yellow Productions and T-Series, Tere Ishq Mein has already created a lot of buzz following the teaser and the title song release. While the audience is awaiting the trailer, it is said that the makers don't want to reveal much before the film hits the big screen. According to the reports, Anand L Rai and team have decided not to release the trailer. It is said that music is a pivotal part of the film, and the makers want to stick to the same approach leading up to the release. There will reportedly be one more song and a couple of different units as part of promotional plans before the release. However, there is no official confirmation on the same yet. If the makers indeed skip the trailer launch and directly release the film, it will be a bold move, as trailers have always been the most significant part of a film to build curiosity around it. The decision marks a departure from the tried and tested promotional strategies that Bollywood has followed for decades. Meanwhile, the title song of the film has been a massive hit among the audience, and it seems the makers have a lot of confidence in the music of the film to set the right tone ahead of the release. The decision could also be due to the recent romantic drama films, which followed a similar kind of emotion as Tere Ishq Mein. Tere Ishq Mein marks the reunion of Rai and Dhanush after Atrangi Re (2021). The duo first teamed up 12 years ago for Raanjhanaa (2013), which went on to become a cult classic. The upcoming film falls in the same world as Raanjhanaa. It will be released on November 28 in Hindi and Tamil. Stay tuned...

Sunny Deol's Blockbuster Line-Up: All The Upcoming Films of Gadar 2 Megastar

Mumbai, October 29 - One of the biggest stars of the 90s, Sunny Deol, broke the shackles and delivered one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema with period action drama Gadar 2 in 2023. The actor followed this mega success with director Gopichand Mallineni's Jaat earlier this year and turned out to be a decent success. The veteran star, who redefined the patriotic and action-hero image for an entire generation, hasn't looked back since Gadar 2 and now has a packed and promising lineup ahead. His upcoming projects span across genres — from emotional dramas and patriotic sagas to massive epic and actioner spectacles — marking one of the busiest phases of his career in decades. 1. Border 2 Release Date: 22 January 2026 The much-awaited sequel to the 1997 war classic Border is finally on the way. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is Sunny Deol's immediate release and will see him reprise his iconic character in a new story of bravery and sacrifice. Joining him are Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, adding youthful energy to the ensemble. The film aims to recreate the patriotic fervour of the original with modern scale and storytelling. 2. Gabru Release Date: 13 March 2026 Touted as the most emotional role yet for Sunny, Gabru is an emotional drama directed by Shashank Udapurkar. The film, described as a story of courage, conscience, and compassion, will reportedly showcase Sunny in a deeply human and emotionally charged role — something different from his usual high-octane characters. The actor unveiled the first look on his 68th birthday, promising a moving tale that connects with the heartland audience. 3. Ramayana - Part 1 Release Date: Diwali 2026 Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is a mega-scale epic saga, in which Sunny Deol plays the role of Lord Hanuman. The project, one of India's most ambitious cinematic ventures, features a massive ensemble, including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as demon king Raavan. It's a refreshing departure for Sunny, who will step into an epic world far removed from his usual patriotic dramas. 4. Lahore, 1947 Release Date - 2026 (TBA) Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Lahore, 1947 is a period drama set against the backdrop of the partition of India in 1947. It is based on Prof. Asghar Wajahat's drama – Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. The film is expected to delve into themes of sacrifice, resilience, and national pride — perfectly aligned with the kind of cinema Sunny Deol has always championed. 5. Baap Release Date - 2026 (expected) A nostalgic action ensemble, Baap pairs Sunny with other '80s–'90s action icons - Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, and Jackie Shroff, for a throwback spectacle. Directed by Vivek Singh Chauhan, Baap is expected to emphasise old-school heroics, punchy dialogues and crowd-driven moments. 6. Soorya Release Date - 2026 (expected) Soorya is said to be the adaptation of the acclaimed Malayalam film Joseph, with Sunny reportedly in the lead as a gritty, world-weary cop. This project places Sunny in a lean, procedural role — different from his traditional action fare and aimed at showcasing acting depth. 7. Ramayana - Part 2 Release Date - Diwali 2027 The second part of the epic, in which Sunny Deol has the full-length role, will be hitting worldwide cinemas in 2027. The movie will be released in multiple Indian and international languages, using a special technology. 8. Coal King Release Date - TBA Director Anil Sharma has reportedly pitched a larger-than-life action drama set against the coal mafia and its brutal underworld to Sunny Deol, who is said to have liked it. There is not much information available about the project yet, but reports say it will be the duo's next project after Gadar 2. 9. Gadar 3 Release Date - TBA Talks are ongoing for Gadar 3, reuniting Sunny with director Anil Sharma to continue the Gadar saga. The first two films captured massive patriotic fervour and emotional catharsis; a third instalment would look to extend that narrative, leaning on the franchise's scale and the audience's attachment to the central characters. 10. Jaat 2 Release Date - TBA Following the success of Jaat, the sequel is reportedly in the works, with Rajkumar Santoshi in talks to replace Malliani to direct it. With creative teams assembling and scripts being refined, Jaat 2 is positioned to continue Sunny's recent run of earthy action dramas. Sunny Deol's upcoming lineup is intentionally diverse. Gabru and Soorya push him toward performance-driven drama; Coal King, Border 2 and Gadar 3 promise mass spectacle and nationalist themes; Ramayana offers epic scale, while Jaat 2 and Baap blend nostalgia with crowd entertainment. Together, these projects map out a carefully balanced second act. Stay tuned...

Rajkumar Santoshi In Talks To Replace Gopichand Mallineni To Direct Sunny Deol's Jaat 2

Mumbai, October 29 - After the mega blockbuster success of Gadar 2, his fortune turned highly in his favour, and now, he is among the busiest actors in the industry. The mega star has multiple films in the pipeline, including the soon-to-be-released Border 2. Meanwhile, apart from Border 2, Sunny Deol also has a Jaat sequel in the works. Released earlier this year, the Gopichand Mallineni directorial became a box office success and found love among the masses. The makers confirmed Jaat 2, and, as per reports, the movie is officially in work. According to Pinkvilla, Gopichand Mallineni is unlikely to direct the sequel as he is busy with other commitments. Instead, the makers are reportedly in talks with veteran Bollywood director Rajkumar Santoshi to helm the upcoming film. As per reports, the veteran filmmaker has been paid a whopping 15 crore fees to helm to sequel. "Yes, Rajkumar Santoshi has been in talks to direct Jaat 2. The team feels he is the perfect choice because no one understands Sunny Deol's audience connect better than him. His storytelling has the right balance of emotion, action, and mass appeal, exactly what Jaat 2 needs to elevate the franchise", says the report. Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi have previously worked together in the iconic films like Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993), and Ghatak (1996), and the actor won National Awards for the first two films in the Best Actor and Supporting Actor categories. The iconic duo reunited after 27 years for Lahore 1947, which is scheduled to release next year. If all goes well, Jaat will begin in the second half of 2026. Meanwhile, Sunny Deol's immediate release is Border 2 (22 January 2026), followed by Gabru (13 March 2026), Lahore 1947 (TBA), Ramayana Part 1 (Diwali 2026), Baap (TBA), and Ramayana Part 2 (Diwali 2027). Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Crosses 3 Crore Admissions To Become Most Watched Film of 2025 In India; Tops 1 Crore Footfalls In Hindi

Bengaluru, October 28 - Amid the disappointing news of early OTT release, Risabh Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 continues to draw big crowds in theatres. In a massive milestone, it has become the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, beating the Bollywood blockbuster Chhaava. Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 has been one of its kind phenomena for Kannada cinema. The film's box office juggernaut has made it the most-watched Indian title of 2025 in theatres. In 26 days so far, the film has sold approximately 3.20 crores tickets in India across all languages, beating Chahava's 3.10+ crores admissions to become the number 1 movie of 2025. Kantara Chapter 1 is the second movie of 2025 and the ninth film in the post-pandemic era to top 3 crores (30 million) footfalls at the Indian box office. Yash-fronted KGF Chapter 2 remains the biggest blockbuster with over 5 crores admissions, and it, along with Kantara 2, is the only Kannada film of all time to reach 3 crores admissions. The prequel to 2022's blockbuster has also topped 1 crore (10 million) footfalls in the dubbed Hindi version, becoming the first South Indian film of 2025 to do so. The original Kannada version is the number 2 with around 80 lakh admissions, while Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil versions have sold over 1.30 crores tickets so far. Meanwhile, the film has grossed approximately 817 crores worldwide, including around 707 crores in India and 110 crores overseas, after 26 days. It was well on course to finish with 875+ crores worldwide, but the target now looks difficult after makers confirmed its digital release from October 31 in South Indian versions. Stay tuned...
