James Cameron's 'Titanic' And 'Avatar 2' Compete To Become Third Highest-Grossing Film Ever
Los Angeles, February 13 - James Cameron's two blockbusters are going at each other to become the 3rd highest-grossing film of all time.
The master storyteller's latest blockbuster "Avatar: The Way of Water" is continuing its winning march at the global box office another $25.8 million in its 9th weekend to take its total gross collection to $2.21 billion.
"Avatar 2" had surpassed "Titanic" to become the 3rd highest-grossing film ever but the latter reclaimed that spot upon its re-release to commemorate its 25th anniversary. The classic blockbuster by Cameron grossed a strong $22.3 million in its re-release opening weekend, pushing total global cume to $2.21 billion.
"Titanic" was just $3 million ahead of "Avatar 2" after the just concluded weekend, and at the time of penning this piece, the latter might have surpassed the former to become the new number 3 movie ever. The official numbers are awaited.
Irrespective of which movie is number 3 or 4, it's James Cameron who must be having a party. In fact, among the top 5 biggest grosser ever, James Cameron is the owner of three films that included "Avatar" at number 1 with $2.91 billion, "Avatar 2" at number 3 with $2.21 billion and "Titanic" at number 4 with $2.21 billion.
